SkyTech 3301P Programmable Fireplace Remote Control (SKY-3301P)

My old remote had gotten sticky, and I didn’t want to touch it. This one is like new, and will replace my old one. I did not set up the timer function as I didn’t need it.

Very simple set up; remote is a comfortable size for the hand and the front panel has a smooth but non-slippery feel reminiscent of a tacky grip tennis wrap. The functions are easily understandable with an initial look at the instruction manual. This remote does NOT have back lighting which is why it is a bit cheaper than the other similar Skytech model in case you were wondering what the difference was. I don't need the back lighting since I don't sit in the dark to use this remote. It has made it very simple to turn our gas fireplace on/off from our seats without bending up and down, so I am very happy. I have not yet used all the programmable functions, but particularly like the ability to set a simple timer function to automatically turn off the fireplace in 15 minute increments ie after 15/30/45 etc. minutes. This would have been a 5 star rating but for 2 reasons: 1) the writing on the function buttons are very small if your eyes are of a certain age which makes it a little bit of a challenge for me to see, and 2) the flip front panel covering up 5 of the 8 function buttons seems flimsy and I fear the rather sharp side tabs might break off with repeated snapping. it also requires some basically good finger strength and dexterity to open that panel so I would not recommend this for people with vision or hand/finger mobility issues. Be advised that this remote cannot control flame height or fan controls and it is only for turning a gas fireplace on and off with some programming capability.

I like the way this works but the programming is a little bit difficult to understand. I bought mine in April and used it for just a little while until it became too hot to be using the fireplace. This winter we have been using it much more but then I noticed that when I set the time I set it to daylights savings time so now it is one hour ahead in the winter and apparently if I want to reset the time I have to reset the transmitter and reprogram everything from scratch. I'm unwilling to do that because it is too much work. It has several modes but I like using the program mode so that if I do forget to turn the fireplace off the program will turn it off at 9pm (8pm DST).After nine months the batteries in the receiver died and had to be replaced. This is one more reason I am glad I didn't get a 2nd one for downstairs.I used an Ecobee 3 Lite thermostat on the downstairs fireplace. I like that solution much better because it gives me a record of just how much the fireplace has been on. If this fireplace remote control ever stops working I will replace it with an Ecobee 3 Lite thermostat too.

Had to read through instructions a few times to insure I new what I was doing for the install and programming, but then things went quickly. After adjusting temperature range to 1°F +- the stove would, when thermostat was set at 68°F, start at 67° and begin the shutdown sequence at 69°F. Solar this season I am very happy with this remote thermostat.

I confess I had a gas fireplace technician install this, but spoke with the manufacturer on the phone and found this company amazing. So grateful for this supplier who had in stock this older but correct model for our gas fireplace. Could not be more pleased with timely arrival and perfect as described item.

Works good when it keeps working!

This is a great quality and easy to use remote. Our first one we purchased 15 years ago and just now had to replace it because the buttons wore out. Will definitely purchase again if needed

This is my third fireplace controller in 12 years and definitely works the best. With the previous models (sorry, I don't remember model names, but they weren't Skytech) I never felt comfortable leaving the fireplace in program mode because periodically I'd see that the controller said "off" and the fireplace was still going and room temp was way high. This controller, so far, has been completely reliable.The design is well thought out; there are only three buttons available (mode, up, down) when the flap is closed, so casual users don't have much chance to accidentally reconfigure the controller. We run the fireplace in program mode all the time. Want more heat temporarily? push the up button. At the next program period the unit reverts back to the regular program. No worries that the house will be inadvertently kept on high heat all night.My biggest complaints, not very big deals, are that the date and time are not displayed, and when switching between standard and daylight time it appears that it will be necessary to poke a small button with a paperclip in order to adjust the time.
