Pan Tadeusz: The Last Foray in Lithuania [DVD] (English subtitles)

I'd wanted for years to watch this film, but as it always said Region 1 it's only now when dvd players tend to be region-free that I've dared to go for it. I had some difficulty at first settling into it and grasping the storyline (even though I know the historical context fairly well and could work out that some of the scenes show Adam Mickiewicz in exile writing the poem) but then I really started to enjoy it. The feasting, hunting and fighting scenes are superbly done.

Can’t rate product because I have cancelled the purchase (located my own old dvd) but i do know the book and the movie with all my heart. Definitely recommend.

The main reason I bought this DVD was to help with learning the Polish language and in doing so I have discovered quite an excellent film. The film is based on the poem Pan Tadeusz and having read an English version (most of it at least - it's a very long poem) it does appear to follow the original poem.The film does however loose some of its momentum at some of the battle scenes but this is not surprising as the movie is a greatly condensed version of the poem.It is a well shot movie with excellent photography.For English speakers who need to use the subtitles it was a little difficult to read as it often clashed with the background pictures.A good movie will always be watch-able again and this is certainly one of those.

This is a stirring story of ancient betrayals, feuds and vengeance. It helps if you read up about the story first, as sometimes it's a bit confusing. The original poem by Adam Mizkiewich on which it's based is something that most Polish people study in school, but for non Poles a bit of bacground before the film starts will be helpful.I did enjoy it, though.

Well, this is dubbed into Spanish, with English subtitles, and so voluble are the dubbed voices that I couldn't tell whether this Polish-Lithuanian epic is serious or jokey. And this is the great Wajda! OK to be going on with, but really, we need a proper original language version + English subtitles to be made availabe in the UK/US. It looks good, though.
