Four Stars
The suitcase part needs to be a lot smaller to satisfy airline requirements. Actually, it isn't so much of the airline requirements as the fact that some planes are just smaller than others. It passes as carry-on luggage, but if you get on a plane with severely limited overhead storage, you will likely have to valet it on the jet bridge, which means it will disappear into the bowels of the plane until you land. I've not been on any plane where it would fit under the seat. This is the reason that I gave 4 stars instead of 5. Good idea though.Re the question of the carry-on's handle, it telescopes, so you will get probably 2-1/2 feet of extension with the two clicks.Re the daypack portion, separately, it measures about 14 x 16". It is really the best part of the purchase, and I've used it frequently. It holds a 9 x 13" laptop comfortably. The front zipped-pocket has internal pockets for things like your cell phone and pens. I've used it when I've had the zipped-pocket full of stuff and with my laptop, a book, and lots of papers in the main compartment. Just remember, though, that the daypack isn't cushioned, so your laptop will not have that extra protection that you find in many other bags. Frankly, I'd rather have the lighter and smaller daypack most of the time, so I'm just a little more careful with the bag when the computer is in it.

Great carryon!
I purchased this bag as a replacement for the older model of the same item. High Sierra has never let me down in terms of quality, and this should be no exception. The main reason I purchased this bag was the zipoff daypack, which has an easier opening design than the old model. The 2.0 is much easier to access both the main and secondary daypack compartments.Overall, this looks to have the same durable construction as the older model, and I will update this review if this doesn't turn out to be the case, I'd give it 5 stars except for one detail--there is no side carrying handle as in the previous version. A minor detail, but it made for more options when handling the bag. This is a great carryon (with the daypack removed) and fits easily in overheads. Further, the three different options for attaching the daypack are really handy. You can zip it to the front of the bag, attach it via the strap included, or (my favorite) slide it over the telescoping handle of the main bag. Really nice!I hope to get a lot of use out of the 2.0. I've always liked HS products and expect this bag to last a long time.

Great for world traveling
This is a great carry on. Held up through 10 flights in 18 days. Is able to hold a lot and the zippers work wonderfully. The day pack is a great size as well. One of the best features is the little pocket at the top of the day pack. This pocket is the perfect size for accessing your passport/ boarding pass/ phone. I was responsible for 5 people on the trip and umpteen security checks. This shallow pocket is the sweet spot! No digging while being harassed by security. The retractable handle held up well. Having the option to carry it on my back so I can manage children with my hands was priceless. If I had to say one bad thing about it, it is the thin, flimsy material that makes up the front of the carry-on (between the day pack and main unit). If I was forced to check this bag, I'm not confident it would stand up to rough treatment, but can't say for sure. The blue accented zipper makes this a nice looking bag and makes it stand out if you have to check it. Just to verify, it is too big to carry-on with the day pack attached, this must be removed and considered your extra item/ purse. I tried once entering with it attached and was dinged, however the look on the airline attendant's face was priceless when I zipped it off. She was very impressed. Hoping it will continue to perform in the long term.

Great Convertible Luggage Option
I bought this Carry On for my trip to the UK in a few months. After past travel experiences, I wanted to convert to the carry on only team. I have tried with over the shoulder bags but wasn't completely happy with that. I love this bag set, it is perfect for my needs. I love that it can be a roller or a backpack. The roller will be great for traversing large airports while the backpack straps will make traveling on uneven streets and public transport a breeze! I also love how there is a detachable daypack backpack perfect for day trips from the home base on a vacation. I love the black with the teal accents. My only complaint is the carry on seems a little small compared to other carry on luggage. It will be a little tricky packing for an extended trip carry on only but it will definitely prevent overpacking. The bag isn't too heavy when empty. The construction seems high quality as well. I will update after my trip with final thoughts of the luggage in use.

Great travel companion
This bag is great. I had ordered one for my husband (for a lot less money) but the bag itself is so convenient! No more checking bags for me. It has room for 2 dresses, 2 swimsuits, 2 prs of sandals, underwear for 8 days, 2 prs of shorts and 2 blouses in the main compartment. The idea is put the main compartment in the overhead and keep the daypack under my seat. The 1 less star is there were 6 price increases in the 2 weeks before I bought it. Left a bad taste in my mouth. My husband's was $50 cheaper!

Europe trip
I purchased 2 of these for our trip to Europe. Our trip involved 17 days, 7 different flights (each a different carrier) and 4 countries. We put all of our clothes in the main section and zipped off the front section for all our other things and used it like a backpack. We had no issues with any of the carriers with carrying (thank god they didn't weigh them) these on. The main part fit up in the overhead and the front part fit under the seat with no problem. Construction is perfect. We rolled all of our clothes so we were able to fit a lot in the main section and it was putting a strain on the zipper when we went to close it. No problem with any of the zippers or rollers and believe me they were well used. I would recommend this product for anyone who just wants a carry on or is traveling out of the country and wanting to avoid baggage fees. Just pack smart.

Brilliant two-for-one design
This was a last-minute purchase so I could take just carry-on luggage - no checked-in luggage and waiting for it upon landing. This two-for-one backpack is a wonderful design if you're a minimalist packer. I had enough room for eleven days of clothing for both hot and cool weather while driving around Arizona and New Mexico. I kept the two packs zipped together at the airport, wheeling it around so there was no weight to carry. Just before boarding, I unzipped the little pack. It slipped under the seat, while the bigger pack easily fit into the overhead locker. For the duration of the trip, I carried the small backpack around during the day. The combo is easy to zip and unzip once you figure out how. It's also remarkable sturdy. I was a little concerned because I had read a couple of reviews stating that parts fell apart in older versions, but the manufacturer must have fixed the glitches. Everything remains intact and is ready for more travel. Thumbs up to this luggage!

love the design
Haven't travelled with it yet, but love how it separates into 2 pieces. I plan to use it as a carryon on flights and split the 2 when I get onboard, put the large part in the overhead rack and use the small part for anything I will need during the flight and put it under the seat. when the 2 parts are together it is easy to roll and when putting in overhead rack the handle tucks away neatly. The small part is also roomy enough to include meds and any other carryon essentials in case the airline forces me to check the larger bag at the gate

Ultimate backpack
I love this bag. It's a big pack when you need it and the smaller backpack zips off. It's got everything you need and you can fit a lot into it. It will tip over but that's to be expected. It's just the nature of the way it's shaped and it really can't be helped unless you put in counter weights but that would make it heavier. I can't think of a way to may this better unless it's self-driving and following you!

Perfect for our needs
Used on Carry-on for 1 trip south. Easily meets Carry-on standards. (It’s only about 20 inches tall - dimensions on the High Sierra site are correct, the ones here (and on the tag!) are actually wrong. Held up well so far though the bottom of the day pack is pretty flimsy. I think I’ll reinforce it with duct tape before a longer trip this summer. My teen son found it quite easy to zip the day pack off and on the main pack even when fully packed. Will be ordering another. (I also ordered the High Sierra AT3 which was sturdier, but heavier and a bit bigger - I’m worried about some of the smaller airlines size restrictions for carry-ons)

If you are looking for a multi use flexible bag consider this one!!!!
Used it twice so far for quick trips. Multiple ways to carry and move this bag - AMAZING!!!! Love it. Use it as a Back Pack, wheel it a suitcase, or simply carry it. Love the smaller bag, which is big enough for my Mac Air and assorted tech cords. I was able to breeze through boarding. I did get the normal stewardess saying it doesn't fit, however 20 seconds later when I unzip the smaller bag, she just smiled. It's generally best that you are sitting still when you do the unzipping or zipping of the smaller bag to the bigger bag, although it can be done standing or walking slowly. Another great purchase on Amazon.
