Deep Purple Live at the BBC
These are two superb concerts. The First one, 1970 has two original Mk 2 tracks, and then Wring that Neck and Mandrake Root are just brilliant; and I say this for two reasons, the item is taken from Mono and re-processed for Stereo, and it sound great. Wring that neck is a brilliant piece with Ritchie and Jon playing as only they know how. Mandrake Root speaks for itself, this is brilliant. Live 1972 is brilliant again, with the surprise inclusion of Lucille. The rest of the set speaks for itself. The CD set is a perfect buy for anyone who has LIVE IN JAPAN. The booklet included in this Double disc is essential and I do wish it specified Live at the Beeb, since with the legendary John Peel( John Comments on Ritchie's Catalogue on dic one, dating back to a 1964 item), and Mike Harding it shows what high esteem the band is held in for the Live in Cencert series. My only criticism is that like some Deep Purple Rhino Releases, the quality is not as good as the UK/EU releases, especially with minor things like spelling checks and the packaging; Eagle Records and Rhino should improve its game with such high quality material, even if it is released at a low price here, it seems like all the heavy lifting has been done by the EU/UK record groups. I aim to be a little more careful with purchases since the import versions of the re-releases do not have the problems of Eagle and Rhino, although Rhino does come through on special editions ( at a price though).

is an OK concert...but
This is the same Mk II lineup that did the famous Made In Mapan concert.First off, , the overall sound quality is above average. Keep in mind, DP were considered and measured the "Loudest" band in the world at that period. That has some affect on the recording quality. The disadvantage is the performance quality. The musicianship is weak and Gillan's vocals are reserved. It is obvious he is pacing himself. Those famous high screams, he is noted for, are minimal, and he even craps out on a few. John Lords keys are below par for his usual standards. Ritchie Blackmore sounds as always. Roger Glover's playing is not up to his par. Ian Paice is as strong and precise as always. The lverall album falls short of the Made In Japan album.IF you had never heard the MIJ album....this MIGHT be a decent representation of the Mk II lineup...However.The big advantage is the inclusion of 4 songs not on the MIJ extended CD: Wring that neck, Mandrake root, Maybe I'm a Leo, Never before. These were not available on the MIJ cd.I am a huge Deep Purple fan, I would say this is a must for completists, but not for a dewcomer who wants to sample their live abilities.....For them, I strongly suggest the extended Rhino MIJ 2 CD set, which, by the way, has fantastic remastering.

The Purple!
I got this one because of the 1972 concert. The 1970 concert is on Scandanavian Nights. The difference in the two is the fact that Purple gained a lot of confidence in the two years between. Other than that, due to Richie's iron fist controlling the band, it's hard to tell the 1972 concert from their 'Made In Japan' album. Still, this is Mark II rockin'.

What a great band!
I never owned this on vinyl because even though I was a huge fan,I figured how much live Purple could you listen to.However, when re-evaluating older recordings compared to the sad pathetic dismal state of the current music scene, this is a MASTERPIECE!Recorded back in the day when rock musicians were MUSICIAN'S and could actually play their instruments VERY WELL!Blackmore rules!

Great live 70s rock!
Five stars for 'Wring that Neck' and 'Lazy'. The rest are bonuses. Good sound, especially disc 2. I was very familiar with Deep Purple and was wanting to add a live set to my collection. I read alot of reviews, listened to online samples and decided to buy this over Made In Japan. The setlists have alot of the same music, but this added a couple extras which tilted my purchase in it's favor. I was not disappointed.

Why did I wait this long?
I never owned this album back in the 70's becuase I figured they couldn't top Made in Japan. More recently it's been on my radar, but again it wasn't a priority. I finally pulled the trigger and after a couple of listens this album is really good and I don't know why I didn't buy this sooner. I hightly recommend this album if you're a Deep Purple MK II fan.

This is the 2nd best live DEEP PURPLE album
This is the 2nd best live DEEP PURPLE album, the best ever being MADE IN JAPAN. This was 1st released as an dbl album in 1980 where it got to number 30 in the uk album charts. Then it was released as a dbl cd in 1992. I brought both but now i have the best version of it released by DEEP PURPLE RECORDS which is the official DEEP PURPLE record company. This is a DBL cd remaster. The concerts were recorded in the BBC theatre in 1970 and the paris theatre london in 1972. The 1970 gig was recorded before they released in rock and includes mandrake root and wring that neck which are 2 gr8 geetar and keyboard workouts they no longer do. The 1972 gig was released before machine head. After made in japan its the only DEEP PURPLE live cd you will ever need as all the rest are never as good. This dbl cd cost me about £8 which is good for such a gr8 dbl live cd.

Fantastic! I'm a big Deep Purple fan but had never thought of getting this cd, boy am I sorry now! They were at the top of their game and it shows in the musical interaction that goes on throughout the concert! A truly enjoyable listening experience.
