A brilliant movie that shows true strength and belief on oneself against all odds
You won't be disappointed with this movie, it's message, the determination of each of the characters who fought till the end against all odds with dignity. A must watch. A fantastic movie, so well made that I have no choice but to leave my first review, feeling so compelled to do so by the brilliance of this movie, the story behind it and all aspects of each and every single character's acting to tell this story of the heroes who lost their lives fighting till the end, defeating the plans of the enemies. Just truly brilliant. There is a hint of humour that is just perfect in the lighter moments of the movie. The action scenes are filmed with so much depth and detail, that Bollywood movies don't usually have, matched with an array of emotions that keeps you glued to the screen. Watch it. I don't want to give away too much.

Great Story
Really worth watching...I watched it twice and kept it on my list for future... you'll need subtitles unless you have the language yourself... A story influenced by Bollywood but superbly done...some good laughs and excellent dance which you may find doesn't go with the story but the Sgt led his men valiantly, the memorials at the end are well deserved for these brave soldiers... maybe an old type special forces group ? ? ? ...their determination and courage against so many is astonishing.Well recommended ...its an interesting portrayal of the life of the Fort and the men.Just stick with the story, its better than most in my opinion ... for what its worth.@@

The best movie I have ever seen
Love the movie it's not a real and trues story. On 12th September 1897, 21 British Indian Army Sepoys (Sikh soldiers) defended the Saragarhi outpost in the hills of the North West Frontier Province, now Pakistan but then part of British India, against 10,000 Afghan tribesmen. Rather than surrender, the soldiers fought to the death for nearly 10 hours with ammunition and bayonets. Although the outpost was lost, the Afghans later admitted to having lost around 180 of their soldiers and many more wounded, demonstrating the expertise of the Sikh soldiers. To honour the selfless commitment and courage of these Sikh warriors they were posthumously awarded the Indian Order of Merit, the highest gallantry award of the time. This is the second year that the Armed Forces have commemorated the Battle of Saragarhi. It’s a significant event for Sikh personnel, and the event this year also offered the opportunity to celebrate present Sikh heroes within the Armed Forces; Regulars, Reservists and Cadets. The bravery, skill and loyalty to duty demonstrated in the battle serve as an example to all military personnel today. There are currently around 180 Sikhs in the British Army performing a range of roles, from infantry soldiers to medics to HR administration, and the integral contribution and success of Sikh personnel in the Armed Forces is undoubtedly due to the values that are shared between Sikhism and the Armed Forces: courage, discipline, respect for others, integrity, loyalty, and commitment.

A fabulous film
I haven't watched many Indian films, but this was a really great way to dip my toe in the water. What a cracker!Very likeable characters, excellently acted and the light throughout the film was amazing, presumably because of the location. The story is incredible coupled with fabulous haunting music and plenty of really great action scenes.

Fantastic
Based on a true events, Kesari tells the story of 21 Sikh soldiers of the British Army bravely defending Fort Saraghari against 10,000 Pathan fighters from Afghanistan in 1897.The movie is not your typical Bollywood piece, concentrating on story while sacrificing musical numbers. For the die hards, there are some musical pieces within the film, but thankfully they are woven into the plot rather then being set pieces. The Sikh soldiers are portrayed as brave, fearless fighters, willing to serve and sacrifice for their beliefs and country. There are, of course, discussions and themes relating to Imperial rule and the implications associated with this, but given the period and that the British Raj is a big part of Indian history, this isn’t surprising. Needless to say, some will agree with the sentiments raised within the film, others will disagree, just depends what side of the coin you land on!Politics aside, the rest of the film is fantastic, the action sequences are impressive and relentless, this really is a brave few against many movie in the same vane as 300, Zulu, The Alamo and the tension as our brave defenders face off against the hordes bearing down on them is impressive. The Sikhs are committed to defending their fort and sacrificing themselves so neither their brothers in arms at two other forts or their country do not fall. Of course, there is heroic monologue and dialogue aplenty, this is especially true of the exchanges between the Sikhs and Pathans, however most of it is in keeping with the patriotic nature of the film. The cast are all decent and Akshay Kumar stands out as Havildar Ishar Singh who gives a powerhouse performance in the role. He plays alongside Paraneeti Chopra who gives a delightful performance as Havildar’s wife Jeevani, their relationship is touching, poignant and deftly handled. The rest of the cast do great work, not all are as well developed as the main cast but do exactly what they need to to convey the story. All in all an excellent tale of heroism, sacrifice and patriotism in an event which is often overlooked by history.
