Perfect for the price - highly recommened - see video review
The media could not be loaded. See my video review for more details and see it run. Like many of you, I found reviews on both sides of the fence. I was really a little nervous getting this because our party was the day after it arrived and "what if it is does not work". Well, this things works great. We did NOT use expensive chocolate. My wife used the regular chocolate chips (24oz) and 3/4 cup of oil. Heated it in the microwave first, then stirred it up and poured it in the fountain base. This is NOT a high dollar piece of equipment. The base is not a solid stainless steel base, but rather a very thin sheeting of some type wrapped around the plastic base. But come on, this thing was only $50. For the money it worked perfectly and it will likely provide good food entertainment at many other gatherings to come. I did not find clean up to be a big deal. Some folks made it seem like near impossible. I simply rinsed the pieces with hot water to get the bulk of the chocolate off and then washed them by hand. The pieces all fit together quickly and nicely as you see in the video.I just can't see how anyone could give this a 1 star. If you get a lemon (and they certainly exist), then get a replacement. Someone mentioned that this product was a little loud. You can certainly hear it run (see video) but it just becomes part of the room noise when you get people in the room. When there are just two people standing there watching it run, you think, "wow, that is a little loud" but in any function where this would be used there will likely be quite a few people and they will be talking. They won't even notice the noise. If you are in doubt, let me help you. Get one, you will be pleased. At least I was!

A party favorite: works well and is so much fun.
I was SO worried about buying one of these after reading the reviews--seems like when they work, they work super well, but when they don't, they're a disaster. Fortunately for us, it was a success! The best advice I have for you is to watch some videos on YouTube. Trust me, those videos helped the best, especially the one about "burping" the fountain, which is where you turn the fountain off every now & then to let the air bubbles out so it doesn't splatter. Also, we followed all of the instructions and completely melted the chocolate in the microwave before placing it in the fountain. We used about 3lbs. of two different brands mixed together. I think as long as you melt the chocolate before placing in the fountain, the brand won't matter. The party we used this for, we ran it for 4 hours straight!!! Honestly, I think it looked nicer the longer it ran. Some pound cake was accidently dropped into the bottom & it never affected the flow--didn't even know it was there until cleaning it up. Never had a problem with clumping, splatter, etc. It ran smooth the whole time. Used it again the next night for two-and-a-half hours. It worked great and the party goers loved it (teens and middle school aged kids). It really made the party extra special. The hardest part is the clean up. Needs soap, hot water, and time. Took between 5-10 minutes to clean. Definitely clean it as soon as you shut it off so the chocolate doesn't harden.Tip--have nuts, pretzels, etc to pour your leftover chocolate on--more fun and future treats! Could even send party goers home with homemade treats.Looking forward to trying it with cheese and using it for many more future parties!

A reasonable product for a reasonable price
We purchased this chocolate fountain for my daughter's birthday party. I took plenty of time to read reviews and take note of other reviewer's advice. As a result, we ended up with a great addition to the party. The Nostalgia chocolate fountain was easy to assemble and level. For the chocolate, we chose to use a combination of Ghirardelli semi-sweet chips (24oz bag), a partial bag of Nestle's semi-sweet chips, and a 4oz bar of 84% cacao. The last two were items we had in the house. I melted the chocolate in a double-boiler, then added about 3/4 - 1 cup of oil to thin it out for the fountain. As recommended by the manufacturer, we pre-heated the fountain for about 5 minutes, then poured in the chocolate. Everything worked exactly as planned. The kids had a blast and there was chocolate everywhere--thank goodness for hardwood floors. After the kids were done, we simply turned off the fountain and let it sit, which it did for about 2 hours before cleaning. Cleanup was easy. We took apart the plastic top section and washed it in hot water and lots of soap. The bottom section was cleaned by pouring out the remaining chocolate and scraping the boal with a silicone spatula. That was then followed by wiping excess chocolate out with some paper towels and using a sponge to clean up the rest. It really was easier than I expected. Overall, we were very happy with the Nostalgia fountain, and have it boxed up and put away for a future event.

Purchased for wedding, huge hit!
We bought this for our small wedding (90 or so people) and ran thinned-down nacho cheese through it. It was SUPER popular with the guests, and it was a fun addition. It ran all night and started to stutter after the cheese thickened, someone had the presence of mind to shut it off and the next day after being cleaned, it worked perfectly again.Yes, there is noise - but no one could hear it over the low music that was playing during dinner and DEFINITELY not during the dancing. The cleaning was actually really easy, just use hot water and pull a cloth through the tube. It's a cheaper model, but it more than paid for itself during the night, and we're thinking we'll be able to get AT LEAST a few more parties out of it.For the price, it does the job, and does it well.
