Great changes & very impressed!
The antenna has great reception & transmit capabilities. I am receiving towns twice as far as my Baofeng UV-5R+ & BF-F8+ model radios. The sound quality is very clear & louder then my past two radios. The key board lights up super bright for viewing in both day & night.I also like how they relocated the V/M,A/B & Menu buttons to the lower keypad.I had a problem always bumping these buttons with the past radios I owned against a table top or in my car while I wore it on my hip.The flashlight is larger & looks brighter then the UV-5R & the BF-F8 models. I always use my laptop to program my Baofeng & Wouxuns radios. I found the new version of the UV-6R software at : http://www.radioddity.com/us/downloads. Once on this site stroll down to the bottom of the page and click on UV-6R programming software. Once completed, I was able to program 127 channels with no problem.I also like how the new battery slides into the back of the radio & locks in from underneath. I have dropped a few radios in the past & broke the upper battery clip. In turn, I had to purchase another battery. Also it's great to have the tri-color screen back. I didn't care for the inverted screen on the BF-F8 models. Conclusion: overall I am very impressed with this radio. Better receiving, transmitting, quality sound & less background noise. I will be purchasing a second radio soon.

Great radio at a great price
I chose this radio because I needed a scanner in the mid 400MHz range. I read many positive reviews (the only negative reviews are from people who have had problems programming them), so I decided to give it a try.I know from other devices that I program that it is never fun to program from a keypad, so I ordered the programming cable. Programming is a snap using CRISP. It is easier to program than it is to learn to use the radio (such as the "Scan" button needs to be held down for a couple seconds before going into the scan mode). The instructions that come with the radio does not do a good job of explaining how to use the it, but between CRISP, the manual, and playing with it, I was able to get a very good grasp on how to use it, and am very satisfied with my purchase. If you're the type of person who wants everything to work out of the box, or do not have a little bit of patience to learn something new, this might not be the best choice for you. For me, it wasn't much of a challenge.

UV6R
I ordered the updated Baofeng/Pofung UV-6R radio, and it came in today. $30 on Amazon. It's a sharp looking radio, way better looking than the 5 series. I like the round PTT (and I love the color orange, but you may think it's a bit much). Anyway, initial thoughts:1. Looks good. Feels good.2. Battery is quite snug. I had difficulty getting them on and off (BTW did I mention I bought 7 of these?).3. Backlit keys. :thumbs up::4. No matter what the website says, what the experts tell you, or what the program itself says, CHIRP won't talk to this thing. Yes, the 6R is listed on the drop-down of supported radios. You have to use the "official" software, and since it doesn't interface with repeaterbook.com, or support pasting from chirp, I had to enter the frequencies by hand. By. Hand. Not a fan of that, but still beats programming 7 radios via keypad. I'd have sent them back.5. They seem a bit sensitive to RFI/EMI. My laptop never caused problems with any of the 5 series or UV-82 radios, but when I test-keyed local repeaters to check out the radios, I could hear "electronics" heterodyne mixing with the repeater signal. Moving it a couple of feet away from the computer reduced it greatly, but still...6. They do work. I was able to key every repeater from my house that I can with my Icom. And the antenna is about an inch longer than the one that ships with the 5 series.Jury's still out on this one. Certainly, it's worth thirty bucks. But is it better than the 5 series? If so, not by much. IMHO the '82 is still the winner in the Baofeng/Pofung family. Even with it's funky dual-PTT button. And they're 30 bucks at Amazon, too.

Very Great dual band radio...and price is cheap..
This radio is great..nicely build...cheap price..sound of speaker is loud and clear..if you talk it removes the background noise only you voice will be heard clearly..LCD changeable color is nice..the flashligth is useful too...one little problem for me at first on how to set up the channels but i figure it out after a few days of use and research on the internet how to use it...but be careful not to drop the unit mine got drop then the battery lock pin broke...they need to change the lock of the battery to screw type so it will be secure and not broke even if drops...im still thinking to upgrade on there 8watt radio if they lower the price...

Good quality..
Good quality little dual band. I got it just to listen to calls when I hear sirens and what not, and its the perfect little addition to my home. Definitely worth the price. I did have to YouTube a simple way to program it, cuz I get confused easily LOL. But it works fantastically.

Great radio.
Great radio...questionable battery. I have 10 of these and most of them are fine but the recent ones purchased just 2 months ago have failing batteries. The batteries will not charge. I am unable to find replacement batteries. Don't buy this model. Get the UV-5R so you can get the batteries.

I doesn't get better. Yes
Talk about bang for the buck. I doesn't get better.Yes, it doesn't quite have the watts they claim, but when you're depending on repeaters you can get away with skimping a little. If it doesn't work for you in that capacity, for the money, you can use it as a walkie-talkie or just dump it in the trash.Ron DiGiovanniKC3BKJ
