They are pretty but
It's only been a few months ago I replaced the nobs for my bathroom and for the last month i have had to deal with one the glass (looks like crystal) has come apart so now I'm turning the small metal container piece I'm not sure if I can order just one of the nobs anyway very annoying

Not built to last
I bought about five of these about 4 1/2 years ago to replace old sets in my old house. One of them jammed up recently with my son stuck inside the roomand I had to remove it from the door to get it open. I bought another to replace it, and opened up both the old and new mechanisms to determine what went wrong. Turns out there's a small metal tab bent off the body of a slider that pulls open the latch. It had broken off clean at the bend, which you would expect eventually since it regularly pulls against the internal spring. In short, this latch is not at all built to last. But they are indeed cheap. I'm going to keep using them now, but now I'm shopping around for more durable sets to replace them before they freeze up

All that glitters might not be gold...
This hardware is attractive, but there are a couple of features that I do not like. There is a lock and keyhole, but I have not yet found a skeleton key that works with this unit. An Amazon Reviewer suggested using a screwdriver, but that isn't a very good option. It is very difficult to tighten the doorknobs on to the central rod tight enough to stay on. If you make it too tight it is difficult to turn the handle, if too loose, the knob falls off.I will probab;y have to replace the five units that I recently bought from Amazon fairly soon. Also, I feel bad about returning two sets of skeleton keys that probably work fine in better made locks...But as I stated, they do look nice...

It locks. It opens. It closes. It works.
We are temporarily staying in an older home and there are mortise locks on every door but the entrances. The pre-existing mortise locks are ancient and falling apart. After looking for a replacement for a couple weeks that didn't cost a small fortune, I came across this listing on Amazon. I figured why not and ordered it. It came a couple days ahead of it's projected delivery date, so that was initially a big plus. The installation was simple enough, and I got lucky that I didn't have to drill out the door because these fit in the pre-existing holes. I will admit that I'm not a fan of the antique look (looks a bit gaudy), but locking the bathroom door is a priority. So far so good. The mechanism works smoothly and hasn't had an issue yet. The overall build seems sturdy enough. I will update this review after some time passes to comment on the durability of it.UPDATE: It's now mid-July, and all is still good. I have to admit I was a bit concerned on how it would start to look after being exposed to the moisture in the air in the bathroom. It has held up just fine. Still operates smoothly, and haven't had any issues. Definitely pleased with this product. Wish I would have bought a few more considering they have disappeared now.

An excellent replacement for old, interior doors.
Our entrance doors and some bathroom doors were upgraded before we owned our house but none of the bedroom door locks have been replaced so they still use the old skeleton-key hardware. I wanted to add privacy and some additional security so I searched for a good mortise lock to replace the old ones. I eventually found this (after a lot of searching). I received it yesterday, installed it, and it's working great. Not all parts fit perfectly, though that's not a flaw of the lock. More likely there are just several different types of locks that were made with different alignments. In the end I won't have to make any major changes. The plates aligned about a quarter of an inch higher than the old ones so I'll need to repaint one side of the door and finish the other (in very small areas). The strike plates don't match up. At the moment the knob part doesn't latch in - I'll need to remove the old strike plate, remove a small part of the frame, and install the new one (but even without doing this the latch locks in just fine).I was able to use the old crystal knobs instead of the included ones. I had hoped to be able to use the old cover plates but part of the latch is built into one plate and it does not look like it can be adapted to fit the old ones. However, it looks good and works great and I'll be ordering another one for our guest room.Update: I bought a set of wood chisels and corrected the deadbolt and strike place issues in my door. In addition, I've since ordered and installed another lock in a different room.Updated February 9, 2012: I purchased two more of these locks after we moved our bedroom to one that still had the old locks. The sets I purchased a while back still work just as well as when I installed them.

Perfect replacement on a house built in 1925
After reading the reviews I decided to purchase this set to replace two locks on two doors on a house that was built in 1925 which has the original door handles and locks. This set was an exact replacement for one door without having to drill any additional holes or modify the door. For the second door I had to drill the door handle hole out a little more to accommodate and chisel out where you screw the flat part of the mortise set but very minimal. The one negative but doesn't affect the use is that there is no key hole on the opposite side of the lock but there is a skeleton key hole in the cover plate. Very odd. Which reminds me, there isn't a way to unlock the lock from the other side when using on a bathroom if a kid locks themselves in and can't twist the lock back to open it. Just keep that in mind when deciding what you are using it for.

Out with the old in with the new old.
A great replacement. Two notes though. Be careful screwing in the any of the mounting points. Can bend easily if pushed screwed in hard. As for any updates some modifications are needed. I needed to notch out less than an half of a inch for the strike plates. But it looked awesome after installation.
