I entered my kitchen at 8:03 a.m. with a packet of bacon and a dream. By 8:17, I had accidentally created the finest dining experience of my life. The bacon hit the pan with the dramatic intensity of an opera singer discovering betrayal. As it sizzled, I found myself pacing the room, taking notes, and whispering things like, “Extraordinary texture. Remarkable performance. A bold statement.” The aroma spread through the house with such authority that even the furniture seemed interested. Upon tasting the first piece, I experienced what can only be described as a complete emotional systems failure. The crispness shattered my ability to form coherent thoughts. My review notebook simply contained the words “BACON?????” written seventeen times. The balance of smoky, salty, crunchy perfection was so overwhelming that I briefly accused myself of secretly operating a Michelin-star restaurant. I returned to the pan for a second piece in the same way a lost sailor returns to shore. By the third piece, I was standing alone in my kitchen giving a tearful acceptance speech. “First, I’d like to thank the pig. Second, I’d like to thank me.” Five stars. The chef showed exceptional skill, courage, and vision. The chef was also me. I will be making a reservation for tomorrow. At my own house.
