The first one I got required rewiring. They fused the neutral, not the hot side of the line. That wouldn't be too serious except for the other flaw: in some units, the hot lead to the heating element was inadvertently grounded during assembly at the factory. Those two flaws together will treat you to some great fireworks when you turn it on (for the first and last time). This has been covered very thoroughly on Amazon, as the other reviewers point out. Some great videos of the sparks.My first units works very well. It will quickly make you a master of reflow soldering. The second unit I ordered had a flaw in the fan control. I couldn't control the fan speed. After a few minutes, that didn't matter anymore; the hand piece started smoking and that was the end of that. Presumably, the fan shorted out and died hard. As always, Amazon processed the return very quickly.I'm about to order again, because I still need two of these things, and, when they work, nobody else can touch this price.

Works great for a hobbyist! But if you buy this you should google "858D grounding problem." There seems to be a large number of this design of station that have inadequate internal safety grounding. Fortunately it is easy to fix.
