Great Start and Super Finish, as Edited
January 15, 2016 EDIT I originally gave this 5 stars and IF it had remained the same today as on day one, I would not be wasting your time now. The fabric, while not real leather, is still almost perfect. My problem is probably of my own doings. The center post will not keep the seat where I adjust it to. I raise the lever and raise the seat for my needs and in a few minutes it goes back down to the bottom. It has been sitting in the garage for several years now and still works as it did when I originally received it in 2010. I use it to wait for the postman or take a break, but its unwillingness to adjust vertically, makes it unacceptable for me. I bought another Boss chair about 2 or 3 years ago and it does not slip, but the screws that hold the seat in place are almost gone and it is a safety hazard waiting to happen. Before I consider the chair itself please permit a few words about customer service and packing. Packing: The chair arrived in a heavy duty box that had several gorillas handling it along the way. In spite of their rough handling as evidenced by the interior cardboard damages the chair was fully protected by its wrapping and therefore no issues. How nice it is to open a box and find a fully perfect product. Customer Service: We often encounter a customer service rep who has had a bad day or just does not care or any of the negative phrases that make us some reps. This is absolutely NOT the case with the folks at BOSS. After opening the box and putting it together (a feat accomplished by anyone who can lift a sack of potatoes) I could not get the gas cylinder to raise the seat level. One of us is 5'6" and the other is 6'3" and the seat is either too high or too low unless the gas cylinder works. It did not. It was too late to call and it was Thanksgiving eve. Even if anyone had been home I would have waited until Frantic Friday to call. So I emailed my concern and expected no reply until today or maybe tomorrow. On Friday, the 26th, the height adjustment absence was just too much to endure. A call was placed to BOSS and a woman told me exactly what to do and I did. Closed case. Wow! I did suggest that the instructions would benefit from her advice in future iterations. Regardless, my problem was settled in seconds and when I finally got to reviewing my email I saw a response from BOSS saying the same thing. Let's all give a big shout to BOSS for fantastic service. The Chair itself: I was not prepared for the comfort and wow appeal of this chair. After spending many hours in the old desk chair and literally wearing it out in one of the weak points of the mechanism I had to buy a new one and chose the perfect chair for our use. The soft arm rests make getting up and down easier than the old one with hard rests. The seat is firm enough to hold a chuncky old man and a much lighter youngun spouse. The lumbar support fits the small of the back perfectly and adds sufficient support to make long sits easier. The seat goes up and down with ease and makes designing the perfect height easy to do. The testing of duration will take place over what will, with hope, take years in the same manner as the old one. It would delight me to revisit this chair 10 years from now explaining that the seat finally gave way or the mechanism just gave out from all the weight or whatever. By then chairs will be an anachronism of the first order because it's been rumored that we will be sitting on air. Right! I am so glad we bought this chair and would do it again in a nanosecond. Thanks BOSS!

CHEAP!!! Piston already giving out!!!
This chair was packed sufficiently, arrived quickly, and was easy to assemble (5mins, no tools). The chair is comfortable, but I'll have to either turn my A/C colder or wear a shirt (I work at home) because this material either makes me sweat a lot more, or it just shows up more. It smells a little bit (the chair materials, not my sweat), but nothing dramatic like I read in the reviews. You will not mistake this material for leather of any type. It's more like a strong vinyl and seems more porous, but looks and feels nice. The arms are comfortable for my height but not adjustable. The main "con" is the height. It really does feel like it should be able to lower another inch or two, as even at 5'9" it feels a little bit like my legs are dangling. It's still comfy, but I will have to update after use to comment on the height again. This chair swivels, rocks, and the back reclines(along with the base/seat). It goes plenty high enough via pneumatic piston. Wheels roll nicely on Armstrong tile. Chair, overall, is not heavy like a similar chair may have been years ago (a plus for those with a bad back if you have to move it to another room from time to time), however, it is attractive, comfortable and seems well-built and durable to me. The price is right for those with slightly longer legs! Update: after less that 1 year of use, this chair's piston is giving out. It rises on it's own, and I have to lower the chair every time I sit in it. It even rises slowly while I am in it, causing me to have to constantly lower it again. CHEAP CRAP!!!

Great chair for the price
I have started working from home more frequently this year (2-3 days per week) so needed to upgrade the chair for my home office. Researched quite a few chairs on Amazon before deciding on this one I ordered it on Sunday afternoon and it was delivered today (Tuesday) so could not be happier with the delivery time. ($149 on Amazon) The chair was packaged excellently with lots of protection both on the chair and in the box to cushion it during transit. It was simple to put together. It took me less than 10 minutes from cutting open the box to being finished. I am 6'3' tall and weigh 220 and the seat and back of the chair are very comfortable. It has great lumbar support and the arms are the perfect height for me. As others have noted, it does sit fairly high. As mentioned, I am 6'3" and at its highest setting my feet barely touch the floor. Although at lower setting it is very comfortable. So if you are shorter, you may want to stay away from this chair. My 5'6" wife sat in it and could not touch the floor comfortably. The fabric is good quality for the price and cushioning is great. I will update my review in a few months to report of how the fabric is wearing. The construction (base/arm rests) does seem a little lighter weight but the chair feels very solid underneath me so time will tell. The rollers are certainly cheaper and even though it currently sits on a carpet I would have expected a smoother roll. Overall I am very pleased with purchase. Now comes the wear and tear challenge over the next few months.

Great Lumbar Support. Size Info.
I've had this chair for about 2 weeks now and though it has areas I'd like to change, I still prefer it over others I've tried. Anyway, I'll start by listing the chair's size info, including height. At its highest settting, measured from the top of the seat cushion down to the floor, the chair is at 23.5" At its lowest setting, from the top of the seat cushion to the floor, is 19.5". The width of the seat itself is 21", same goes for the back rest. The length of the seat, from the edge to where it meets the back rest, is 19.65" The length of the backrest, from the seat up, is 26.5". I didn't measure the actual chair height from the floor to the top of the backrest, but the math should be easy enough to do. I'm 5'9" and my feet will dangle when the chair is at its max height. Quality: Nothing out of the ordinary, but of very good quality, not "premium", but good enough for the price. The cushion, both seat and backrest have a decent amount of comfort; it feels a bit too firm, but I think it might need a break-in period, so I'll update when I feel it has reached its max. The chair is a combination of standard quality leather, nothing premium as with more expensive chairs, plastic and metal. The arm rest frame is made of what seems to be hard plastic, the base is metal; the casters are plastic. At first, I thought the chair's seat was too short, but as it turns out, its lenght is the same as my previous chair, so I soon realized that this chair, with its lower back support, keeps my back straight and not sunk into the backrest as with my previous chair, which led me to believe it had a longer seat. Comfort: If you've never had a lumbar support type of chair (I never did), this will feel odd at first. The chair will help you keep a better posture, by giving your lower back more support, which again, will feel a bit off at first, but you will soon get used to it. I like it, because I now feel my back is at a better angle/position than my previous chair and I can sit in front of my desk for longer periods of time without having to stand up and stretch. Mechanics: The chair tilts back, swivels and of course has height adjustments. The height and tilt are done with the same type of lever we've all come to know for years, which locks the backrest when pushed in and releases it to tilt when pulled out. The height is done with up/down motions on the lever. The casters swivel 360degrees and feel solid, so I can't really see them breaking, so no worries there. For Gamers: This chair has proven to be the perfect PC gaming chair, at least for me; I have a glass desk with a retractable keyboard holder and my mouse is on the desk's top side, so with my old chair, my left hand was perfectly leveled with the keyboard, but my right hand (mouse) was at an angle, reaching up; but this chair, with its extra high setting, is the perfect solution, I now have the perfect height to play comofortably for hours, since my mouse hand is now higher and my keyboard hand is slightly dropping onto the keyboard. In conclusion: At this price, I couldn't ask for more. The leather is not exactly "premium", but it is of very good quality and serves its purpose; the chair's height settings can acomodate different styles and desks, which is very hard to find nowadays with other chairs. The overall quality is better than I expected. Hope this helps.

Durability will not last. Is not real Leather!
January 8, 2011 I received my chair today, assembled it and tested it out. My immediate comments are the following: 1. Cosmetics: Very nice looking chair. Does look like a chair costing more. 2. The leather Plus is just that, a cross between leather and vinyl, although it does look like Nappa leather, but the feel is not quite the same. 3. Function: This chair DOES Recline. Past reviews said it did not. Those people need to pull out the lever that operates the height (air cylinder). This will unlock and the chair can recline about 25 degrees or so. Adequate for most people and standard for most chairs. 4. Comfort: The chair is very comfortable with adequate padding in the seat and the back. Also has lumbar support which I like. I could sit in this chair for hours. As a professor I work from home quite a bit, so we will see how the back feels. 5. Chair Height: many reviewers mention the chair height as an issue for certain height people. This chair does sit high. I have it on the lowest setting to sit at my desk which is standard height. ON the highest setting I can not use it, it is too high for my legs to fit under the desk. I am 6 feet and the lowest setting is fine for me, but if you are under 5' 6" it may be a problem. 6. Quality- Remains to be seen. But since it does not look cheap, and all plastic parts are made from a hard structural plastic, I guess the durability of the chair will last as long as my last one, 12 years, maybe. I'll update this in a few months. Bottom Line: Go for it! Good chair for the money. However, if you are shorter than 5' 6" this chair may not be for you. UPDATE: 6/10/2011 I now have had this chair for about six months. It is as good as it was when I bought it. I use it everyday and it is a pleasure to sit in it. The only thing it does do, however, is squeak! Just a little WD40 solves the problem. Update: August 7, 2013 Well I have used this chair almost daily and the ribbing around the seat sides has broken through the material and a plastic tube now sticks out poking my legs. Because the material is a synthetic type leather the wear and durability is not up to par on a real leather chair. My last desk chair, made of real leather, lasted me over 10 years. So in 2.5 years the material of this chair is wearing through especially areas of daily contact and rubbing/friction causing the chair's leather to break away in "particles" over time especially on high wear areas. Definitely, over all, the mechanical aspects of the chair are still functional and have had no problem thus far. But material durability is in question. Because of this wear issue of the material I took away 1 star. Update: February 2016: After 5 years of almost daily use the so called "leather" is peeling from the arm rests. Folks this is not leather. Look at the photo, the material is some type of polymer and it will break down after regular use.

Perfect Home Office Chair
I just received this chair and it is near perfect! It literally took me 5 minutes to unpack and setup. Almost too easy. The first thing I notice is that it looks very well put together. A chair like this would run over $300 in most other retail stores just based on its looks. I work from my home office and I needed a chair that will hold up to about 10 hours of use on average per day. My frame is 6'0 and 235, so most chairs I have seen will not hold me based on the typical 225 and max 8 hours per day. This chair seems very capable! :) The three mains issues that most reviewers had concerns about: 1) The chair was packaged well and was nearly flawless. Most issues of damage are likely the fault of UPS or whomever Amazon chooses. I have Prime, so mine was sent 2-day by UPS. Box was dented a bit, but chair was fine. 2) The height of this chair will not be acceptable for some people. I am 6 foot 0 inches, and my feet sit flat with some slack at the lowest setting. I don't have long legs, but if you are under 5'8" this may be a problem. The highest setting is ridiculous as I can bearly put my feet on the ground. And forget about sitting under a typical desk. I noticed that the wheel base slants upward from the wheels, and that is most likely causing an issue with the height. 3) The recline feature does exist like most others at this price level. You need to pull out the up/down mechanism to unlock it. The lever pushed in will keep the chair from reclining. It reclines at a very reasonable level (even more than I need). In conclusion, this is a very comfortable chair to use most of the day. The padding is much better on my back then my last chair that I had for 15 years. The seat is also not very deep, which is a plus in my eyes. Most chairs seem to make you scoot up so there is no back support, or sit way back that it cuts of leg circulation. I very highly recommend this chair for the price! Amazon is the greatest! :)

6 days from the 2 year anniversary. Going strong. Only one minor complaint.
Being as I have owned this for a long time, I figured it would be a good time to write a review. I use it roughly 7-12 hours every day. I need to oil it every now and then, as it gets really-really annoying when it needs oil. Just a few shots of vegetable oil, non-stick spray, or WD-40(a waste of money, as the previous work just as well), and maintenance is taken care of for 2-3 months. The chair is very durable, no sign of deterioration in the structure. There is a little wearing on one of the arm rests, but it is very minor. I have transported it between locations, a total of 6 times in/out of the car. It is BARELY able to fit in a 2003 corolla, and easily in a 2001, if you remove the passenger seat, so transportation is not "easy" but even in the smallest of cars, it is possible. My only real complaint is that the lean-back feature is not very far back, so I had to purchase a separate chair for movie watching - which broke after three weeks... I understand that because it is mainly an office chair, a significant tilt is not easily achieved due to its center of gravity, but, like I said, its a minor complaint. All in all, an excellent product, very durable, and I would buy it again any day (but I dont expect the need for another 3-5 years, as this chair is of very high quality.) __________________________ Update as of 3 and a half years owning this chair: Still functions just as the day I bought it. A little more wear on the armrests though. I continue to use it about the same (7-12 hours a day). The combination of my carpet, and wheel design mean even a small USB cord will stop this chair from rolling - but that's mainly my fault for leaving cords around... I still love this chair, it is very comfortable and durable. Still expect years from this chair. I have bought many lower quality products in my time, tools, battery chargers, a desk, keyboards, etc. And I have realized, that it truly is better to spend a little bit more on a quality product because you will save more in terms of replacement. And I do believe this product falls solidly into that higher quality tier. I will say that it could be better if it was true leather, but this is just fine. I cannot say enough about the durability though. I have bought 8 laptops in the past 4 years, but 2 chairs, and the only one remaining is this one, the older one.

0 out of 10. Would not recommend. Worst office chair I've ever had.
I bought this to replace the office chair my dad bought me when I started my business 19 years ago. That chair wasn't bad, was still in pretty good shape, but just a tiny bit ratty with it's age, and I just wanted to freshen things up. So.. I bought this chair, which was beautiful and comfortable for about 8 months, and then I started having to baby it, which was especially frustrating, because to be honest I hadn't even been using it that much! The hydraulic raise and lower started to go, and I'd randomly feel it start to lower little bits at a time. It almost felt like every few seconds, a toddler was kicking the back of my chair, and with each kick, the chair would drop 1/4 inch. Then the feet covers popped off one at a time, and I've had to glue each of them back on now. After I glued them back on they have been fine, but that just goes to show the initial manufacturing is very sub par. Then there's the "leather" which is honestly the worst, even though it's largely cosmetic. After just a couple months of regular sitting, it started peeling around the area your legs touch. The chair is a complete embarassment now, as the "leather" is completely peeling and ratty after what is effectively just over 1 year of light use. I can't allow any clients to see it because it is a horrible reflection of my otherwise meticulous business. One other random thing I noticed is it retains and amplifies body heat unlike any chair I've ever had. It sometimes feels like it has a build in seat heater like in a car. I've never noticed that in any executive style office chair before! 0 out of 10. Would not recommend.
