Freud 04-118: 5/16" (Dia.) Double Flute Straight Bit with 1/4" Shank

Freud continues delivering great bits at affordable prices. Nice and sharp out of the box, it created perfect dados for my little storage project.

I bought this to use in my CNC router for projects where I need to hog out some deep voids (e.g., in the back of a clock for the clockworks), and it works very well. There is a gap on the end between the two cutting edges, so you can't plunge straight in with this bit, but a reasonably shallow ramp or spiral works very well. Nice clean cut in walnut (which is all I've used it on thus far).

I bought it for the head size I use for hinges, the only problem the Shank is too long to cut the depth of 3/16 deep--on my router table and palm router also

Broke after 4 linear ft of use. Had to use one from a cheap set that I ordered at the same time as this one. That cheap one cut about 60 linear ft and is still serviceable...

Cut was perfect for my box hinges

I was hesitant given other reviews, but I had no issue cleanly and quickly cutting a long, 7/8" deep slot in red oak, in only 3 passes.

On first use, this router bit worked well initially, but it snapped in two after only three passes on pieces of wood 36" long. Returning it for a replacement, but it takes 3 days for a the new delivery, meanwhile my work and project is stalled.

I’ve exclusively used this on pine softwood, and it snapped after a month and a half. Cuts really, really well... until it snaps.

Very disappointed with this freud bit. I didn't use it for more than 2 minutes and it broke. Was making a groove in a 1/2" piece of plywood. Taking a lite pass for about 24" into the plywood and it broke. I will be purchasing whiteside bits from now on.
