I always enjoy Sherrilyn Kenyon's books
I always enjoy Sherrilyn Kenyon's books. This was an excellent continuation of the Dark Hunter story, and I enjoy how each subsequent story pushes the narrative further. Her command of language is great, without being overbearing, and I appreciate the fun sci-fi nature of the storyline. I'm very much looking forward to reading her next books, and am glad I discovered these a few years after she wrote them, so I don't have to wait quite as long to enjoy the rest of the story.

3.5 for the Defender
The StoryThe Alexion is Ash and Simi's companion on Katoteros. Alexion was a dark hunter that was killed. Ash saved him 9000 years ago. Alexion is now Ash's judge, jury and executioner of DarkHunters that go rogue. When Alexion was a DH, he was best friends with Kyros. Kyros is now in danger of becoming rouge, he is being influenced by the head Daimon, Stryker. Kyros is trying to turn all the DH's in the area against Ash and Artemis. It is Alexion's job to save those who will be saved and execute the threats, he has a week on earth before he must return to Katoteros. It's a tough job, especially being emotionally invested in Kyros. Alexion chooses Danger to assist him in saving the Dh's. Danger never lets anyone close, but Alexion gets under her shields like no other.ThoughtsAlexion deserves happiness after 9000 years of being alone. This book shows more important details about Acheron, but other than that this is a forgettable book. Alexion means `defender' in Atlantian. Danger is a dark Hunter from the French Revolution. She is the one who called Ash's attention to the rouge DH's in Mississippi. I can't remember if Alexion is in Ash's book, but it seems to reason he should be. There are insights into Ash and his world, but its nothing vital to the series. The book is fast paced, but the betrayal of the DH's against Ash is irritating.

Kindle Version is Sloppy
From my point of view, "Sins of the Night" is fairly consistent with other Dark-Hunter novels. While the love scenes have grown more than a little repetitious at this point (Kenyon uses the same phrases, encounters, and descriptions time and time - and time - again), the book itself remains interesting and compelling, and fulfills all expectations of the genre.HOWEVER, my one big complaint is about the Kindle version - once again, it is chock full of errors that complicate reading. At one point in the novel several pages are repeated, which momentarily left me wondering whether my Kindle has malfunctioned or if I hit a button without realizing it. No, it was just sloppy publishing. Like all the other Dark-Hunter books, "Sins of the Night" suffers from word omissions, misaligned text, and several other formatting errors. It wouldn't be so annoying if the Kindle version actually cost less than the book, but considering they have the potential to make so much more money from e-books (after all, I have to imagine "printing" costs are significantly reduced!), I would expect a higher quality publication.

Very disappointing!
I love the DH series and recommend them to all my friends who like witty, sexy vampire stories but I will not be recommending this one to anyone.Gorgeous, tragic and 'other', Alexion is the enforcer who comes out of the night to kill Dark-Hunters when they betray their Code and start killing humans instead of protecting them.Beautiful, sarcastic and a loner, Dangereuse St. Richard is a Dark Huntress who is being recruited to the 'darkside'.Alexion shows up on her doorstep hoping for her help to save a friend from his former life from his very final judgment and the story goes from there involving demons, daimons and corrupt Dark-Hunters.Alexion is suppose to be relentless and unfeeling yet he comes across as a deeply caring person in his interactions and inner dialogue involving Simi, Acheron, Dangereurse and the Dark-Hunters, especially his old friend, whom he is there to save. Likable, lovable and sexy with his mix of blunt sexual talk and sly innuendoes he should be a joy to read about but too soon the tradegy of his existence overshadows all, turning him into a depressing character.I've long waited for one of the series to feature a Dark-Huntress as the lead, a female with an edge, some real steel and a serious attitude. Unfortunately, this was not it. Dangereuse is soft, reactive and irresolute. Outside of her butt-kicking skills and sarcasm, she's not much different than a typical 'bodice-ripper' heroine. The human Tabitha Devereaux (Seize the Night, same author) was tougher and emotionally stronger (and more fun). The storyline, involving an arch-enemy of Acheron's from a previous book, was slow and, although the corruption coming from within was a new and should have been an interesting angle, it never moved beyond a skeletal plot device to put the lovers together. By the time it came to an end, I didn't care who lived, who died and who won.The loveline, on the other hand, moved very fast. Which was understandable considering neither of them had had sex for over two hundred years and were thrown into close proximity during a crisis. Made it a little hard to believe it was more than infatuation though (although not as hard as it was to believe she hadn't had sex in the last two hundred years because sex without love isn't satisfying to the Dark-Huntresses unlike the Dark-Hunters who tend to do anything which will stand still long enough!). But I did think, after the 'fairy-godmother-Acheron' endings of the last couple of books, this one was more in line with the rules set out for their existences as well as a sweet happily ever after.Overall, between the wishy-washy female character, the glaring sexual double-standard, the bare-bones plot and the lack of humor (I only laughted out loud once and the whole second demon thing was a cheap repeat of the charming Simi), I found it to be the poorest book in this series. The only saving grace I found was the additional information about Dark Hunter history, shades and Acheron.

WOW
I read the first 16 books straight after the other, this series is amazing and definitely worth the money. Everything about the Dark Hunter world is fantastic, I having a major book hangover of these books.

Not for youth readers
I love this author, she is amazing in all of her books. her romance scenes are very detailed and very intense, some more then others. make sure these books do not fall into the hands of your young readers.

More than the average series
I love how Kenyon changes the type of characters for her heroes. Some series follow only vampires or only weres, but Kenyon spices up her series by introducing different ones. This main character was a Shade...similar to a ghost, but more. His obstacle was also different in that many of his "bad guys" were actually misguided "good guys" and rather than simply kill them off, he tried to bring them back to being "good".

Something a little different, but still wonderful!
The Dark Hunter series forges ahead with this, book #9, in which we see a turn away from the New Orleans setting and the Dark Hunter community there and move to Mississippi, with our first Dark Hunter female main character, Danger. In this story it's almost as if Sherrilyn Kenyon is testing the water and exploring new ground on which to build a path for her DH series. We learn lots more about Acheron and the other beings that make up this fantastic fantasy world. The book also contains a short story at the end, which helps us understand more about the origins of the Dark Hunters. But it's recommended you read the short story before the main story.Alexion, the male lead in this book, unlike the previous stories, is not a human. He's something else; a Shade, bought back to some semblance of existence by Acheron, to exist as an enforcer of sorts. He wields almost the same power as Acheron and only comes to Earth when evil forces are at work, provoking an uprising.I wasn't sure whether or not this book would appeal to me, since I've spent so much time enjoying the adventures and intermingled tales of the Dark Hunters in New Orleans, however Keynon's writing is so skilfully consistent and her world so perfectly thought out that even though I was meeting new Dark Hunters, it all still felt wonderfully familiar to me. This was helped, of course, by Ash and Simi, who are without a doubt one of my favourite double acts from this series.Book #10, Unleash the Night, is already beside me as I type and I see we're heading back to New Orleans. But no matter where this or future books take me, Sins of the Night has sealed the deal with me; this series is worthy of my loyalty and seeing it through to the end! Let's just hope it doesn't come too soon ...

Quite simply, fantastic!
Ahhh, Alexion and Danger! What a great couple!I love their pasts, their present and their future. When Alexion is sent by Acheron (*swoon* lol) to mete out the appropriate punishment for the rougue Dark Hunters, he ends up meeting Dangereuse and getting a whole lot more than his aim to save his friend from many, many years ago while Alexion was still mortal. For fans of the Dark Hunter series, this is essential reading as you find out so much more about the Dark Hunters, Acheron (their leader) and Simi (could she get more cute??)heheheh Travis Fimmell :PDanger is the first Dark Huntress to get her story and it was worth waiting for, it sweet and tender but action filled enough to satisfy the diverse fans of the series. If this is the first DH book you've picked up, I urge you to start from the beginning as I am sure you will cherish them all and they will all have a special place on your shelf! (I'm carting mine with me when I move, they are that special :D)The titles get a little confusing, even for me and I'm a veteran lol so here they are in reading orderFantasy Lover - Grace and Julian (Not strictly a DH novel, but well worth reading as it introduces the first character to get his own DH novel)The Beginning - which you can find on Sherrilyn Kenyon's website or in the back of Sins Of The Night - it's a short intro into the world of the Dark Hunter's and their, well, erm, beginning lolNight Pleasures - Kyrian and AmandaNight Embrace - Talon and SunshinePhantom Lover (in the anthology Midnight Pleasures - V'Aidan and Erin (V'Aiden is the only Dream Hunter so far)Dance with the Devil - Zarek and Astrid (Never have I ever felt so bad for a character ever in my life, it will wrench your heart)A Dark-Hunter Christmas (found on Kenyon's website and in the back of Dance with the Devil) - It's about a DH called Gallagher who will have his own story sometimeKiss of the Night - Wulf and CassandraNight Play - Vane and Bride (who we both meet in Night Embrace)Vane is a Were-Hunter but trust me, it's such a beautiful and funny book.Winter Born (in the anthology Stroke of Midnight) - Dante and PandoraSeize the Night - Valerius and Tabitha (twin of Amanda)Sins of the Night - Alexion and DangerAnd the one all DH fans are eagerly waitng forUnleash the Night - Wren and Marguerite which I can't wait for!Believe me, when Acheron's stories come out, early 2007 I believe, there will be a deluge of people writing so many rave reviews, there will be almost no point for me to write one, but I will anyway, to reiterate all the reviews that shout out it's greatness lolSuch faith in Kenyon's ability is rewarded everytime you pick up one of her amazing books!

Dark Hunter World - Sins of the Night
I am officially hooked to the Dark Hunter World! This is the eighth book in the series and features the Dark Huntress Dangerouse (Danger) and Alexion (Lex). Lex or Ias as he was known in ancient Greece was the very first Dark Hunter to ever have tried to get his soul back from Artemis. His is a cautionary tale for all Dark Hunters to make sure they are absolutely certain in the woman entrusted to regain their soul as Ias' wife failed and subsequently Ias became a shade sentenced to exist but not to exist for all eternity. Acheron felt so bad at what had happened that he managed to make Ias his Alexion and have some semblance of a life living with Acheron and Simi in Kalosis. Lex is sent to Missisippi to prevent and stop a Dark Hunter uprising which has been schemed and instigated by Stryker. Lex is sent to stay with Danger and they must try together to stop the uprising or else as Acheron's Alexion he must kill those who do....It took me quite a while to get around to discovering this series as when you look up Sherrilyn Kenyon on Amazon and these books in list order it actually shows Dragonswan as being the first book (but it's not) and Dragonswan is never ever available to buy! As a girl who likes to read all books in a series and most definitely the first one in a series, thinking that I couldn't get the first book did actually stop me starting the series. I have only just discovered that the first book is actually Fantasy Lover, read this and have now proceeded to order the rest of the series:) Sherrilyn has now joined the ranks on Gena Showalter and Kresley Cole on my favourite authors list and I can't wait to read the next one.

Loved it
Absolutely loved this book and the characters. You learn so much more about Ash and the back story to this world. Plus Danger and Alexion just work.

Meet Alexion & Danger...
Although I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of familiar Dark Hunters and Were Hunters I couldn't possibly be disappointed with the book. We get the usual mix of paranormal romance with such amazingly compelling characters. But we also get a whole heap of background information on Ash and the creation of the Dark Hunters not to mention our favourite and much loved demon, Simi. I do love this series.
