Works as expected
Edit: 11/26/2024, product is still working with no issues. Recently Purchased Pet info: Indoor Kitten: 13 weeks old Rescued: 2 weeks ago (at 11 weeks) Other pets: 2 dogs (1 pit bull and 1 puggle) Diet: Dry Diet/Free to eat whenever: Nature's Variety® Instinct® Original Kitten Food - Natural, Grain Free, Chicken Wet Diet/One can a day: Nulo MedalSeries All Life Stages Wet Cat Food (flavor varies) Note: I used a detailed Reddit post about what to feed my kitten. I used the recommendation of the shelter on how often to feed my kitten. Product age: 1 week Cover type: uncovered Product Review: Overall, the product works great. Have not had to touch the product since in use. Based on the meter, as of this morning, she has used (or has been in) it 41 times since start (kittens tend to go more often than cats). Literally no smell of urine. However, the poop smell can be a lot. Do not stop reading here, we were transitioning our kitten’s diet from the shelter food, to what is listed above and now that she’s settled, the poop smell has gone away (inviting a honest friend over to give us the home smell test). The product advises not to use plugged in until your cat is 6 months old. Reading into it, it seems that all automatic/self-cleaning cat litter boxes have the same advisory because of the cats weight (may not register) or because they will try to play with it while it’s doing is cleaning cycle. Despite the advisory, I’m very much into instant gratification and plugged it in immediately. Fortunately, I work from home and have time to monitor kitty’s behavior. When the machine starts running, she does run to it to watch, but she’s never tried to play with it. Keep in mind, we have had our kitten for 2 weeks now. She used a regular litter box for a week while with us. When I made the switch to this product, I removed the old litter box completely from the household. I did not put any of her used litter in this product. However, I did sprinkle (literally a dash of) fresh litter that was used in her old litter box to mix with the crystals for this product. The original litter that we purchased advertised kitten attraction to get them familiar where to go. I placed this product where her original litter box was. I’m not sure how people know if their cats love their litter box, but I guess if they use it that means they love it? Anyway, she began using it immediately. We have had no accidents. Other review concerns commentary: Poop sticking to the rake: had one experience with it, it was not terrible, and after it cycled a couple times it had fallen off the rake. Also, it was during good transition. Leaking litter tray: have not checked, a little scared to check. However, I would be surprised if it got through the tray and the lid to get to the floor. The disposable tray fits into the lid. Once it’s time dispose, you remove the lid from the tray and place it on top. Odor control: Literally no pee smell. Poop smell during food transition. Honest friend home smell test to come. My friend does not have a cat. Expensive: Yes. Expected, yes. It is not unusual when one buys things like this, they are going to have to fork out some money to maintain it. Someone buys a luxury car, they pay extra for maintenance. Faulting the product over how much it costs and how much the tray replacements is not fair in my opinion. Edit: Passed friend test. Still works great. Tray did not leak. I’ve replaced the tray at about 75 uses. Edit: 10/21/2022 Still love this product. I’ve opted to buy the drop in top to keep the dogs away. Now that my cat is a little older, it is about a month of use before replacing. If people are having issues it is probably because they are not using it as intended or they feed their cats a poor diet.

Absolutely the Best Litter Box!
I've always had cats. I've spent my life scooping stinky litter boxes, trying different kinds of litter; clumping, non-clumping, open-top boxes, closed-top boxes, and using a Litter Genie. Even after scooping the box ,the smell of litter still permeates the room. For the past 6 years I've only had 1 cat and just cleaning the box with 1 cat was stinky and complicated. I recently rescued a cat and couldn't imagine cleaning a 2-cat litter box. So began my online search for an alternative to the traditional litter box. I found this PetSafe automatic box and spent days researching it online. As usual, there are good reviews and bad reviews. I wasn't even completely sure how it worked, but I bought it because it could only be better than what I had. I have to say I love it and have no regrets! The "box" is the disposable cardboard box that holds the crystals (very different and much better than traditional litter). What you're purchasing is actually a plastic lid that sits on top of the disposable cardbox box, but it's so much more than just a lid! I love the raking mechanism and the way it pushes the waste into the reservoir underneath the plastic hood. Traditional litter, both clumping and non-clumping will not work with this because it gums up the rake. The crystals actually dessicate the waste and draw out the moisture, making it a hard clump. If my cat leaves a large amount of waste, the rake will occasionally get hung up during the cleaning cycle. Fixing this is easy, I just put on a rubber glove and pull the hardened waste out of the rake and reset the raking cycle, then it pushes it easily into the reservoir. I can get about 30 uses out of each disposable box and I base this on when I can start smelling urine coming from the reservoir (this is with 2 cats using it). Now about the disposable boxes; yes, they are a little expensive, but I'll pay basically any price to not have to deal with regular litter. After reading reviews about urine leaking from the bottom of the cardboard box, I bought a plastic mat and put it on the floor underneath the reservoir area, it's never been wet and I've never had a problem with urine soaking through the box. When it's time to change out the box, I just put the top back on (following the instructions) and then use packing tape to seal all 4 sides of the box and then slip it into a large garbage bag. One of the things I really like about this method, is that the plastic lid is easy to clean after you remove the used cardboard box. I just take a disposable bleach wipe and wipe down the entire lid and the rakes and then vacuum the area to clean up any stray crystals. This automatic box is much cleaner and more sanitary than traditional boxes and there truly is no odor. It's refreshing to go into the room where the litter box is and not smell litter. I'm actually getting ready to purchase a second automatic box because I found out my rescue cat is pregnant! I wouldn't recommend the automatic box for tiny kittens, but I plan to unplug the boxes, let the cats and kittens use them, and then plug in and rake while I supervise so that no one gets trapped in the rakes or under the hood.

After three years of use, it's worth every penny!
After three years of consistently using this litter box, I would definitely say that I recommend it and it's worth every penny I spent on it. I snagged this on a Black Friday sale for about half off on a whim, and it is one of the best products that I have gotten for my cat. This is a great investment, despite being expensive. If you buy this, I will highly recommend investing in one of the litter bundles after your first month is coming to an end. It saves a few dollars in the long run despite having a hefty price tag off the bat. All that being said, I would actually prefer if I could click on 4.5 because that's what this truly is in my mind. While I recommend this product and love it at home, there are some issues. The litter tracks badly in my experience, but it can be solved with being vigilant about cleaning up or investing in the top entry add-on. I'm not trying to say that you need it, but it definitely has helped me since my cat is kind of a mess. I have also had to carefully extract a piece of litter from my cat's eye once or twice, which in the moment was a little scary. She's completely fine now and it did not cause any issues for her, but I suggest being aware and checking in on your cats just in case. If your cat likes to kick their litter around into big piles, be aware that it can interrupt the sensors when the machine rakes the litter. You just have to get a scooper, level the litter and reset the machine. It's very easy to do, but it can be annoying for your cat if you don't notice the machine not working for a while. It doesn't make a noise or any big indicator that there's something wrong besides a red light, so I recommend still checking up on the machine every once in a while. It hasn't happened to me a lot, but I think it's still something to be mindful of. That's about it for my negatives, everything else is a pretty big win for me. My cat is happy to have a consistently clean litter box, I don't feel guilty for forgetting to clean her litter box, and litter day is super easy for me. If I got a second cat, I would probably just buy another one of these boxes to be honest. That is how much I genuinely enjoy my purchase, and it's one of the smartest purchases I've made for my cat. Any other issues that I've had besides the ones I listed above were honestly user error. Like getting the tray in properly for example, I struggled with it for a month or two before I got the hang of it. It wasn't a huge issue, just annoying because I wasn't doing it right.

4 months use, can properly review now
My cat is a picky man, he’s been used to the same litter & food that we can never stray away from the brands he likes. I hate cleaning the litter box multiple times a day for his liking, he will force me to follow him to the litter box to clean it for it before he uses it. It was exhausting. The reviews I read before purchasing complained about not being able to use regular clumping litter & that it still leaves litter out of the box & needing to sweep it up all the time. That’s honestly life with a cat so if you’re complaining about that, I’d say get those cat litter mats. There’s no solution to that problem. Now, the litter is more expensive but it’s worth it. The compartment that stores that waste isn’t big enough to store clumping litter accumulated over long periods. I started using my regular clumping litter at first without any of the litter that’s for this specific litter box, knowing my cat was not going to touch it if it didn’t smell/feel like the litter he’s used to. I did that for about a month until I was done having to clean out the waste compartment every couple days. It would get so full that the smell would start to escape from it. I didn’t like that, obviously. So my second month I started to mix the clumping litter my cat is used to with the litter that goes with it. I kept adding more & more litter that goes with the machine until I stopped using the clumping litter altogether. My cat got used to it this way & this litter is much easier to work with. It absorbs urine much much better, there is literally no smell at all, & it doesn’t really stick to his poops so you aren’t loosing litter when it gets sifted into the waste compartment. So yes, it’s more expensive but it does last a longer time! The machine is easy to set up. I put a cat litter mat underneath it to catch the litter that falls around it, there is some that needs to be swept up but an easy fix (sweep it up). My cat came around to loving it more than the other litter box with his regular favorite clumping litter. I’ve finally been able to tuck that one away. If cleaning litter box multiple times a day is a chore to you (it was for me), definitely get this! There’s still maintenance; switching it out every couple months, sweeping litter up daily, etc, but you don’t need to sift the litter 🤷🏻♀️ it’s a win for me.

Caution: will make you question your financial choices
I was scrolling through the Amazon app one day, as one does when they need to find something to buy, and came upon this "self cleaning" litter box contraption. I had adopted a 1 year old tabby cat and was going to bring her home the following week. After many years of not having cats, I was anticipating her arrival but not so much the litter box cleanings I once dreaded. Nevertheless, I was excited for her to be as amazed with this thing as I was. In addition to this, I purchased the 3 pack of litter crystals for something in the area of $50-55 bucks. A steep price tag for the lot but if I could get away with a non smelly litter box that I had to only deal with once a month, it seemed oh so worth it. Fast forward to today, Sept. 12th. I've purchased two 3 packs of the litter crystals over these last few months, totalling ehhhh $115ish? Its been 4 months and I've used them all, for 1 cat. The crystal litter bags are quite large! You pour them into a new empty box and it seems like an endless river of perrtty rocks. The first week, awesome. You don't even realize its there. At the beginning of the 2nd week however its very existence becomes far more noticeable. That once bountiful river of blue (or lavender) crystals are now buried under a sea of urine. Sure, the "rake" is doing the light work here, but there is a lot of clean crystal being missed. I saw in a review here somewhere not long ago of a man stating that he had attempted to scoop the box in this state to unearth the clean crystal underneath. I too, have made this mistake. Once you disturb that filthy filthy top layer, you are stirring up/bringing to the surface/gagging on the smell of the crystals that have soaked in the cat urine... and rightly so, it is their job to do so. After 2 weeks, this thing is gross. It's not as easy to clean as it looks. Just like a $25 Walmart special, you are face to face with urine, feces & dirty litter box bits (oh, you know the ones) You are down on the floor vacuuming, you got the lysol spray and wipes out (the contraption itself gets pretty gross) gagging as you pull out the box to cover it with its cardboard lid. I use packing tape to seal in every nook and cranny because I just want it done and OVER WITH! So, 4 months in. I'm pretty deep in this, financially. The cost of the contraption itself, one litter scoop (don't toss that yet!!) & two packs of the 3 pack of litter crystals, which I now would have to make a third purchase today. Soooooooo to date.. $350? 400? If you got it, flaunt it. You do you boo. If not, don't waste your hard earned money. In the meantime, I'll be trying to find free apps to teach my cat to use the toilet.

It Works!
Wow! I have a 14 year old cat carrying 18 lbs, and she's on her 14th day using her new litter box. She stares at the rake when it going back and is curious. But at her age she just lets it do its job and moves on. I am amazed, truly amazed at the job this litter box does. At first I thought the area for her to squat was too small since she is a huge, I mean overweight huge cat. But she is comfortable and no complaints over this magical box. It really works and will help me tremendously when I go out of town for the weekend. My family can feed and give her water daily, but they ALL refused to clean the litter box, so problem solved. Thank you PetSafe!

Doesn’t contain odors
Works as described. I find it way too taxing to change out the box. So I would wait way too long to change it and the urine would leak thru to the bottom. The lid almost never closed on the box. It totally didn’t help with odors. I’ve had this for two years. Maybe more. I had three of them. Litter was costly and the rakes would get so dirty. It will stop working if it gets caught on some poop or something. But mostly when it was super old and the front box thing was full. Problem is is I can’t get my cat to use the litter robot. The one that costs like $800! I really do prefer that one. Everything is just much easier. And I haven’t noticed a smell! But I am nose blind. I will say that I went to my grandparents house and they had the crystal litter box and I could not smell their cat. So do with that as you will. But ultimately I don’t want this one anymore bc it was so taxing to change the box and it still smelled up my house.

I think its worth it.
I love this litter box. I see a lot of mixed reviews, so heres what I think. Ill start with I have 2 cats, 1 is 10 lbs and the other is 13 lbs, and Ive had this box for just over a year now. I bought the plastic reusable tray, which was a big money saver, because the cardboard trays do not last long and I feel they hold smell pretty badly. I still change the litter once a week, but again, bigish cats. The machine does get dirty but what doesnt get dirty from bodily function. The grates get poop stuck to them but I feel that's because the poop was still wet. So if you press the button for the clean cycle before the poop drys, it tends to stick. Just let the machine do its job and I feel you can have a cleaner experience. I fully deep cleaned the machine twice now and both times I feel it came clean easy and it was not that bad/gross. They give tips on how to get you cats used to the machine if they seemed scared of it. The overall smell is better throughout the house. But the box without the top, I can smell their fresh drop for a minute. But its ok I still love my cats. With all that being said, if you dont like this because it takes to much maintenance, then go spend a couple more hundred dollars on a different one and see if its worth the price and actually less maintenance. For the price of this product and what I received, I believe its worth it because it is so much better then a regular scoop it your self litter box.

Overall a good buy
I have 5 cats and used to have 6 litter boxes. I bought two of these and they work great instead. They’re easy to clean and work well. I bought a forever tray instead of using their cardboard ones and use non clumping regular scented litter. This is much more affordable and really practical. As long as I clean it every couple days there’s no smell at all. I just lift the top and scoop out the pile under the litter trap. Takes 2 minutes. My cats love it but needed a week or two to use and adjust. They also didn’t like the crystal litter it came with. They chase the rake and love to watch it work.

No mess...no fuss
I LOVE this litter box. I only wish I had known of its existence sooner!! So easy to put together...so easy to clean. A little pricy on the refills but so worth not having to deal with the cat waste. I would recommend this litter box to ANY cat lover! I can just set it and she is good for a month! No smells or anything. LOVE IT! Just pop the dirty box in a bag...pop a new box under...no mess...no fuss!
