Why so expensive?

When I set out to design this indigo kit, it was in contrasting response to the glut of cheap indigo dye kits activated by synthetic indigo pigment derived from fossil fuels, ineffective or toxic ingredients and flimsy materials like rubber bands and popsicle sticks.

The ingredients and materials included in this kit are of the highest quality available and include : actual hardwood sticks that we have custom manufactured and can be used for years (for this kit and beyond) as well as strong hemp-linen cord which can be used to create patterns by tying off the cloth and sticks. The kit includes a bandana for dyeing as well. The indigo is grown and extracted in the USA, guaranteed to be naturally produced - not synthetically produced through opaque and potentially harmful supply chains. The kits are all assembled in the USA from materials printed and manufactured by US workers.

I feel confident to say that this is the highest quality collection of materials to start an indigo vat that is available in a single box. It is the kit I wish that I'd had when I started dyeing.

Do you have to use all of the ingredients at once for the vat dyeing, or can you make smaller batches from time to time?

I suppose you could.  It comes as a dry ingredient so if you’re good at portions then I can’t think of a reason it wouldn’t work.

Can this kit dye a wool sweater weighing 1lb 2 oz dark blue?
