Expect to be surprisedâŚ
Review 1Ordered this camera and got it within 24hrs to my door on a Sunday!Initial findings after one hour.As a professional photographer never thought I buy an action camera that wasnât listed as being âtop of the rangeâ. So finding that I needed one as a back-up for an interview recording where water may be involved and not wanting to send more than a ÂŁ100.00, as I may never need it again, I spent far too long researching the best one to get. After reading a number of reviews Iâve made the right choice. Now with this and I believe âaction camerasâ in general, you need to remember a number of points.Stills - Photography begin with light. No light source, no picture. So if youâre using it in bright lighting conditions youâll get great results. That said, it performs well in low light but expect some noise. Next the most important thing on a camera is the lens, and here glass, quality and size matters. These factors will determine the quality of the image. This camera has a glass lens with x3 settings via software ânarrowâ, âmediumâ and âwideâ and itâs really wide! The image quality is better than expected. Of course it can never compare to a 5D MK IV.The 20MP photo size â that can be adjusted to lower res â is quite good and the fact that it also records DNG, giving a (24MP closed) 34.3MP opened, is pretty impressive.Video - This also goes for the video. If youâre playing back on your file on the phone, the quality is great! If youâre playing back on the UHD 27â monitor full screen, it wonât give you the quality expected of 4K. The sensor and lens wonât match high end cameras, so be real. You will be blown away by the stabilisation. You donât need any further kit.Sound â many action cameras donât even offer sound, so I was really impressed the sound quality when using it outside the water proof case. (havenât tried it using the case so far. One thing at a time).Functions â I really canât go into the host of function this camera has, except to say you will not find it wanting and expect to be surprisedâŚWill post a few pics to this review in a fortnight after the shoot.Dislike - come on people, put at least a 16GB SD card in the box with the camera, even if you've got to up the price by a fiver. No fun having to search around on a Sunday for one!Review 2Just used the camera on a paid shoot and am totally blow away by the image quality. Think it rivals even the much more expensive brands and models. Sorry I can't put any of the footage up - clients etc. The accessories kit that comes with this camera is also very useful. It might be useful however to buy an additional kit with a case. I got one from Newer. Will be going on a shoot abroad in couple of weeks and hope to put up some footage from that job. Stay tuned!

Best budget action camera (updated 4k50fps) behind the GoPro
This is a review for the updated Apeman Trawo Action Camera - the 4k50fps one. I bought this camera for ÂŁ65 and by far it is the best budget action camera I have come across. The 4k quality is amazing and does not stutter like other budget action cameras like the Akaso ones. The camera is not perfect and you cannot expect it to be as perfect as the ÂŁ300+ GoPro but for the price it performs amazing. There is minimum stutter when recording on 4k and there are a few artifacts but that is because it does not have the best sensor (but it does have a very good sensor). The menus are informative and you can customise many things or leave them on auto if you prefer. The timelapse feature is very good and lets you film the timelapse in 4k. The slow motion is at 1080p60fps or 720p120fps and is very good and allows you to slow it down further on a computer. The camera feels well built though the lens does get quite dirty so needs to be wiped. It is easily mounted on a Gimbal for action cameras.Pros:Amazing recording qualityPacked full of featuresPriceAccessories that come in the box; there are lotsBattery life is decent and comes with 2 batteriesDecent stabilization (not hypersmooth like) but it is very goodConsThe app is truly atrociousIf you attach it to a gimbal you cannot use the up/down arrowsThe 1080p quality is not the best as the camera is optimised for 4kIf you are charging and you use anything which can transfer data (including a car USB port) then you cannot use the camera to record (only as mass storage device or webcam).I would buy this action camera as it is the best one for the price. Make sure you get the 4k50fps one.

Great little action camera
This is my first experience of an action camera so I didnât want to spend too much. That said, this little beauty has exceeded all my expectations. Iâve am seriously impressed with the quality of my video footage so far, just going with the default setting, which is 4K resolution at 30 frames per second, mostly in bright outdoor conditions. I canât yet report on performance in lower lighting - Iâm a fair weather cyclist and may never use it in lower lighting - but it adjusts quickly enough when going in and out of shade. I have the camera strapped to my helmet and my smartphone connected to the cameraâs wi-fi and mounted on the handlebars of my e-bike, so I can see what the camera sees all the time. Clever stuff! I should say that I have been through a long process of trial and error, involving browsing through several internet pages, to arrive at this arrangement, but it works well. In the box is a shed load of accessories, including two batteries (although, note, no memory card or charger) to allow for setting it up in a vast range of situations. I understand these accessories are now standardised across the actioncam industry. Hooray! The user manual however is typically limited. It labels the functions but gives no advice whatsoever on how to achieve the best results, optimum settings for battery life etc. I even found some serious misprints, like two of the status lights having the functions reversed, which inevitably caused confusion. As I say, there is more information out there, if youâre prepared to look for it (I found some reviews on YouTube informative). Finally a word about the app: someone said itâs terrible. Well, it is not terrible. Maybe it has been improved since that review. It may not have the prettiest of appearances, but it does the job very well. You can start and stop the recording and change the settings on the fly, monitor the battery status and, best of all, you can have a lens-eye view of what youâre filming as you go. If youâre new to actions cams, the importance of the app cannot be overstated. Thereâs no way you can control any camera, especially one this tiny, when, for example, itâs attached to the top of your head; even less so if itâs in its waterproof case. Which reminds me to mention that, in the absence of a smartphone, you do get a simple remote control which at least lets you start and stop recording, or fire the shutter for a still. Hopefully this will be helpful to others coming new to the genre, like me.
