I may have found my portable headphones
For the last couple of years,I've been searching for the perfect portable headphones.I have been looking for sound quality that I get from my home setup but in a portable package.I know I can very good sound with portable amp/DAC's combo, but frankly I didn't really like the extra bulk and components.Although I did try the Audioquest Dragonfly v.1.2 with a Apple lightning to USB adapter.Which sounded pretty good, but uses way too much power from my iphone.I've gone through a number of headphones and IEM's.Including the Philips Fidelio S1 and S2,Sennheiser IE80,RHA MA750i and T10i,JVC HA-FX850,Bose SoundTrue Around-Ear headphones,Beats Solo 2,and the V-Moda Crossfade M-100's.These Philips Fidelio M2L's have the best sound I've found.Build QualityBuild quality is excellent. The M2L's are very similar to the M1's and M2's.Styling is understated, with real leather surrounding the headband.Volume dial is located on the right earpod, along with a multifunction button which can be used to pause,FF,RWD tracks and also answer calls.Protein leather cover the memoryfoam earpads.Which are very comfy. The cord is a little stiff though, but not too bad.Headband adjustment seems a little limited also.I have a average size head(size 7 1/4" hat size)and I have to adjust the headband one click in from it's maximum size.So people with larger heads may find the headband might not have enough adjustability to fit their head.FunctionsVolume can be adjusted from either the phone or using the volume dial on the right earpod. Also the entire right side cover is a multifunction button.Click once to pause current track.Double-click to go to next track,triple-click to go to previous track. You can even answer calls even though there is no inline mic.You just click the multifunction button to answer calls, and use the mic on the phone to speak into, just as if you're talking using the speakerphone.Sound QualitySound quality is excellent. The external DAC and AMP really do make a difference.Clarity is excellent, with no harshness in the highs. The midrange in particular is wonderful.Tonal balance between the high and mids is right on to my ears.Bass is powerful and deep.In fact, the bass was almost too powerful at first. When I first got the headphones the bass was a little overbearing compared to the mids and treble. But as I played them for 100+ hours the highs and mids have really opened up and the bass has tightened up and is more articulate. These headphones do not have a flat frequency response though.Bass is accentuated, which is what I prefer.I would say the bass response is very similar to the RHA T10i IEM"S,except the high's are much better on the Fidelio M2L's.I would say these phones are excellent with modern genres of music like hip hop,R&B,pop,EDM,etc...I'm not sure how they would sound with genres like classical or jazz as I don't really listen to those genres. While they have a strong bass signature,it is not as high as say the V-Moda M-100's,JVC HA-FX850's,or the Sennheiser IE80.Overall I'm very happy with these headphones. And I think my search for the ultimate portable headphones has ended...for now atleast.

Awesome......unless you have a large head
OK , 1st off these sound very nice and have a quality build. Most of you will be thrilled with your purchase . BUT they fit on ears with firm pressure which gets more uncomfortable as they are extended for larger heads In my case I have to extend fully and the pressure is uncomfortable right away. long term listening is impossible for your reference my hat size is 7 3/4 .now the sound. Very well done. Bass is not over emphasized , if you like beats you wont like these. Most audiophiles would like the almost flat response . I say almost as they are slightly bright sounding. this is subjective of course and may be effected by the fit mentioned above.I would still highly recommend these to anyone without a large head fitment.

Very interesting. If you're committed to iOS/Lightning, get these
Oh, my, are these things amazing. The audio processing is gorgeous. The sound production is loud and strong and feels clear across the range. One some tracks (pop) that are produced for lower-quality headset, it's interesting to be able to hear the individual sounds they use to create distortion effects! The fit is a little tight on the head, but actually doesn't feel uncomfortable for long wear (not sure how they did that, and I have kind of a giant head - having broken several Beats headsets). The production quality is very high. Not for active wear - they get pretty sweaty when hiking.

Good but could be better!
These are, in general, great sounding headphones a little bass heavy.Pros:Light and travel friendlyCons:Concerns as others have stated is that if the cable breaks it is not replaceableSlight pressure of pads on ears can potentially cause fatigueA little pricey considering the sound quality (maybe a better DAC/Amp or drivers would help)There is a return charge of around $7 for Prime membersI also have the Philips Fidelio X1's and love those headphones (see those reviews).

Give it a try before fully committing
It sounds great, I love the idea of using the lightning port. To the average person, they won't be able to tell the difference but to audiophiles, this sounds amazing, specially if your music is directly from iTunes or of high quality.Cons: The problem I have with these is that after using for quite sometime, my ears feel tired from wearing them. I can't speak for others as everyones ears can be different. Another thing is the length of the cable itself, I'm only 5'7 and just by standing normally, I can feel the tug inside my pockets as my phone is being pulled. I wish the cable was longer, which I know a lot of people can benefit from. Also this allows you to answer phone calls, which is great but the issue here is, there isn't a microphone which defeats the purpose.Overall, it's great and such but for the amount of money being spent, I would expect more.

OK But Liked Sony MDR-1's Better
I bought these to test out with the Iphone SE lighting cord connection to see how much better the sound might be, and although it was more clear than the headphone jack, I felt the bass with too much and in some songs did not sound good (even with adjusting equalization). I also bought the Sony MDR1's and personally these sound a lot better. At the time the Sony was $50 more, but well worth it so far.

Stopped working and are no longer supported by iOS
I loved these headphones and they worked and sounded great for six months. Now they have stopped working and my iPhone 8 says "Accessory Not Supported. This accessory is not supported by this device". I can only assume this is a result of an iOS update, and I've tried all the suggested solutions with no success.... toggle to airplane mode, power cycle, clean connections and port, update the most current version of iOS.Anyhow, I've contacted Phillips support and await a solution. For now they are worthless. To bad.. I loved the product when it worked.

These are no longer compatible with iPhone--Don't WASTE YOUR MONEY
I purchased these in October and they worked beautifully--I felt like I was hearing my favorite songs for the first time.

excellent build quality
Superb sound, excellent build quality. A revelation compared to other headphones on my iPhone X - maybe the DAC on the new model isn't what it's cracked up to be?

Amazing for the money
Amazing for the money. I am an audiophile and have a $30,000 home system and many many sets of headphones, some high end. These sound great with my iPhone 7+.

I can no longer recommend the Philips Fidelio M2L!
Original Review:It’s true. My journey to higher-end headphones started with the Audio Technica M50x. I liked it but I didn’t love it.
