Great price, might be finicky seems rather fragile
I have many years of experience with optical cable as well as multiple kinds of pro extenders. I just received the 100 foot version and it is about one third the price of the closest alternative. We are a system integrator and have many years of experience with optical as well as all sorts of converters and pro extenders. We run multiple fiber cables for networking as well as to half a dozen large LCDs in our office/meeting room which go to our server room. I'm using this is a USB 3.0 because I need more USB bandwidth for audio and video and the multiple connections were starting to pick up quite a bit of noise. The Good1. It works with the expected throughput2. Much of the noise on on our audio has been eliminated by use of the optical connector3. I have the 100 foot version and Corning has managed to come a price breakthrough compared to closest alternative. The Finicky1. It wouldn't work with the cheapest Amazon Essentials powered USB 3.0 hub.2 It works just fine with a Pluggable seven port powered USB hub. Note: a reviewer from about a year ago said that Pluggable, the manufacturer said that they had problems with their USB 3.0 hub and this cable so YMMV.3. Also make sure that your USB ports do not get powered down as there is no guarantee that you will not get drops even though the blurb says it is "Hot Pluggable". In Windows 7 this means checking both within the Device Manager as well is the Power Plan and changing the settings so the power is never disconnected to the USB ports.4. Also on my custom Windows 7 workstation I used a dedicated separate USB 3.0 card so I cannot easily test the issue of synchronization that some of the other reviewers have mentionedThe Fragile and Questions1. This is a very thin optical cable and I would assume it would be very easy to damage during installation. As we have Data Center Snake Trays and 4 inch conduit for cable runs that are less than one quarter full I was able to install this hundred foot run without incident but I did use a helper cable and tape because I wasn't sure just how strong the actual fibers were.2. Also I don't see how the connectors would stand up to the typical level of abuse that a normal USB connector would get an office environment. I have mine supported to prevent any kind of damaging movement.3. I have experienced infant mortality with fiber cables before so I will update this review in a month
