A great tri-band radio
I'm a sucker for tri-band radios, so when I saw a tri-band UV-82, I couldn't pass it up. It's easy to program with CHIRP and it uses all the accessories a standard dual-band UV-82 uses, so if you have a few of the extended life batteries lying around, they will work in this radio as well. This radio is able to hit all the local repeaters on all three bands. I've been told that my audio sounds crisp and clear. A couple of local hams didn't believe I was on a Baofeng radio. They thought I was using a radio from the "big three." The construction is solid and the form factor makes it a perfect fit for my hand. If you're looking for a quality tri-band handheld, you can't go wrong with this radio.

The classic, now with a 3rd band
I've had the original UV-82 for several years, and it has been a dependable workhorse. This updated model has added the 220 Mhz band, and is proving a worthy addition to the line. I have been carrying it for several weeks now, and had not problems with it while receiving good audio reports. It is easily programmable via CHIRP, and includes a programing cable unlike the earlier model. This is a great radio for the new amateur radio operator and the more experienced alike.

Decent handheld for the price
Pros: good audio on transmit. Very loud and crisp receive audio. Cons: has poor intermod rejection. Programming confusing to most users- same as all Chinese radios. Having to change antennas to get all bands is a real pain,- should come with Tri-band duck instead. User manual does not list all features.

3 ham bands and more in one unit.
I purchased this HT because of the convenience of 3 ham bands, 2m/1.25m/70cm, in one unit. Also, I have the ability to monitor/use the FRS/GMRS and MURS bands if needed. I purchased a tri-band antenna to go along with it instead of swapping the supplied 1.25m and 2m/70cm antennas when needed.

Outstanding tri band radio for the money!!
So I've recently purchased the UV-82x3.. I already own a few hts but I figured this would be a really handy addition to the collection.. I quite regularly use my UV-82 so this should be really familiar when it comes to programming and use was my thoughts... This thing is quite the gem! Very rugged feel, solid, button press is firm, not cheesy.. I tested it on a few local repeaters using all three bands, 2 meter, 440 and 220... I got excellent audio reports on all modes... It was very nice to add 220 capabilities to the collection at a reasonable price! Comes with all the goodies you would expect such as a charger, belt clip, two antennas (1 for 2 meter & 400, 1 for 220) a lanyard and a really easy to understand manual... Connected right up to chirp using my windows computer and cable... DEFINITE two thumbs up!! I'm ordering a second one on payday to leave in the wife's car...
