Does what it says
Great filter, cuts down on air flow a little bit (all filters will) and I can see all the dust that this filter is stopping, it truly does work. It is a very high quality filter and the indent makes the fan fit perfectly (I have an antec 300 case). I believe these filters include a set of 4 black screws as well, which is a great help if you have a black case like I do. If you have a computer that moves a lot of air and you don't live in a clean room, then this filter is a must. In case you were wondering, these filters can be washed in the sink with no issues. I rinse these filters about once every 2 weeks to get all the dust out and ensure optimal air flow and they hold up just fine! Really stellar filter.

A handy filter
SilverStone 120mm Fan Filter with Grill FF121B (Black) I am using this filter with a free-standing pc fan running off an old cell-phone charger. It cools two free-standing Seagate Go Flex Drives which are passively cooled. After using the drives for a short while, I was annoyed to find the cases quickly became quite warm to the touch. In a cool room, they were running over 38 - 40 degrees Celsius (outside case temperature). So I set up this fan and now the cases are cool or at most, just a tad warm. I suspect this cooling will extend the disk life span and improve reliability, but I wanted to make sure the air was reasonably clean to protect the fan and the case openings from clogging. This filter does the job. After 4 months of use (8 - 12 hours a day) the fan wasn't blowing as much air, so I pulled the filter and saw it held a lot of dust. But the fan and blades were clean. A quick wash with some soap and a rinse under the tap cleared the the dust away, and the air flow is back to normal. In the future, I'll wash the filter every 10 weeks or so, which is about how often I thoroughly dust and wipe down that area, anyway. All in all, a nice balance of cleaning the air while not requiring any irksomely-frequent maintenance. You can rig up a filter, I suppose, but it is hardly worth the effort. On the intake fan for a pc case, you may find it adequate -or not. I think it could work there as well.

Simple but Effective None the Less
This is as basic as you would expect. A fairly flimsy piece of plastic with mesh attached. However, it works and it works well. The mesh is of a good quality and compared to other filters I have seen and used, this allows a good amount of air in while removing a good amount of dust. This is where the balance lies. A fan filter will always slow and limit air intake but at the same time it will keep a certain amount of dust out of your system. Air flow will always be limited and dust will always get through but you have to decide what is more important. For me and the gaming machines I build, this was effective at the balance of airflow to dust capture ratio. If you clean this filter every so often then it will do as it is intended and keep the air flowing and limit the dust going in. I currently do not use the filter as my case has good and removable filters installed with it, which brings me to what I dislike about this. It does a good job when you're case doesn't come with filters or comes with poor filters but it is rather difficult to remove for a good cleaning. You would have to unscrew the filter each time if you wanted to thoroughly clean it. I think if this magnetically attached to the metal screws holding the fan, this would be an easy five star filter that I could easily recommend, but it is not. For me, my current case has good filters built in that are easily removable so I don't have a need for this anymore. If you have an older case and a lot of dust then this is still an easy recommendation. You can always just vacuum the filter off when it gets congested and that will generally be good enough. If you need protection from dust, the price is reasonable and I'd recommend these as a good option.

UPDATE* AMAZON has FIXED the Price !!! GREAT PRODUCT & PRICE
AMAZON HAS FIXED THIS PRICE !!!!! At one time the price was incorrectly marked as $29.99 and now it is $2.99 which is a good price for a good product. I left part of the old review here so that people that you must always watch the prices and that Amazon will fix a error if it is brought to their attention. They are a great company. OLD POST next 4 lines.* "I bought this from you for $2.50 and free S&H ($25.00 or more order). This is clearly a mis-print, check the suggested retail price from the maker. Fix the price and I will order more, I hope no one orders this item, thinking it is the correct price. Then I will gladly rewrite my review." *****IMPORTANT UPDATE : Amazon being a great company has corrected their price error. They have millions of items and I know mistakes happen but they fixed it and that is cool. The Silverstone 120mm Filter with Grill FF121B (Black) is a top quality product it is not metal but I have seen many grill/filters costing much more and I think these are better, low profile (approx.1/8") nice logo in center and honeycomb mesh grill looks great, filter is a thin mesh screen that is easy to clean with compressed air or water. With any filtering system you lose some air flow but without any, dust gathers on components and will cause the heat to rise enough to cause damage, loss of performance or system failure. So don't spend a lot of money building a nice computer only to overheat it get fans and filters, clean them often, and when gaming "Kill em All". Thanks Amazon and SilverStone for another 5 Star (*****) product. Joseph W. aka WaterRabbit, Cape Cod, MA , USA, Earth

As good as they look - here are some mounting details.
Pretty much what I'd hoped for. Great looking basic screens to keep out gross contaminants. Wasn't sure about mounting so I thought I'd fill you in if you are looking at them. They come with 4 of those black self-tapping screws like you get with fans. They pass through the mounting holes and are countersunk into it, looks good, but they do not "cut" into the plastic. Obviously designed to pass through the screen and typical case holes and imbed in a fan on the other side. Part of my layout is to use them over unused "open" holes as the passive intakes. They look so good I'm going to mount one inside the case because it will show really neat through my window. I'll check the big box hardware stores tomorrow and I'm sure I can come up with black plastic or nylon nuts that the screws will cut into just fine. Worst case is I can cut some plastic and drill it. Would have waited until tomorrow to tell you the size, but I was too jazzed about 'em tonite. You will like 'em.

Perfect filters
Personally, i find these filters to be flawless. They look great. And function just fine. Some reviews say they block 50% airflow but i think they just have cheap fans because i can still feel my fans sucking plenty if air through. I use the bitfinix spectre pro 120's. These fans are especially perfect for this filter because they come with rubber screw mounts and the filter perfectly installs onto the little balls on the end of the mounts on the outside of my case. I wish i could post a picture it to show. I also ran a few temp tests with these installed. I played dayz epoch for about 2 hours on max settings with them uninstalled and my max cpu temp was 56*c. Then i played for same amount of time with them installed and max cpu temp was 57*c. This is from cpuid hwmonitor. They work fine! Cpu is a fx6350

Good air filter.
I installed one of these filters on the third intake fan on my Antec 300 case. It's kind of a pain to get into and clean - I was hoping that I could mount it on the outside of my case, but the fan filter doesn't fit. This is the case's failing, not the filter's. The filter itself is simple. It's a plastic rim with a hex-pattern plastic guard. The filter mesh itself is fairly effective at preventing dust from getting in, though I've found that it doesn't prevent tiny dust particles from getting in. It does stop visible dust, dust bunnies, hair, what have you, etc, so I'm not worried about my fans getting covered in grime. Also, it came with some nice black screws to replace my stripped out silver ones. In short, I still have to clean out my case, but much less frequently. I'm satisfied with this filter, and would buy it again, provided it remains cheap. Edit: I noticed that the amazon picture kind of makes it look like there's actually a white fabric filter in the grill. Not so, although that would be overkill.

Good fan filter.
Great fan filter. Works well to keep cords from getting into the fan, which is one reason I bought a few of these. Easy installation (although it doesnt come with screws) the ones that come with your fan can easily be used to install both this item and the fan itself. Overall, wish there was a cheaper option but this one is good. Side-note: I was very impressed by this filter and its stability because I used it to stabilize successfully a fan in the front of my case which my stupid case only provided two of the necessary hole required for installation of the fan. So I put this filter on the fan and it increased the stability eliminating the rattling that was coming from the fan before. Very impressed.
