In 1968, The Plastic Cloud recorded, quite simply, one of the greatest psychedelic albums ever made. This is a record with few equals, full of some of the trippiest, Eastern sounding fuzz guitar ever recorded. The album centerpiece, the ten-and-a-half-minute 'You Don't Care,' is an insane piece of social commentary that features brain shredding fuzz guitar as counterpoint to it's extended pounding drum laden instrumental breaks, as it winds it's way to a final freak out. Essential psychedelia! We feel that it's about time this fine record got it's due on disc, so we have gone all out: it is mastered from the original tapes; the 20-page booklet has the original LP text + lyrics for all of the songs (thanks to Don Brewer, the man who wrote them), photos, and a rare press release.

A true treasure to have
The Plastic Cloud was a short lived band formed in Bay Ridges, Ontario, Canada in 1967, that took their inspiration from The Byrds .Although the band was not successfully marketed during the band's incarnation. It has garnered interest for it's innovation in the psychedelic generation. The CD comes with liner notes and it is most recommended that anyone who loves psychedelic music or any kind at that listen to this and you will not be disappointed.

psychepopedelirocky-road JEM
I heard, "Dainty General Rides" from the album, on the great web radio, Technicolor Web Of Sound , and wanted more. It's not just the surface qualities of fuzz guitar and beautiful harmonies and electro-folk acid-pop, see, I'm trying to label it...which is not my style, but if ya like where I'm headed, into relatively unknown jems of original music not trying to be super...just being of the times true and never square..BUT is Super, just because they are ...it feels familiar in a delightful way...yet foreign like where did THEY come from with all that MAGIC, and I never heard of them!? the musicianship is YEAH! the drummer is creative, loose and neat, and bass is right-on, everything is just right here...the songs and arrangements , lyrics , ... and I'm very fussy about my music. I love Arthur Lee and Love because of the non-conformist creativity, and that certain other worldly magic. The Plastic Cloud is not afraid to play it as they like it, not caring about labels or stardom or fitting in.This album is awesome and makes you feel good. A true jem that I, a 60s psychrock collector am happy to have!

If these guys also sounded like Kensington Market
So rarely do I read reviews and feel I must be listening to a different album than all the reviewers. While the Byrds may be an influence, I can't say this reminds me of either Te Notorious Byrd Brothers (ie the hardcore psych era Byrds) or Turn! Turn! turn! (Mind you, I know less about the folk-rock era). Half-hearted comparisons for The Plastic Cloud may be a more fuzz-rock-oriented Three's A Crowd, or a more garage-y cousin of The Paupers (both Canadian/Ontarian bands from the same era). If these guys also sounded like Kensington Market, I might be rating this album higher... but it's neither irritating (to critique a previous reviewer, the only song where the guitarist overdoes it is, ironically, the song with the most unorthodox chord progression, ie. non-two-chord progression), nor can I say that I'm a devotee of this album (the band is convincing for the style, but I can't say the songs are earworms). If one likes the heavier side of, say, early Jefferson Airplane, this may very well be your bag. I enjoy it enough to say, "Hey, good job, guys", but most likely my interest is sustained because they're from my home country, from a period where an impressive number of local groups produced sounds which caught my happy ear.

Best Canadian Psych Album Ever
Arriving on the scene in 1968, Onatario's The Plastic Cloud left only this one classic eponymous album as a recorded legacy. The guitar work is incredible throughout. Don Brewer's compositions leave lots of room for lead guitarist Mike Cadieux's incredible solos and lead lines. Its a crime that this album and this band didn't receive the publicity they deserved. Another incredible album from the 1960s that never had a chance. Pacemaker/Lion Productions deserve kudos for bringing this great psychedelic artifact to the music market. Get a copy while you can as the recording is already unavailable from some suppliers. You don't want to miss out on this one. The greatest Canadian psych album ever. Ever!!! All the songs are good, but the band seems at its height during the longer tunes, such as You Don't Care with a run time of 10 minutes 25 seconds and Civilization Machine clocking in at 8 minutes 55 seconds, which give the band members a chance to stretch out and show off their musical prowess. Lots and lots of fuzz guitar. What a pity, all that remains of The Plastic Cloud are these 8 songs, 44 minutes of sublime psychedelia.

Don't bother with this one
The high ratings you see from the others is extremely irksome because it's a sales effort. This album is in no way, shape, or form that level unless you're an avid garage band fan, and even then it's tiresome. Their vocals are good, but they aren't well rehearsed, the common two-step chord progression is over-used, there are almost no memorable melodies, there's nothing anywhere that's new or different, and worst of all, the lead guitarist evidently thinks he's Eric Clapton because it never stops. It's so 'forward' in the mix so frequently that it's outright aggravating. It's almost like he's not really aware of what the band is trying to do. I find this embarrassing since too many guitarists are guilty of thinking they're better than they actually are. I've been a musician all my life and appreciate how difficult it is to maintain a working band, whether first class or third class, but this one is hopeless.

worthy gem
I paid over the odds for this and had to wait months for what I thought was an affordable price, it was worth it. This is a beautiful lush psychedelic gem which has a worthy place in my collection. Beautiful
