Good part marred by a couple of "interesting" design choices
Overall, this is a great looking piece, but it isn't without its issues.1. For most people, this won't be an issue, but the EVGA logo only works in cases where the card is horizontal. My build has my mobo horizontal, and the window is on the top of the case, which means that the card is upright and when you look at it the logo and writing is upside down. IT makes perfect sense for most builds, but I kind of wish that they had done a design that looked good in any orientation.2. The thermal tape for the RAM is smack dab in the middle of the E on the logo as well. Thankfully in my build the CPU cooler blocks it, but if you are that particular about looks that you buy a backplate, it would be nice if they didn't partially mess it up by having exposed thermal tape.3. The bag of screws had extra screws of a different threading and the directions did not specify which screws to use. I used the ones that had similar threading to the screws that I pulled off of the board, but it would be nice to know for sure that I made the right call by not having extraneous parts in the bag.Overall, installation was fairly painless. Watch out for the nut that is on the backside of the card on the screw next to the L-bracket. The directions don't mention it at that step, so I had a bit of a shock when I was unscrewing the screw and suddenly heard metal rattling around inside the fan shroud.I'm glad I bought it as I really prefer the look of the metal plate as opposed to the bare PCB and components, but it is not totally without faults.

Does it really provide extra cooling....
I purchased the 100-BP-3973-B9 for 970 SSC (04G-P4-3975-KR) and I honestly don't know if it really makes a difference. It certainly gives the card a different look, and most likely makes the card a lot stiffer. But as for extra cooling for the VRAM chips, I can't say if it really does or not.I gave it five stars for it's looks and that it certainly isn't doing any harm to the card. For how many years have cards not had any kind of cooling for the VRAM chips on the back of graphics cards and they all ran just fine. To me, I think it's more about looks, more than anything else. The back plate comes with little longer screws for installation, and a nut for one of the corners. It only takes about five minutes to remove the existing screws and attach the back plate. You may, or may not, need a pliers to hold the nut while when installing. The only reason I got the back plate was, I had a $20 credit to use. I do like really like the look that it gives the card. You don't see all the solder or chips on the back. Gives it a nice clean, finished look. Perhaps this is just something that EVGA should provide with their cards. But I suppose then they wouldn't be suckering us out of another $20.

Not compatible with blower-style EVGA GTX 970's
This is a review for P/N: 100-BP-0972-B9. I've given the product itself 4 stars for quality but it's pretty expensive for what it is.While the product itself was very nice and machined perfectly, I was told this would fit my EVGA GeForce GTX 970 Superclocked (P/N: 04G-P4-1972-KR) by an EVGA customer service representative. I've informed them of this misinformation because it also shows the blower-style GTX 970's to be compatible with this backplate, which is not the case. They've since taken it off their website. In the pictures I've uploaded with my review, the photo containing two red circles highlight which screw holes on the backplate actually line up with screw holes on the GPU (two out of five). The photo containing blue circles show you where the EVGA backplate is drilled for versus the actual alignment of the screws on the GPU itself. So I just wanted to write this review to inform those that are looking for a backplate for their blower-style EVGA GTX 970's, that the stock GTX 970 backplate (P/N: 100-BP-0972-B9) will not fit.

Elegant looking brushed Aluminum backplate that strengthens card and helps cool VRAM.
Very nice black brushed aluminum. Extremely easy to install but you will want a pair of needle nose pliers along with a Phillips or Frearson head screwdriver due to a single nut that needs to be secured when removing/inserting screws. Installation should take 5 minutes or less. A small bag of screws comes with the backplate and you are supposed to replace the screws you remove with these; a lot of people miss the screw bag when installing. It looks quite elegant and helps strengthen the PCB and prevent sagging of the PCB and GPU. The backplate will slow down the rate the card heats up and keep the VRAM on the backside of the card cooler. Given enough time, like a marathon gaming session, the video card will still heat up to normal operating temps but the VRAM will not exceed temps of the backplate though, without backplate VRAM can hit temps around 90C during marathon gaming. Backplate does greatly increase the time it takes video card to reach normal operating temps.Perfectly functional backplate. Looks nicer in person than my attached image (sorry my side panel keeps catching carpet reflections). Looks very nice and does not effect SLI cooling at all.

Does NOT fit Best Buy exclusive GTC 970 SSC ACX 2.0.
Quality product and would have an easy installation, however it does NOT FIT Best Buy exclusive GTX 970 SSC ACX 2.0 (EVGA part number: 04G-P4-3979-KB). Disappointing as an EVGA support technician told me the Best Buy model was an exact match, but this back plate is an inch longer at least and two of the mounting screws don't exist on the card.I did not dock the back plate review for that as I should have known better than to buy the Best Buy exclusive card, but the video specs were identical and, as I said, I was told by EVGA phone tech support it was physically identical. It was also available immediately and on sale. I didn't really need the extra cooling, but that and the extra support for the card would have been nice. EVGA really should make it standard, even if it means they raise the price a few dollars.

meh. corner sticks up in back egde
it was easy to install and gives a nicer look then the back of card without a plate. but......The back left edge sticks up a bit and defeats the whole purpose of this item. For a strictly cosmetic piece you guys could have at least made sure it sat properly on our cards. Once screwed down the card sits flush in all corners except the one that does not have a screw! not by much but enough to notice when ya look in my case. I suppose i could remove it and bend the actual plate but i don't exactly like the idea of bending a newly purchased backplate because EVGA slacked in initially doing so.It really should have come pre installed with all the cards like other companies do or been been sent free as a perk. ehh whataver Will take the liberty of bending this overpriced metal thin plate and make it fit propper!!!! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Great addition to your 980 Ti
Looks great, and adds some rigidity to your video card. Easy to install (make sure you use the provided screws, as they're slightly longer than the ones you remove, to accommodate the thickness of the backplate of your video card).

Esperaba algo mejor.
Sin duda mejora la apariencia de la tarjeta, pero esperaba algo más denso por casi $400 pesos. En fin, piensenlo dos veces si su PC no tiene una ventana.

Should have been on from the start but a great plate that is easy to install.
Does lower temp slightly, makes the card feel more hefty and look great. Should have been installed on the card from the start like most cards.
