Patrick Warburton is Rock Slyde, private detective. He's a little more Frank Drebin than Philip Marlowe, but he backs down from no one. Times have changed, he has not. Often times brilliant, but most times slightly confused, Rock gets the job done. Times have been tough for business, but that all changes when femme fatale Sara Lee (Rena Sofer) enters the office late one evening. Rock's nemesis is Bart (Andy Dick), the charismatic leader of the House of Bartology. Bart and his henchmen have strong-armed all of the tenants in their office complex to move out so they can control the building -- except for one... Rock Slyde. Aside from resisting the House of Bartology's intimidation, Rock's feelings for Sara Lee begin to feel more serious than the usual client-detective relationship. They find common ground in the little things: EBay and the Tuesday supermarket ads. What will happen when Rock finds out that Sara Lee is also a... Bartologist?

Something Out Of The Ordinary
The signature voice of Patrick Warburton is always enjoyable to listen to. But watching him in Rock Slyde as Rock Slyde is great. Rock Slyde is about a struggling private eye who face skeletons in his closet when one of his clients hires him to solve a mystery that involves a weird religious group. Andy Dick who plays the cults leader is the one who recognizes Rock Slyde from his colorful past but can't get him to admit it. I thought the whole idea was hilarious and I think the movie is a "keeper". I added it to my collection. It is the type of movie you can see over and over again and every time I watched it I discovered something different and funny.

My kind of stupid. Perfect for Patrick.
I picked this up because I'm a Patrick Warburton fan. I especially liked him in the live action version of The Tick, where he played the somewhat befuddled Super Hero. If you like Patrick, especially the dry, dead pan characters, you will probably like this. If not, then don't bother. You will find this very silly and somewhat stupid. But, it's my kind of stupid. Andy Dick is the bad guy, a less than sinister mind controlling Cult Guru. This also suited him as he mind controlled his way over everyone except Rock 'simpleton' Slyde, who had no mind to control, but still had enough smarts to outwit our villain. Cheers to the people who cast this movie! They did a wonderful job.

Didn't do it for me
I didn't even finish it. It is a spoof on the film noir genre of the 1940's and 50's, especially Sam Spade. I found it a little too over the top and not all that cleverly written. The actors do a good job with the material they were given, but although I usually like satire this movie did not hold my interest.

I like Pat Wharburton in most of his portrayals
In the formula of a 40's style "PI" movie but modern setting and a comedic turn, Pat Wharburton turns out a dead pan delivery as a rape whistle toting (sans gun) Private Investigator, Rock Slyde. The Maltese Falcon style set up is apparent immediately as he narrates the entrance of a new client (adding to the plot) as SHE enters his office for the 1st time.Having the only other business in a multilevel building now almost completely occupied "The "House of Bartology" .A battle breaks out between Slyde and Bart of Bartology where Slyde wants to keep his office and Bart wants the last office space for Bartology recruiting effortsSelf narration by Slyde keeps us up to date on the details that are WAY too much to cover for the length of the film. I like Pat Wharburton in most of his portrayals, so it gets a 3 star rating for the actor selection. Normally a 1.5 to 2.0 stars for almost anyone else. Not a "laugh til your gut hurts" but if you enjoy Wharburton you might like this as well.

Just not funny
I almost skipped this because it had Andy Dick in it and he's never funny, but I thought the rest of the cast might make up for it. I thought wrong. A parody has to be funny, that's kind of the point. I gave it an extra star because the Jolly Roger song was catchy.

Just Okay
This is kind of a fun movie to watch, I guess you have to like Patrick Warburton's smarmy style to watch it. Its quite funny though and it doesn't take itself to seriously. It is the kind of movie you can watch in bed, fall asleep and realize you didn't see the ending but really didn't care. Should you watch this? If you like this spoof comedy genre then yes, it is one of the better ones but know this, all movies in this genre kind of suck anyway.
