Portable with better sound but fiddly to plug and unplug
This does the job I bought it for which is to allow the Echo Dot to be portable and used without being plugged in. This means I can take it into the bathroom or garden. It also improves the sound in normal operation.I don’t need much extra sound volume so have not checked to see how much louder it is but the sound seems better balanced than the Dot alone; mid-range is better and the sound is less boomy. Lots of people go on about wanting extra bass. This might be fine for people who like boomy music, but is less good for speech. I listen to speech a lot on audio books or radio, and I find the Dot alone produces speech that often sounds muffled with too little mid-range and treble. This device makes the sound clearer, more like the full-size Echo.My only grumble so far is that it is fiddly to plug and unplug. It would be easier if the connections were at the back, as the Dot connections are, rather than underneath; that is the only reason I have given four not five stars. If it continues to perform well it is quite likely I shall buy another.

Decent sound quality, all the benefits of Alexa without mains power
We had never had Alexa before, but also wanted a successor tom our bluetooth rechargeable speaker that we used a lot in the garden, on holiday, around the house, feeding music from phone, iPod or iPad. The sound quality isn't as good as our lost £25 JamJar speaker, but it's pretty good. Alexa not tied to the mains is also very convenient, as long it's within wifi reach of course. The only downside is that the usable time after a battery charge seemed to be reducing, but to check, we charged fully and left it running, playing from Alexa and not a plugged-in device, and the charge lasted 6 hours. We've had Alexa and the battery speaker for 6 weeks, and we're very pleased with our new friend Alexa and the music she plays. Although my wife tells me off for saying please every time I ask Alexa to do something.

Use it, like, a lot!
Great speaker. Good to have the dot in the garden in the good weather. Battery life is as advertised. Only reason I dropped a star is that it's a tad bulkier than I expected but other than that i can't fault it. Great gadget.

Amazing
Amazing but don't expect amazing sound defo improvement on the dot but could sound better good bass good mids good high but could be better but for the price it is a steal who ever said sounds worse than the echo dot needs their ears tested because it's a huge improvment. Would recommend as a present or gift for a family member with one of these. The portability is also so useful and a great idea. Easy set up looks nice and clean.

AMAZON , make your own , but better
Nice looking unit , but the plug in point is awkward to get at , which is a pain if you're going portable every day. Another silly thing is , if you already gave music playing when its plugged into power , if you unplug it to move the unit to the bathroom for example, everything goes off & everything ALEXA is offline for about a minute, but it starts itself again , albeit , toy have to request music AGAIN . The unit is just marginally louder , but not as sharp as the echo dot on it's own . More Bassy !. I dare say none of these rechargeable units are perfect . Its about time AMAZON got on the case & made a rechargeable Echo Dot Plus. Obviously its going to be slightly bigger . Maybe it could come in varying sizes depending upon stand alone run time required.

Good purchsase.
I am really happy that I have bought it this product. It arrived promptly and came with the easy instructions on how to connect to the Echo dot. I followed the instructions and in minutes I was able to play around and listen to my favourite Amazon playlists and play with Alexa. It is a great product and I highly recommend.

D7 speaker sound quality
I bought this speaker initially to enhance the sound of my Echo Dot 3rd gen and secondly as an external battery source for portability. I've had it for 24hrs but I'm thinking that it may have to go back, the sound just isn't anywhere near what i expected and is in fact worse than the Echo Dot on it's own especially at low volume (between 1-6) the Dot blows it away for sound which is so surprising as the D7 is about 5 times as high as the Dot itself i can only imagine that most of the room is taken for battery life as it certainly isn't used for speaker quality. Considering it's meant to give 20watts of power from 'built in stereo speakers.3-inch (80mm) low&medium frequency driver & 1.2-inch (30mm) dome tweeter dual passive radiator' and the boast to give 'extra double volume' to the echo dot i can only think that i either have a faulty unit or that the speaker itself just doesn't deliver what it says on the tin. It looks good enough and build quality is good, it's very simple to set up and use but 1 flaw in the operation of it for me is the fact that when the Dot is inside and the top of the speaker is put on you cannot see the activation lights of the Dot around the rim unless you're looking down on it as the rim of the speaker conceals the dot and its activation lights. One thing I can't comment on is the battery life as I haven't used it in this capacity yet. I'll try this speaker for another couple of days but unless something drastically changes im afraid it will be going back, if some miracle occurs and the sound somehow vastly improves I'll update this review to show this as i would be more than happy to keep this if the sound was better than the Dot on it's own but for at the moment there's no point keeping a speaker that diminishes the sound quality it's meant to enhance.

Disappointed
I deliberated quite a while to get something to power my Echo Dot 3 to make it portable and decided this offered the ideal solution especially with the benefit of a larger speaker array. However the pros do not outweigh the cons for me; yes it’s portable, yes it looks good and the dot fits seamlessly, and you only need one charger. But the sound is dire. Reminiscent of a 1960’s transistor radio, lacking both bass frequencies and definition. The equaliser on the dot does not control the D7 output so no way to adjust the output. The volume is noticeably lower, requiring a much higher input on audio, but when you ask Alexa anything she bellows out the answer. A bit of an internal mismatch here. Maybe a rouge one, but I only needed a 15 min tour to decide to return this unit. The Dot 3 sound engineering is hard to beat for the size....I’ll look for a power source only instead.
