Great for the Price!
I just received my first laser rangefinder with the Breaking 80. Because of the price ($148) and the several positive reviews, I decided to take the plunge and purchase this unit. I have used the Sonocaddie GPS unit for years and recently downloaded the GolfShot iphone GPS app. Both are good but can be inconsistent. Hence, the decision to try to get exact yardage with laser rangefinder. The rangefinder was shipped quickly and was packaged fine. The unit is very compact and feels very nice in the hand. It will fit nicely in the bag. I read the instructions thoroughly and understand there are 2 buttons: one for locking on the object (pin or other object) and one is for mode for pin or other objects.....it can change to meters as well. After installing the battery, I went out to see how well it worked. I live on a par 5 hold so it it was easy to determine its accuracy. Initially, I had problems with the unit as it did not seem to be registering but it getting near dark so I put it away to try the next day.On the next day, I had a chance to play 9 holes on a par 3 course and it worked very well. I need the rangefinder because this course does not have different color flags to tell the golfer whether the pin is in the front, center or back of the green. Sometimes, in the "pin sensor" mode, it would lock onto other objects but it was easy to tell because the yardage was well off. You simply release the button and try again to lock onto the pin. On each of the holes, it was within a yard or "on the money" with the distance. Of course, this unit does not measure slope so you have to keep that in mind when you get the yardage. Also, you have to keep the unit steady for it to lock onto the pin but it did not seem obtrusive in getting what I needed. In conclusion, I would recommend this product. The price is great and the yardages seem to be accurate given the usual difficulties working with a laser, I finally feel that I have a tool that will give me accurate distances and not have to rely on a satellite.February 5, 2015 update: I have used the rangefinder for 10 rounds with no need to change the battery. Also, in the pin seeker mode, you can still focus on people (ahead of you) or objects and it will give you accurate yardage. Sometimes, with some items in the background of the pin, you will get incorrect yardage focusing on objects behind the pin but it is easy to determine that it is incorrect. You simply release the seek button and try again. Depending on the background, it will eventually give you the correct reading for yardage. I have compared it to other more expensive rangefinders in my golfing group and the yardages are the same. Still a 5 star review.March 5, 2015 update (last one) - Have played another 15 rounds over the past month and still have not had to change the battery. Was in a group with 2 Bushnells and a Leopold rangefinder(s) and it had the exact same yardage as the others. Seems to lock onto the pin or other objects easily. Without question, still very satisfied with the purchase!November 25, 2017 update (definitely last one). The rangefinder is dying. Have used it for numerous rounds over a 12 month season (Michigan and Florida) and it worked perfectly compared to other rangefinders. Now, the last digit in the rangefinder is no longer showing (so, a 12 could be 120 or 129), so it appears I will need to get a new one. However, again, at this price, it worked just fine and satisfied with the purchase.

Breaking 80 Not as Sophisticated as the More Expensive Bushnell Pin Seeker
I purchased the product as a replacement for a Bushnell Pin Seeker that no longer worked (randomly wouldn't turn on).The Breaking 80 costs less than half the Bushnell ($400), and its technology is not as sophisticated. It is hard for it to find distant flags when there are background targets, e.g., trees or buildings. The Breaking 80 finds the background targets rather than the flag. Usually, repeated attempts resting the device on a very stable base will yield the correct reading, e.g., 175 yards instead of 250 yards). In addition, the Breaking 80 sometimes will not find close flags, e.g. 30 yards. Workaround: Pace off the yardage (probably a good idea anyway). The Pin Seeker usually has no trouble finding either flag, especially the close ones.A positive for the Breaking 80: It is sufficiently small that it can be carried in a pocket. The Pin Seeker won't fit, which means getting it out of the bag whenever it is needed. It could be attached to the bag via a carrying case, but that invites theft.I would purchase the Breaking 80 again, and deal with the problems mentioned above. In the meantime, I had the Pin Seeker repaired (no charge for that) and carry both. I use the Breaking 80 for almost all of the reads (much more convenient to get it out of my pocket) and use the Pin Seeker for the Breaking 80 long distance "misses."Important note: Any of these products will return some yardage, and sometimes it is a background object. You need to have a general idea of the expected yardage and keep trying until you get the correct reading. The Pin Seeker technology does that better than the Breaking 80. Maybe it should, given it costs more than twice the price of the Breaking 80.

The first two times I went with some friends who had range finders and had no problem telling me how far I was away from the fla
I am a Rookie to the golf game. Been on the course a total of three times. The first two times I went with some friends who had range finders and had no problem telling me how far I was away from the flag/green which was cool. But I got tired of relying on folks so I did some shopping around for a good range finder without spending 3+ Hundred bucks for one. I like golf but it aint that serious for me right now. Just wanted something accurate and easy to use. Breaking 80 is just that. I did have to find a way to stabilize it while trying to lock in on my target which took some getting used to but I figured it out after a while without much difficulty. Bottom line is this. Breaking 80 is accurate. Took it to the range to verify distance there as well and was spot on. Was so excited to finally have my own, I went out on my own for my third trip to the course (9 hole) and was very pleased with it. Didn't golf worth a hoot that day but at least I don't have to rely on anyone else and if I cant find anyone to go play 9 holes with it doesn't matter because I have my on hand held target caddy if you will. Highly recommend it. Hit em good!

the reading were quite accurate and the unit is very easy to use
so I have used this rangefinder now for about 1 month and initially I was very excited..the reading were quite accurate and the unit is very easy to use, as well it's very hard to find a unit that has Pinseeker technology for such a low price.that being said, however, after about the third week the adjustable lens broke and it seems to be super glued. Also, the case for it is very very tight and the inside snap is made of metal that rubs acrossed the sides of the range finder and create a very dull and worn look.I bought the black one and I believe I paid $163 , so it wasn't terrible, but now the price has gone up to 179 and I probably wouldn't pay that again. Also this unit seems to be produced under many different names, all that have the same style just a different brand and all about the price, with the same style of housing and features. You can also order this unit off of ebay for 125, shipped from China.there is however something to be said about the peace of mind when buying from Amazon
