Audio-Technica AT8024 Stereo/Mono Camera-Mount Condenser Microphone, Black

Let me preface this review with the fact that I am mostly a still photographer and don't shoot much video. However, the times I needed to shoot a short video, this mic came through like a trooper. Shot videos of a candidate for congress and the audio was fantastic. Very clear, no distortion. Great directional mic. The product also came with a wind sock which also functioned quite well.I had no problems mounting and connecting this to my nikon D750I recommend shooting a short test before the main event to make sure you have all your settings correct.

I use this mic to film bands in Seattle. The mic is pretty good for live sound, especially for the price. The one star gone is because the sound can still be quite muddy out of the box and doesn't fully capture the live sound, although that's a big ask. Here is a video taken with the mic of a live band. I use my camera for putting actors on tape for auditions. The sound is hugely important. I've tried several microphones and this is the first one that gets first rate quality in recording.

After two years of shelf life and occasional trips packed with the rest of accessories the mic started showing some funny behaviour, such as warm-up on certain combinations of sensivity, reception angle and mono/stereo modes, the main mono-stereo-off switch became loose. Another annoying thing is that the combination of the 'warm-up' and loose switch means that the mic could lose ability to record due to light tap which disconnects the switch for a split second and then some cap discharges enough to disrupt the entire schematic and to turn off power light. The mechanical quality is way better than the quality of the schematic, so the review has three stars instead of one. Quick googling revealed same problem as I'm complaining to, which means that the Audio-Technica completely missed the electronics QC on this device.

I'm giving this mic a 5 star rating just for the fact it outperforms my expectations. Nicely done Audio-Technica! With a mono or stereo selection, this mic is invaluable for the hobbiest or on-the-go shooter. I would not recommend this mic for professional productions, but it's definitely on par with the Rode Pro. And Audio-Technica customer support is excellent. I dropped this mic, and the bottom hot-shoe plate broke. I sent it to AT Tech support...they fixed it and had it back in my hands within a week. I highly recommend this mic for small film and interview projects.

The wind screen doesn't do much, but other than that I'm happy with this mic. The quality is good in both stereo and mono modes and I've not yet had to replace the battery after probably 20+ hours of use.

This came with my camera purchase. I do not really do video, but I decided to test it out anyway. The audio quality with this mic was great when I did a few test videos. I can't comment on how well it would perform for anyone shooting video professionally, but if you're not a pro and you just need a mic, this is a good choice.

This microphone has been an excellent addition to our recording gear. We researched a lot of microphones and this one was our final decision. We definitely do not regret it. It works perfectly. Highly recommend it!

This stereo/mono shotgun mic is great and has a very high gain that’s adjustable. The built in preamp is quiet and does not distort easy. My only complaint is that it’s frequency response on the high end is a little low at only 18kHz but it does make up on the lower end and produces very full sound.
