I just received this pump today, but I can already tell it was worth the upgrade. It is much more powerful than the standard pump that comes with the pool. The water flow is noticeably stronger, and my waterfall feature looks better than it ever did with the original pump. The biggest reason I decided to buy this was reliability. The original pump that came with my pool eventually quit working, so I replaced it with the exact same model. Unfortunately, that one also failed. After buying the same pump twice, I decided it was time to stop wasting money and invest in something better. So far, I’m extremely impressed. Setup was straightforward, it’s running quietly, and the circulation is excellent. The difference in performance is obvious from the moment you turn it on. Pro tip: If you’re upgrading from the stock pump that comes with the pool, don’t forget to order the hose adapters. You can keep your existing hoses, but you’ll need an adapter for one of the connections. Having it on hand will save you a trip to the hardware store and make installation much easier. If this pump holds up over time, it will easily be one of the best purchases I’ve made for my pool. Based on my first impression, I’d absolutely recommend it to anyone who’s tired of replacing the stock pump that comes with these pools.

I was able to get this pump on Amazon for $85 when the price had dropped. I upgraded this to my existing 15' X 48" intex Pool. I had to cut out the existing 1-1/4" holes CAREFULLY to 1-1/2" holes to attach the enlarged drainer and output valves. The system comes with 2 1-1/2" hoses and 2 PLUNGERS! For extra precaution, I dropped the water level to under both holes in the liner and used waterproof silicone when attaching the new fittings to the cut holes and have had no problems at all. After a couple of days to allow the silicone to set, I filled up the pool and no leaks. PERFECT! The plungers are awesome in that I don't get wet anymore when cleaning the filter. Being included is an AWESOME bonus. I upgraded from a 1000 GPH pump that burned out the second week I had it. The extra flow of water has kept my pool crystal clear. It really moves the water and produces a strong current. Up to now, I have no complaints and it is an EXCELLENT upgrade. A+ INTEX! UPDATE: (DETAILED EXPLANATION ON CUTTING THE LINER ON AN INTEX POOL FOR UPGRADE) Because I've been asked a few times, I went ahead and wrote a step by step on how to cut the liner on a smaller Intex pool to attach the valves and hoses when upgrading to the 2500 GPH pump. So for whoever needs more detail on how I installed the valves, heres a more detailed explanation: The first thing you have to do is drop the water level about a foot under the lower second hole in the liner. The 2500 gph pump set includes the strainer head, the water output head, two valve sets, two plungers, two rubber gaskets for the valves, two hoses, gasket rings for the hoses, filter, and the pump. To cut the liner, CAREFULLY cut a larger hole around the existing black tubed holes. Use the new valve diameter (1 1/2") as a guide when cutting. Be sure to not cut the hole too large or too small. If it is too small, youll probably see that the liner stretches too tightly around the threads of the new valve set. Make sure that the liner DOES NOT cover any part of the threads. The first time I did it, the liner was too tight on the threads of the new valve set and even after screwing it on with the gasket tightly, the lifted liner on the threads created a gap enough for water to spill out. After re-dropping the water level, I cut the liner slightly larger so that it layed flat on the surface that it makes contact with on the valve, not touching the threads. I purchased high quality waterproof clear silicone as an extra precaution and added a line of it to the INNER part of the valve (which goes inside the pool), then I put the gasket on that inner part, then I put another line of silicone on the rubber gasket, then I stuck the threaded end through the liner, and then added another line of silicone to the ring that spins on to tighten both ends of the valve together tightly with the liner pressed in between. It may be overkill but I'd rather be safe than sorry. To recap, from the inside of the pool out, its the inner valve piece, silicone, the rubber gasket, silicone, sticking the threaded part through the liner, silicone, then the tightening ring. Do these steps twice for both valves on the pool liner (the input and output). Let the silicone cure for at least three days before proceeding to the next step. Trust me you want to wait even though it seems like forever. The first time I did it the silicone wasnt fully cured and it fell apart when I filled the pool back up and water had contact with it. After those three days, then screw on the plungers to the valves, attach the hoses to the plungers then attach them to the pump. There are rubber gasket rings for the hoses that have to be placed right, so just be weary of that minor detail. Fill the pool up and hit the switch on the pump. I wish I had a guide the first time I did it lol.

The 1000 gpm pump that came with my pool couldn't do it's job well at all in its second summer of use. I was shocking it every four days, the water was cloudy. I couldn't see the bottom....now...wow! Lol! Yup! I can see my feets clearly! I can see all the little blue squares and when I play empty can fetch with the dog and it falls to the bottom, it no longer gets lost. It's been a week and a half since we installed it and it hasn't needed shock. Only thing to beware of is if you let the dog cool off in the pool all day while you are at work, you'll find your water pressure go down after a week only to discover that if you unscrew the hose directly in front of the pump motor area, you'll find fur clogging the mesh screen area. The pump runs full speed again once you get that out. So maybe put a dollar store nylon stocking on your skimmer basket to cut down on that. I put it around the bottom and up around the sides since the basket is raised in the center. We bought the twin pack of 1 1/4 to 1 1/2 intex type B adapters. We bought nothing else, because like you might be doing, I researched and I thought that might be all I needed. Turns out I needed at least one "fernco ptc-150 1 1/2 to 1 1/4 inch pipe connecter (coupler). Home depot had some in stock nearby but I saved the hour trip to and from and just ordered it off amazon. The intex adapters were the exact same size as the fittings on our summer waves so they would not slip right over the summer waves pipes. It cost an extra $1.30 but fine with me. In the mean time we used the shiny new intex water return jet that came in the box with our new pump and hoses. Cutting tiny slivers at a time. Not too much or we'd be buying another pool if we made the hole too large and ruined the liner. While we waited for our fernco coupler (pink package with short gray pipe silver tightening bands on either side) we used the 1 1/4 summer waves hose that came with and ran from the filter canister to the old return jet to hook up our new pump temporarily. We used one of the intex type B adapters, screwed it onto the new intex hose and to the new pump. We fastened the old summer waves hose to the filter canister on the side of the pool and found a silver hose tightening band in the garage and used it to fasten the summer waves hose down around the small end of the type B adapter (the second type B adapter is just a spare since we retro fitted the new intex return to our pool. It was a jerry rigged fit and worked perfectly fine for the few days we waited for our hose coupler to come. The plastic pipe was cinched on pretty good and I'm sure it wouldn't have lasted for ever but we got it tightened enough not to leak. Our coupler came and the summer waves hose came off and into the spare parts box. We installed the coupler onto the filter canister, put the small end of the type B through the coupler, tightened it and screwed the new 1 1/2 intex hose onto the big end of my intex adapter. I did my best to help you plan your moves if you got the same pool I have. Sorry if my writings get confusing. I did my best. That's my story and I'm sticking to it! Lol! I purchased this used and it works amazing with my pool. There were some pieces that were missing but I was able to connect the parts I already had with my old pump. Works smooth and so quiet. I am very satisfied with this product.

These pumps suck! I mean they're weak and are incapable of doing their intend job. Not just this pump. I mean this pump and all similar pumps. They are almost fine for filtering the water although they are kind of weak in that regard, but they are virtually useless when it comes to vacuuming the pool. There is poor suction causing most of the debris you're trying to vacuum up to just be stirred around in the pool instead and you'll still end up cleaning the cartridge filter three or four times or more during the vacuuming process. I finally just started taking letting the water pump out onto the ground watering the grass while I was vacuuming (filling the pool with the hose at the same time) in order to avoid constantly cleaning the cartridge. That said, this pump/filter works great! Despite the fact that you aren't supposed to, I use an in ground pump to run my pool and it works great. Hooked up to a sand filter vacuuming is not an issue. However, I don't vacuum anymore. While the in ground pump filters the water in my fifteen foot above ground pool, I use this pump to run a cleaning tractor on the bottom of the pool. For that purpose it works wonderfully. I only clean the cartridge when the tractor is struggling or stops as that means the cartridge is too dirty for good water flow. So for filtering and vacuuming your pool this pump and all others like it are a waste of money. (Buy an in ground pool pump. They say they're not for above ground pools, but it works great.) But, because I like to think outside the box and it works so well running that tractor I gave it four stars.

This brand, style pump came with my original 26-foot round Intex Pool I purchased from Walmart. after 10 years my BF hit my pool with the weed eater and ruined it. I couldn't find the same pool so I bought the Coleman Oval 26 X 18 pool. I have hated it from day one. The sides don't stand up like they are supposed to no matter what we tried. It came with a Smart Pump that was defective from the box, and they never honored my request for a new one, but I had purchased the warranty from Wal-Mart, so they did. In the meantime, I had hooked this pump up to it, my old one. It ran for a long time, until it developed a crack in the housing. So I bought another Sand Pool Pump, it was as useless as well as the Smart Pump. We went on vacation for 2 weeks, the power went out and the pump went off, and did not come back on when the power did. We came home to a green pool! It didn't keep the pool clean at all, even though I had a vacuum going too!, and no timer so you had to keep going out to turn it on and off. This pump wasn't available to ship to CA last year which is ridiculous, since it comes with pools, so I kept watching and waiting! Bingo!! I got it this year!! It's so easy to set up, runs on a timer, and the filters are easy to find. Although you can wash and reuse them several times if you wash them regularly. this winter I found them on Sale, 2 for $4.00...Steal....I stocked up! I am so excited to get this pump hooked up to the pool as I know it will keep it clean! I may purchase another just to keep around, although the last one lasted over 10 years!! You won't go wrong with this purchase, it's over half the cost less than what the others were that I had to purchase, that didn't work either. I am one happy camper (pool owner) again!! Now just to find another 26ft. round pool, so much more room in the pool, not the yard, but I will sacrifice that to have the space in the pool!! Get this Pump, you will love the ease of keeping up with it, change the filter, set the timer and go!! The paperwork was all crumpled up in the box and one page torn all to pieces, couldn't read it but since I had one before I knew how to set it up. Enjoy your new pump!!

Working great

3 month update. The timer died on mine it still works when kept on manual but read the problems and you start to wonder. here is my original 5 star review I will update after I hear back from Intex Like everyone else my Intex 18x46" pool came with the standard 1500gph pump/filter. The 1500gph did an OK job, the filters were pretty easy to find at Walmart or Menards but the positives never really made up for the negatives. My original unit was noisy even from when it was new. The filters seemed to get dirty very quickly and it put out a fair amount of water but nowhere near the amount that the new pump pushes out. I was surprised when I opened the box that the filter on this unit us HUGE! Should do a much better job than the puny A filters that the standards pumps use. I was also pleasantly surprised that the pump came with not only a filter but with brand new bulkheads, plungers and even 2 new hoses! I won't use the parts until next spring as I don't want to have to drain water from the pool to install the new parts. I did have 1 negative to this unit. When connected to my OEM surface skimmer the pump is so strong that it collapsed the skimmers hose causing very little water to flow into the filter. Not sure if that's not because the skimmer (and pool) are on their 5th season. Lastly if you haven't switched to an Intex saltwater chlorinator you REALLY need to get one. We bought one this May before setting up the pool and it simplifies everything. 6 bags of pool salt at Walmart for $5 each 3 containers of PH down and that's all you need for the whole summer! -------Follow - up I was rinsing and reusing the original filter and that worked great for almost a month. Started to notice water pressure drop dramatically. turns out that the filter was collapsing internally and clogging it up somehow. Might be because I was washing it with hot water? Not sure but I just ordered a 6pk of new filters and will experiment just hosing them off with the garden hose. We get alot of stuff in our pool bugs, grass, leaves etc.. so rinsing the filter every 2 days is a must. _______________Update 2_________________________ Have 1 more complaint about the unit. with my 1500gph pump I ran it off a timer. That way i could have it run for 2 hours and then shut off for 6 and so on.. This unit has a built in GFCI plug on it and unfortunately when the timer cuts power to the pump it trips the GFCI. This causes the pump to shut off and when power is restored you have go out and reset the GFCI. End result? well we are experiencing a ton of crud at the bottom of the pool something that happens because the pump isn't running and circulating the water 24/7. Before with the smaller pump this didn't really happen because of he fact that I had it setup to cycle on and off and crud never got the opportunity to just sink to the bottom. Definitely don't want to run this all day long so I'm thinking about cutting the GFCI and putting in a regular plug on it? After all my outlet is GFCI protected. if you have any thoughts leave me a comment. 30 day update I've been having trouble with water pressure lately. It got to the point where I logged into Amazon to exchange it but I was just outside the 30 day exchange window. The pump would start out fine but by the end of a 4 hour cycle the motor would be running but no water was being pumped. I first thought that it was because the filter was collapsing, possibly blocking the inlet or outlet but after alot of time playing with it that did not seem to be it. I was getting so much internal pressure that trying to remove the filter was ridiculously hard even after opening the top air valve the thing was just sucked in there. So I kept playing with it, went back and actually read the manual and checked that there was no blockages in the on and out tubes. Tried running the pump without the out hose and water would flow but the flow rate barely changed when you turned the pump on or off. I was about to give up when I noticed that when I flexed the inlet hose it made a sound and realized that it must have a pinhole in it that was letting air in. Well that was it, replaced the inlet hose and everything seems to be back to full pressure. Hopefully that is the end of the drama I'm tired of playing with this thing! ___________________end of summer update_________________________________ So i continued to have problems with the unit. Just wouldn't keep pressure going after a day or so. I called Intex and was within the 90 day warranty of these things so they replaced the unit for me. Did not get a chance to try out the new one but will do that this year. Lesson to be learned here is IF you have a problem with an Intex pump CALL them before you 90 warranty is over!

Unfortanatly had to return item wqs faulty

This pump is way more powerful than the pump that comes with the Intex/Coleman steel frame pool. It's pretty fantastic. Where the original pump sends a little stream of water in, this thing sends torrent of water and bubbles. A little finicky with getting it going, as it's quite sensitive about air bubbles, but once you get those cleared out, it works like a charm. Nice that it has a built in timer too, so I don't have to use a timer, if I don't want to. Also nice that I don't have to use the built in timer if I don't want to, lol. I've only used it for half of one season, so can't speak to longevity just yet, but hopefully it'll keep on ticking for summer's to come.

I have a Bestway Steel Frame Pool 15 ft that is on it's third summer. I got creative with a few PVC pipe adapters to get this Intex pump connected to the Bestway tubes. After one week of use, the water is noticable clearer. I find I am using the skimmer much less than before. The water is incredibly clear. The timer is a great feature, and based on the size of my pool, the pump manual says it only needs to run for 4 hours a day (8 if there is a lot of swimming) which is also using less hydro than the old pump, which we ran all the time. My only regret is not upgrading to this pump when we first got the pool. The timer could be better, as you only get the option to pick 2, 4, 6, 8 or 12 hours, but you have to start the timer at the time you'd like it to remember for each day. So if you want it to run before 10am, then you'd need to physically go and push the button and start the daily timer at 6am. Overall, highly recommend and very happy.

Bought this over the sand filter counterpart for a 12ft 40in deep pool. Sand filter systems require large amounts of water to back flush the filter media. With plunger valves installed filters swap out in seconds. Great pressure and the pool stays way cleaner now while only running for 2 hours a day or less. Wish I bought this sooner.
