This Book Will Make Both You and Your Horse Better - Guaranteed
Claire Lilley has written a book where the important is separated from the not-so-important. It's easy to get lost in the 'riding-jungle' focusing on the wrong things, before you've mastered crucial aspects. The Pareto Principle; 20% gives 80% of the results is true in dressage as well. Even more than so, unless the pyramid is built properly from the ground up, it will fall apart - goes for both riders and horse. Perfection won't be reached, but we can make sure we're really good at whatever stage we're at (both horse and rider). Claire Lilley gives a hands-on, theoretical yet highly pragmatic and tangible guide towards reaching just that.I honestly couldn't stop reading once I started. There is nothing new, but by reinforcing essential aspects it brought much clarity. Some aids are expressed with new analogies that helped me visualize what I'm doing in a new way. Eager to try out her exercises.Highly recommended.

trainig fron the begining
Wow this has been a really good book to read. As it says on the front cover, it is about the training scale and how to use it in your riding. From dressage to show jumping. I know about the training pyramid, but this puts it in a daily working sense. Start with rhythm, if that is lacking, you really can't move forward successfully, but it pays to read it through entirely and you can work out most of your schooling problems. In each section it goes over the 'WHY' of each step of the scale and at the end of the section, it gives you practical exercises to help you with each scale, both in flat work and jumping. From my experience, really good trainers and riders do jumping exercises too.It really will help you understand the training scale correctly. This is one book I'll go back to to refresh my memory when I am having difficulty, when I'm re-educating my ex-racehorses, or dealing with young horses. All the problems of resistance and disobedience(& not being in physical pain), stems from lack of rhythm, or suppleness, contact, impulsion, straightness or collection! Now you can have some answers of how to fix it!!!

Excellent for understanding and identifying issues
The simplicity of the training scale and itβs importance are outlined. I go back to this book frequently, when I run into a problem. It always addresses a problem encountered in one of the 6 tiers of training

I was able to get this book at half the price and in a much faster time then the shipping estimate originally said. I'm a former eventer turned show jumper and I highly value dressage and proper flatwork. I currently pull one exercise out of the book in a progression each week with my jumper trainer.

Easy to understand, read and try exercises
I loved this book. It's a really useful guide, even for professionals, I found many interesting ideas for exercises and lesson plans for when I am teaching. It's nice and easy to read, it's not overly complicated for those who are only learning the principles. I also love the attitude of the writer - that problems rarely occur because of the horse, it's mainly the riding what's causing them. I highly recommend this.
