Kovels' Antiques and Collectibles Price Guide 2014: America's Bestselling Antiques Annual

While I understand that an antique is expensive...most of the listings for things I wanted to look up just weren't in here. I think maybe I needed a more "common person" price guide. Most of this stuff I could never afford! If you're looking for a price guide type book for the more common person...like someone who is trying to reduce their parent's estate when they go into a nursing home or such things as that...garage sale people...this is not the book you want. While some things were helpful...I've found online searches to be more reliable for things we all are finding in the garage and in the attic from the last few generations gone by into the late 1800's. I will keep looking for my favorite book...sorry Kovels...too rich for me! ;)

This is a huge book with a lot of information! Much of which is hard to find if you are specifically looking for special criteria. I have had Kovels before & had hoped a newer edition would be easier to zoom in on special features. It would be impossible to have descriptions/pictures of everything! However, I sometimes think they cater more to the high-end pieces.I am still trying to find an easier way to use this book & then I will use it more! I am not NEW to collecting & selling antiques if you are thinking that might be my problem. I have been collecting for 40+ yrs. & selling for 20+.

I've always said that Kovels know what they are talking about. I get their emails concerning items that people ask about, and they are always interesting. Sometimes I can actually use some of the information within the emails, and sometimes it's just interesting to see what unusual item they are discussing. I will never see all these things in person, but it's neat to be able to see the different (read unusual) things in this world! This book lists a multitude of items and the prices someone is willing to pay for them. Good research book.

The updated version of Kovel's Antiques and Collectibles is chock full of antique categories with pictures and with references. They (The Kovel Experts) also hint on what to watch out for in case there are fake antiques out there. Their reference book is well ordered. pictures and descriptions are relevant to the study of antiques. i liked the book so much i brought an extra one as a gift for Mom Ma. If you ever have a chance subscribe to their newsletter.... it's fun to read.

This book is value for those who have the time to research an item before looking for it. I use it to familiarize with certain items before going to yard sales and estate sales. It is not for quick reference but I highly recommend this for collectors.

The price was great! I couldn't really figure out the best way to utilize the book, but it was full of information.

I had purchased this book so I didn't have to pay for the kovel's extensive search membership online. Sure you can get a few basic prices on their online site but if you want to dig deeper, it costs for a monthly membership. So I figured I'd beat the system and buy their book to meet my needs. Wrong decision. They gave as few samples of an item as they did online. Give you an example. I was looking for the value of the Snow Baby Figurines. There's one for each day of the week. Just as they do on their basic search online, I only got the answers for two or three of them, and not the most expensive for which I was looking for. Glancing through the book for prices for other items that I had, I couldn't even find them and the book is in alphabetical order so it''s not like I didn't know where to look. I returned the book for a refund.

I bought this as a gift for a son-in-law who is starting out as a collector and reseller of a variety of collectables. We all found this book easy to navigate with information about a wide variety of categories of collectables.

I get this book every couple years for my Dad's Birthday present! He loves it and spends many hours looking up possible treasures and their valve…Great guide for the price!!!
