It takes a minute to charge, so have it ready before hand. I am an engineer and in my industry we use ultraviolet light to sanitize our drinking water after desalinization. My dentist uses it. And China used it in the shipyard cafeteria. My point is, just because I can't see it, I still know it works. I travel for a living and due to my education and experience....it is piece of mind. The only reason I didn't give it 5 starts is it is bulky to travel with, but sanitizing a mattress would take too long with a smaller one

love this item
love this item. it actually works. I used this sanitizing wand and the germ guardian for my basement and it keeps the closed in and moldy smells away. I stopped using these items to give them a break and found that after 6 months I had to put them back in my basement and it cleaned the air within two or three days. Thanks

Cool but can't tell if it works.
I bought this product because it was a daily deal and seemed useful. I wanted to use it all around the house on things I thought could be "germy". I like this product because it is rechargeable and has a timer. When I got it I used a it a bunch around my room and around the house but I just could'nt tell if it was working or not. The instructions give you an idea of how long it takes to "sanitize" some things such as your bed. But I would slowly wand it over my bed and couldn't really tell the difference which made me wonder if it was really working. I am not sure how you could tell unless you have a micro scope or something along those lines but I just trust it works. I think only downfalls for me is the safety mechanism built in that does not allow you to face the light upwards. I guess it was made so you can't turn it over and UV yourself in the face? This is good in the fact you can't UV yourself but also really bad because sometimes if you turn it a certain way the light turns off or starts to kind of flicker. This makes it a bit hard to use in certain areas.

The Verilux CleanWave - Hampered By High Defect Rate & Design Limitations
The Verilux CleanWave VH01WW4 UV-C Sanitizing Wand is a good concept, and is something I have been waiting quite a while to purchase. I already did enough research to be a believer in the concept. The unfortunate reality is that this product seems to be poorly implemented. Perhaps it is difficult to implement, and I will update this once I receive a replacement for my first product. But so far my results have been unimpressive. There seems to be a lot of lemons out there.THE GOOD++ The unit can be used with the AC adapter connected, which is good since the battery seems to have frequent problems holding a charge++ The unit includes a travel case, which is convenient for storage and transport++ The unit is based on UV technology that, in theory, should produce good results after repeated uses++ Setup is simple (though it does require a small flat head screw driver!) and the included manual is thoroughTHE BAD-- There seems to be a high failure rate in the electronics or rechargeable battery. My first unit did not give me a charge indicator, but seemed to have some juice after over-night charging. Even after leaving it connected for more than the 14 hours they recommend, it never fully charged.-- While the unit can be used with the AC adapter, it seems to overheat too quickly. So after using it for what seemed like just a few minutes, it would initiate the power off sequence and have to cool off for about an hour before I could use it again.-- The UV light produced requires repeated slow uses to truly kill high percentages of bacteria, germs and eggs. That would not be a problem on its own, but because the unit can only be run for a short period of time it becomes difficult to use effectively-- The unit works best on flat surfaces and cannot be used sideways without triggering the safety shut-off. That makes it difficult to use on furniture and even highly textured bedding and linensCONCLUSIONIf my replacement includes a functioning battery that holds a charge, I will give this another look. But so far I will have to recommend that people wait for the next revision of this product.

Great for horizontal surfaces
Works good on horizontal surfaces. It has an auto shut off at a certain angle, hard to do vertical surfaces such as curtains. Worked good otherwise.

I don't have a lab to test how well this thing works so I can only really comment on the fact it lights up and it was delivered on time without damage. I watched a channel 8 review of it where they did lab testing and it apparently works well. I'll take their word for it.

Excellent
Although a bit large (not really meant for travel), it is durable, has a large disinfecting area that is clearly marked out on the wand. It is easy to use with helpful audible beeps when it turns on and off. Holds charge for a few hours and is fast to recharge with included AC adapter. I use it to disinfect my cell phone, especially after using it at the gym. Better than wet wipes for electronics and other household items.

To kill mold and fungi on young seedlings
Perhaps it works. I bought it to kill fungi and mold on young seedlings. Unfortunately safety feature does not allow me to kill fungi on windows, in a shower, etc.; its use really limited. I cannot use it at bedsides for instance.I lost AC adapter and cannot find replacement at Amazon. Spare at manufacturer site costs comparably to the whole unit. That's why removing two more stars.

Good but I just don't have the time to move it up and down 1 inch per second / 3 times/week over a big room. I do believe it is effective as detailed.

Convenient santizer
Very well designed and easy to use product. The wand's timer keeps track of how long it has been used to treat an area.

Works as expected
The position sensitive cut off switch is a bit annoying, but the wand does the job I expected. I bought it to get mold smells out of furniture that could not be easily washed. It did the trick, but it's a little slow to use. I had to re-orient the furniture a few times to avoid the cut-off switch from kicking in.

it's a very good tool to sanitize the bed sheets
It does its job. Especially during the winter when there is no sun light, it's a very good tool to sanitize the bed sheets.
