WHAT'S THE 411 ON THIS PRODUCT?First, let me say that when my Zojurushi rice cooker fell and the latch broke, I was devastated. And because of it being broken, I went on a search for a new unit to buy before sending the Zojirushi unit out for a repair.I searched high and low for what I felt would be one of the best ones out there. I wanted a rice cooker with simple controls as well as being a reliable one.WHAT ELSE?After much exhaustive researching, I began looking here at Amazon.com and began reading the specs and reviews on the Black & Decker RC436 16-cups Rice Cooker.I began liking the features, specs and went on the recommendation of many of the members here who wrote reviews, saying that they like it!!After the unit was delivered yesterday, I decided to give a try today. I made 4 cups of rice (2 cups of rice with 4 cups of water). But because the rice is the Carolina brand, I use slightly less water, because it has a tendency to end up being too gummy, soft and mushy if you use the amount of water that Carolina says to use!FEATURES & CONSTERUCTION;- 16-cups capacity aluminum cooking bowl with non-stick interior- Bowl is removable for easy cleaning.- Tempered glass lid with steam vent. Lid can also be hung on the side of the cooker.- Comes with rice serving paddle and 1-cup measure.- Has predetermined cooking time. I bought this last year. i use this rice cooker weekly. It is true that it will scorch or even burn rice. this is how I get perfect rice each time. Btw, use 2 parts water to 1 part white rice. Their recommended measurements didn't work for me. First forget the warmer button. Once the cooker clicks over from cook mode to warm mode, the rice will scorch or burn the longer it sits in the pot.. Second add oil to the rice. I add a pat of butter. Use whatever oil you prefer. I originally did it for flavor but found it also minimized scorching. Third set a kitchen timer for 20 -25 minutes. The rice will cook perfectly. You'll hear the click as it switches from cook to warm. Fourth, unplug the unit & remove the cook pot from the unit so that the rice can cool down. I'd give it 5 stars if rice didn't scorch in warm mode. However for the price it can't be beat. It's easy to use & it makes great rice.

This cooker is pretty good. It cooks fast, and is very easy to clean (residue does not stubbornly stick to the surface and washes away easily). I have used it for probably six months or longer now without experiencing any serious issues. But, I have to agree with one other reviewer here. It leaks out water badly through the lid and makes a mess on the counter. With that being said, however, I must add that it also depends on much water you use. If you use the right amount of water for the right amount of rice, it does not leak. So, the whole point of leaking is a moot point. But, it still does make the lid very messy after cooking the rice. I don't know why, especially when I have used another Black & Decker earlier and that never made a mess on the lid. At least not like the one this does.So, to sum it up, this may not be an excellent rice cooker. But, it is very good. And compared to many others out there, this one is damn good. I have used Aroma which leaked badly started building up some kind of spongy material on the lid. I had used another one before that, an unbranded one, which just died one day. This was within two-three months of use. It just didn't turn on. With Black & Decker, I have never experienced any such problems. And it is a hell of a lot easier to clean a B&D cooker as opposed the previous ones I have used. So, this cooker is very much worth buying. Giving it less than five stars would be unfair because this has proven better than anything else I have used.

I had ordered a black and decker rice cooker earlier. But it was not cooking properly so I had to get the rice cooker replaced with Amazon. The rice cooker was working fine properly but suddenly what happened i dont know it stopped cooking the rice. The rice cooker is dry and there was no water too. This is the second time i am facing the issue. I dont know if am getting defective pieces or what i am returning the rice cooker. I would never ever buy black and decker rice cooker again

The Rice cooker cooks rice fast. Is a bit messy. The main reason i use a electric rice cooker is that it can be left to work in auto mode. This give me time to do other tasks in kitchen w/o worrying about when to switch off the cooker.However, the major flaw with this model is that the rice starts burning and sticks to the bottom as soon as the cooker goes into 'keep warm' mode. I have to run when i hear the click of switch from Cook to Keep warm mode.

This item worked for a little over a year, and then one day it stopped working. Also it tended to overcook the rice, and it was difficult to hit the sweet spot on it.
