The sides are bumpy, but the bottom that would sit on the table is smooth.

Just what the picture shows, a set is: 4 plates, 4 salad plates, 4 bowls 4 coffee cup. Its really a pretty color. The outside has a design. I ordered 2 sets for 8 place settings.
