Mysteria Magica: Fundamental Techniques of High Magick (The Magical Philosophy, 3)

Heavy-Duty. Not a beginner's manual. Brush up on your Greek.
This is Book V (5) in the original series. If you have no experience in ceremonial magick, you will probably be lost. If you have some experience doing GD type workings, you can adapt to this. For some things, names are in Hebrew; for others, Greek; and there's some Latin too. The second half of the book is Enochian magick. The author admonishes the reader to be strict and regimental in their practice, as it should be. This is NOT one of those "It's all about your intent, so burn some sage and say Woo Woo" type books. This is more like an army manual. It gets right down to the business of ritual work complete with gestures.

This book is for practical Magicians, and for people ...
This book is for practical Magicians, and for people who already have some practicing experience, not for complete beginners; if you want to get acquainted with the underlining theory, go with The Sword and the Serpent by same authors. The Aurum Solis correspondences given in Mysteria Magica are different than what you may already know from Golden Dawn and A.C.'s work, though based on the same tradition.

A Disappointment
I think that the author should make it clear from promos that this book involves Enochian Magick, a type of Magic that some people believe to be dangerous. I would not have purchased this book had I been properly informed.

Great fantastic resource and educational manual.
Buy it if you even think of it...If you're on the fence buy it...it can't hurt to just buy it. Before it's out of print.

Practical techniques to go along with Other Volumes
This should not be one's first book on magic(k), as others have stated. I DO think that a motivated novice could begin with the whole set of three books (Foundations of High Magic, The Sword and the Serpent, and this volume). In essence where the other two are theoretical, this adds practice.Part of the problem however, is defining a novice book on the subject. I generally think Francis King's "Techniques of High Magic" is a good primer, but this is at least as good as that book as it is far more comprehensive and the understanding of the authors is impeccable. The one thing that is lacking for a novice here is putting this all together into a curriculum for self-development. This is one area the book could be clearer. At the same time, the approach taken is a good one. This is a classic work (along with the other two mentioned in the first paragraph of this review) and is highly recommended.

All of the history of their order seems to be ...
All of the history of their order seems to be a fabrication. Why orders insist on giving false historical claims troubles the mind.
