A great book that is far better than most modern books.

Very little info. Most is just ukemi (falls).

Great historical reference on Jujutsu at turn of the 20th century.

Very enjoyable book. Really liked the old images of the throws.

A real treasure as a historical piece. The use of continuous film frames was an innovative idea and would have been great in books that were written much, much later than this one. (Other sites have the films re-animated.)That said/written, on the Kindle edition you can't really make out the individual frames, even when you try to enlarge them. The pictures in the the grappling section are fine because they are individual shots.Also, it looks like a few words got scrambled in the scanning process; further, judging from a couple of references in the text, there may be a couple of plates/pictures missing. Still, easily a 3-star book imho.

I've practiced Japanese jujutsu for 8 years now. I was looking for a good comprehensive book to have on hand for continuous study. This is not it.

It's exactly what I wanted

This books gives a very good and detailed introduction to Ju Jutsu and would be beneficial to both beginners and well attuned Ju Jutsuan’s.I believe that if one learned this book back to front and they had basic Ju Jutsu training learning about the principles of Ju Jutsu they could walk into any dojo, whether that be a Judo or BJJ or Karate or Aikido, I believe that with a small inventory the Ju Jutsuan would pose very well and out match the other martial arts.
