Newman's Own Licorice Twists, Strawberry, 5-Ounce Packages (Pack of 15)

Update: 8/11/16. well my wife went and ordered another case. Bad idea. Check out the picture. Wicked gross and goey. Absolutely disgusting to touch never mind eat. Plus the licorice was hard, not to mention disgusting to handle. The exp date is the same as my precious purchase. NOV 2016. So if you want this item, which I never ever will again, wait till DEC of 2016 to order.---/////---- original review.Last purchase of this item for us. We have bought 3 cases of this item. Thafs ALOT of licorice! First case was tremendous. Clearly a 5 star purchase. Second case was a mixed bag. A few of the individual packages had little to no white sugar in the licorice. OK fine. the rest of the bags were tremendous.Even though the sugar coating makes the licorice, still a 3 start purchase. now the 3rd case was the worsthe the case we have now. The expiration date was 6 months from expiring. For all of the packages. We still have 3 bags left to open but only two bags so far had sugar on the licorice. And with almost every bag, the licorice was VERY HARD to chew. Not fresh at all. Definitely hard. No sense in trying this item a 4th time. What a shame.

These are plastic-y trash since they changed the recipe. Now they have no flavor and they are hard to chew.Bring back the old ones, Newman’s. I won’t ever buy this product again as is.

We were planning a trip and I wanted the kids to have healthier snacks instead of fast food and gas station snacks the whole way. My kids ask for twizzlers. That when I got on amazon to find a healthier option. So I ordered these. At first, I thought the flavor was a little weak only bc I was comparing it to twizzlers. After a few days of eating these I really have acquired a taste for these. The flavor is great and I love the texture. I got online and reordered more. Since then I have tasted a twizzlers pull and peel and I can taste the chemical junk in it. That's something I never noticed before. I guess I was used to it. I'll never buy them again. We love Newman's own licorice! We will continue buying. Amazon has the best price too.

Updating review after receiving a non-sour variety (Strawberry), which is a 100% different product than the sour varieties I had previously reviewed. The non-sour variety is your typical hard, waxy, plastic-like licorice--completely unlike the soft, syrupy, sugary, sweet out of this world flavor of the Sour Apple variety. To make matters worse the Strawberry is completely bland and flavorless (go figure hard plastic texture would have no flavor). Stick to the sour varieties! They aren't sour, so don't worry -- but they *are* soft, tender, chewy, syrupy, sugary, sweet, and flavorful! Sour Apple is delish -- tastes like real apple flavor (because it is). Texture is sort of a sticky/syrupy coated with granules of sugar, which really enhances the enjoyment over the plastic texture (BTW, these are eligible for 20% off with Amazon Prime/Mom Subscribe and Save discount).

These were once delicious and a real treat. I ordered the 12 pack box and was super excited when they arrived.This is NOT at all the quality from like 5 or so years ago. These are flavorless, dull, floury tasting strips of crap. Sorry to have to say it but I would NEVER buy them again.A better name for this would beNewman’s Own “Tire Jerky” !

I was happy to find this item, such a reasonable price, was for 15 packages, usually takes a week or more to go through one. Then I realized the good til date is only 2 months away! Seriously!, it was packed 10 mos ago, no wonder it has only 2 months to go. I don't recall seeing this information in the description.I'd like to get a package that's got a longer shelf life, is that possible?We'll see.

I've been trying to find a delicious black licorice for, would you believe it, the last 18 months? We've enjoyed these twists, although they're not the kind I ate as a kid; i.e. the long black ones that were hard and chewy and Not sticky. So far, these are the best we've found and, after all, so much of the Newman foundation profits go to charity, it isn't a hardship to have these as opposed to anything else we've tried out there, but I'm still on a search. Any suggestions are welcome.UPDATE - Beware: If the expiration date is less than 6 months away, the licorice gets sticky AND MOLDY

I was a huge fan of the Newmans Pomegranate licorice! Then they changed it and won't admit it!! It used to be very flavorful and awesome. Now it it is less sweet (which is kind of okay) but its texture is like chewing on bad rubber. The flavor is mostly gone and I guess I'll have to find something new.
