Clarks Men's Clarkdale Base Chukka Boot

After panning the last 2 pairs of Clarkes I bought I have to say I just love these! 10.5 usually fits me spot on but these were roomy and I probably could have gotten away with a 10. Surprised to see these are made in India, I thought all Clarkes shoes were made here and didn't realise they outsourced but the build quality is really good. The style is very minimalist and really wouldn't look out of place in a bazaar in Cairo in 1943. The laces are waxed, the eyelets are rivetted, the leather is supple, comfortable and well stitched, there's a heel cushion too. They're not dark tan, they're very light in appearance, but I don't mind that and with a bit of loving care and some dark brown boot polish these will 'patina' over time very nicely. What most impressed me about these classic styled ankle boots was the construction of the heel and sole. I have faith that these will go the distance and last me a good long while because of it. The sole is stitched leather with a rubber grip-protector stitched on top. The heel looks woodblock to me with a rubber properly cut in and tacked over. I haven't seen shoes with traditionally made soles as good as these since I was a kid! If you look closely you can see where they've been cut and filed by hand at the sides as well. These look good and sturdy enough to attach taps too which I'm considering having done here. The only minor criticism I have with these boots is that the overgenerous toe-box length probably could have done with being shorter and the addition of suede patch heels was a pointless stylisation that I think spoils the otherwise vintage look of them. I shall carefully remove mine with a stanley blade and get a dark tan leather heel reinforcement stitched on instead. Best of all, I bought these on Amazon for nearly half their retail price at Clarkes own store so I consider these real value for money and my best purchase to date. Very happy.

Size is alright and the boots are stylish. However my particular pair looks like a returned one from another customer with some marks.

Bought purely because they were so cheap and I thought that if they lasted a year then that'd be good. I am impressed with the boot though - comfortable and seemingly well-made. I have only work once or twice now but so far so good.

I was looking for a desert boot looking style, but more substantial. While I like these boots, I can't understand why they're described as having a rubber sole. The heel of the sole is made from a block of wood, with a thin rubber sheet on the bottom. This makes the heel very stiff and unforgiving. This took a bit of getting used to as it doesn't give at all when you walk across gravel or loose material.Overall I like the boots, but would consider getting them re-soled. If I'd known about the sole before purchasing them I might have gone for a different boot.

Was expecting full suede. They are not very suedey (if that is a thing).

The leather cracked quickly. Very poor quality...

good construction sole is a little stiff so will take some breaking in.

Very nice shoes. I bought it for my husband, he love it, looks very nice with Jean and very classic and elegant with dress pants. I bought 9.5 his regular Sz. but I had to return it and change it for a smaller Sz.

My grandson wears these to work very G Q
