Does its job well! Good quality
This Nuttery bird feeder works well! It appears to be well made of good quality materials and is easy to refill. The cover loosely fits on top until it is hung. The two metal loops close together over the cover and hang from the hook which is included, taped inside the feeder. When the loops are pulled together and hung from the hook, the cover is secured. When you unhook it , the lid is easily lifted to refill. The openings are wide enough to allow the smaller birds into the cage to feed but prevent the squirrels and doves from quickly devouring the seed. My avian visitors are already accustomed to a cage feeder so they accepted it immediately. Since Jake, my squirrel hunter neighbor, left a few years ago, our yards grew over populated with squirrels. The White-winged Doves (invasive species that is crowding out the native Mourning Doves) and squirrels were rapidly devouring our Black-oiled Sunflower seeds and crowding out the songbirds. Last year I removed all platform, open tray and tower feeders that were not squirrel-proof. It took the songbirds a few weeks to get used to the smaller sized tower Squirrel Buster (made differently than the big one) and a caged tower from Lowe’s. With the Lowe’s tower feeder, the cardinals hang on from outside and grab seeds from the bottom tray. There is no bottom tray on the Nuttery so the cardinals can’t reach the seed. The woodpeckers cling to the cage and stick their long bills in the ports. The finch, titmouse and chickadee enter and feed from the ports. The White-winged Doves have left! Yay! They return occasionally for short unfed visits and leave. The squirrels keep trying but can’t enter or get the top off this feeder. The Mourning Doves eat seeds we scatter on the driveway and our feeder seed last much, much longer. I’m glad I bought it. It works well in combination with the other two squirrel proof feeders. I thought about making a small foil plate to encircle the tube and rest on the bottom for the cardinals to reach in and get seed. I decided against because they can do that with the other tower feeder. This one allows the little ones to eat with less intrusion and stress from the big guys.

They got this one right -Nuttery NT056 Mini Feeder
I really like the design of this bird feeder. It has done an excellent job keeping squirrels away from the seed as the cage is far enough out from the feeding holes to keep squirrels from reaching through. (I have yet to even see a squirrel trying on this feeder) The seed stays dry, especially with the extra large baffle I have hanging over it. It is very solid due to the mostly steel construction. The only thing that is plastic is the center tank, but the lid is steel. This is good, because I have seen squirrels destroy feeders that are poorly constructed and anything plastic that is within reach is generally toast. This one is built like a tank, but due to it's small size it is rather lightweight. Even the hanger is thick, S shaped solid steel (it's not in the picture). The lid above the tank is braced in place by those steel hangers when they are closed so squirrels cannot open it.The only negative is the seed tank has a rather small capacity with this one. I am using mixed seed (including large sunflower) and it works great. The positive with this is seed gets eaten and does not turn rancid. The little Chickadees love using it and watching all the action is very entertaining. Right after I put it out they were all over it and had many places to perch. Later, some black headed Juncos joined the party along with a variety of other birds that like to eat whatever falls to the ground. It has more than proven it is not another cheaply built feeder like so many others that are made out of plastic and within weeks are destroyed.

Squirrel-proof, but not for sparrows
The chickadees and titmice in my yard love this feeder, but the sparrows either don't fit in or don't want to be in. It passed the squirrel test the first day, when both my squirrels both jumped on it and tried to get in or spill it, and they could not, so they have given up. Yay! For the sparrows, I got a feeder that did not have a cage (see the review of the Perky-Pet Copper Panorama Bird Feeder), but now the chickadees and titmice seem to prefer the new one too. I have not seen any at this feeder since I put the new one up. Maybe it is where I hung it. I will keep trying, because the way this holds and dispenses seeds is great - somehow keeps them dry during rain. 4 stars because I'm not sure the little birds would choose this one if they have a choice.

Birds didn't like it - but they do now
I wanted this to be so much better but the birds do not go to this feeder. They go to the other three feeders but not this one. It is sturdy and well made but I have to let this collect dust.Update: It is the next year and finally there are birds coming to this feeder. The goldfinches and sparrows mostly like this and at times flock to it. So I am upgrading this to a 4 star from one.

Great for small birds
It took the birds around a year to finally find this feeder, but now that they have, it gets emptied every day. There are many finches and sparrows that visit the feeder, and often there will be 2-3 inside of the feeder, as well as a few standing on top of it (and perhaps another dozen waiting nearby).I am using normal sized black oil sunflower seeds in this feeder. The feeding ports don't get stuck or blocked, and the seed does not fall out when the feeder moves around. The design is nice, and the finish is good. It comes with a metal S hook as well, which locks the top on when hung from the two silver wires.

Fails to Deliver
We bought this Nuttery shortly after squirrels demolished our plastic model hung from a tree limb. This old feeder had been heavily used by absolute hoards of birds. We had made squirrel resistance a high priority when we selected the Nuttery NT406. Since we have had it up it has definitely resisted the squirrels. BUT. Over a two week time it did NOT attract a single bird! Yes, it is well built. Yes, it resists squirrels. But, NO, it does NOT attract birds for us.We ordered a cheaper Perky-Pet Copper feeder and hung it near the Nuttery. Squirrels still attempt to get at the Nuttery. BUT the Perky-Pet IS attracting the birds back to our site. Okay it is not as well-built, but it does what a bird feeder is supposed to do, which the Nuttery does not.
