A great inexpensive train set!
First of all, don't expect this to be a high quality HO scale train set. It simply does not compare. It is constructed of plastic. The detail isn't bad for it's price. I got this at a local drug store for $12.99, as a christmas gift for my five year old.*The engine appears to be an attempt at modeling an FT-A unit with a paint sceme that resembles the Baltimore and Ohio railroad.*It's unfortunate that the trains sounds are that of a steam engine and not that of a diesel engine.*Consideering the price I bought two sets so there would be more cars, more track and a backup train if the other were to ever break.*For the price, you simply canno't go wrong!

Fun Inexpensive Toy Train
Purchased this toy train and received it on Christmas Eve. Worth the price just for the Chinese attempt at English text/information on the package. Before we even opened it, the box had to be passed around for everyone to get a giggle at statements like, "simulating the true styles and making carefully." The set builds a 36" circle of plastic track. I didn't expect the track to snap together, stay together and work...but it did just fine. The loco is an EMD FT-A Diesel painted in Baltimore & Ohio colors, but carrying "Train Specialized" on one side and "Specialized Train" on the other side of the engine. Two AA batteries go into a compartment located on the loco's roofline that is held by one small screw. A red switch on the rear of one side of the engine turns it on. The headlight is illuminated and the front truck has a single-cog wheel that pulls the loco. Ours ran fine pulling itself and the two freight cars included in the set. For it's price, it's a fun novelty. Our cats sat around the circle track and watched in amazement as the train ran on Christmas morning. The cats did get carried away at times and knocked the train over, but nothing broke and it went right back to work with no problems.

Simple, inexpensive, easy to use for 3-5 year olds, and only takes 2 AA batteries!!!
Great for what it is. We got it as a first motorized set for our 3-year old, it was only $12 or so on sale.He has had the wooden Thomas the Tank Engine sets since he was a baby, and this was a next step.We also experimented with my old HO scale electric train set, but it was way too complicated for a 3-year-old (and potentially dangerous, being powered by a wall outlet, so it was adult supervised only). Not only that, but it's a pain for an adult to quickly & casually set up!But this cheapo battery operated set is dead simple, and has survived 2 years of preschool boy play, and he still has fun with it.Since then, relatives have gotten him a couple "G" scale battery-operated train sets. These are trickier to get onto the track (although he figured it out before long) and the large tracks take up lots more room (especially when you combine 2 sets together). But the big advantage this little Int'l Express set has over the "G" scale is the savings in batteries! Those take 2 "AA" batteries for the remote, and 6 "C" batteries for the engine, which run out all too quickly, and they're not cheap. The Int'l Express just needs two "AA" batteries, which last a long time. And we use rechargeable ones (you can find a name brand charger with 2-4 batteries in any department or grocery store), so the cost is nothing.I wish more toy manufacturers would consider cost of batteries when they design these things!!!I even did a little DIY modifications, adding a bigger easy to reach on/off switch on top of the locomotive, and putting the tanker car carriage onto a different HO freight car, and it works great. The only problem we've had has been that the plastic tabs that connect the track pieces together eventually snap off, but that is easily fixed with some tape on the bottom. (My expensive HO trains and slot cars have had just as many issues with track pieces breaking, and not so easy to fix.)We'll probably move on to Lego or more serious hobby trains in a couple of years, but for now I just might buy another set or two for more tracks & cars. It would be cool if we could find straight track sections or other varieties.Anyway, for the money, you can't go wrong.
