Barrington Hardwoods Maple Lumber Square Turning Blanks (4pc) (2" x 2" x 8")

All four 'sticks' arrived free of damage and were as described. I succeeded in using these to make my first woven seat entry bench using mortise and tenon joinery.

It's difficult to find hardwood locally in sizes other than than standard 1x. I was glad to find these online. They seem also to be very straight-grained which should make them good for turning on my lathe.

I bought these blanks to make pipes, I also bought mahogany, walnut and Padauk from the same place. Alas a board was required for a Xmas gift so Im using up all the maple and mahogany. All the blanks were perfectly square all the way around along the whole stock. Quality milling. The dimensions on the 4 faces (Width and hight) are not perfect, there is about a 16th of an inch beyond 2 inches on one side, but they are all at least 2 inches as advertised. They are all slightly longer then advertised. One of the maple blanks had visible markings of the milling, but it was on the thicker side so when I cleaned it up with the plane I still got the 2 inches needed. One of the pictures shows an end-grain cutoff sanded to 180 and with mineral oil applied, Im pretty pleased with the grain patterns specially on the mahogany. On the negative side, a picky person would have given them four stars because of the minor details, and also because they took a long time to arrive, and lastly because I thought they were a bit pricey. But overall quite happy. I will keep buying.

Works as described

Some of the pieces had an oily substance soaked into the ends. The cardboard box showed no evidence of it on the box. Not sure what it was but had to cut off those portions so I had to change up my original plan.

Very happy with my purchase.

I liked the grain. I used them for legs on a table I made. I did not turn them. They l Help my piece have a simple look. That is what I wanted to achieve.

One side not milled at all. I order quite a bit of wood from the Barrington Hardwoods Store to make cutting boards and normally would give 5 stars, but this order of Lumber Square Turning Blanks disappoints. Three of the four are not good enough to use on my cutting boards without milling again.
