Bulk Buy: Darice DIY Crafts Shadow Box Natural 5 x 7 inch (6-Pack) 9184-76

I love these little shadow boxes. I paint them in various color schemes and fill them with shells or other items. I tack small saw tooth type hangers on the back. I purchased four boxes of these (6 in each box), two frames had broken glass but I just used them without the glass. They make very nice gifts. When we have houseguests I try to send them home with a finished frame filled with items they found on the beach as a home made keep-sake.

These were meant by me to be mounting boxes for family heirloom spoons. They exceeded my expectations at a quarter the cost of other alternatives. I bought three other kinds, trying them out, none of them came out as good as these.A little paint, a fabric backing, and you can hardly tell my clumsy fingers did the work. They are about 7/8ths inch deep. Solid pine wood with what looks like a sen wood backing. Be careful when you open the first one. the glass, not acrylic, falls out if it's upside down. Be aware, the inside of the box itself is 5 x 7, the outside of the frame is 6 1/2 x 8 1/2. Not sure how I'm going to hang the things. All told, I'm very pleased that I found these shadow boxes.My box arrived undamaged, but I can see why some don't. Packing is not up to Amazon cardboard.

These are good little shadow boxes. They are unfinished so you can paint or stain as you like, which to me is great. They have no hanger on back but you can definitely put one on it. With that being said they have NO packaging material what so ever in them. So I have some broken ones. They are stuck in a box that says fragile, then stuck in a box that says nothing other than advertising logos. Nothing to keep them from getting broke. Thus the reason for only 5 stars. A little padding in between each box will do wonders. It was said that all you have to do is replace the glass with a glass from a 5x7 picture frame. Who wants to buy a picture frame just to replace the glass on these. Please add some kind of padding in between these shadow boxes.

The price definitely reflects the quality. I needed several shadow boxes for an art project so this bulk buy fit the bill. You do get what you pay for. Cheap price, cheap quality. The glass is extremely thin and moves around in the frame. 2 of the 6 frames I received had cracked glass. The wood is also thin and weak which made it tricky to add a hanger to the back and I split the wood on them. Once painted and waxed the looked nice, but if you are looking for a quality lasting frame, this isn’t it. They were ok for my project, but I wouldn’t buy again.

I purchased these to make Father's Day gift for the dad and grandfather's in our lives and to make a graduation present. Our plan was to use LEGOs to describe each person. You'll get about 2 LEGOs at most in these frames which was fine by me. The glass in the frame moves around a good bit even after I hot glued the tops, the glass still had some movement. There are no hook and eyes, no leg stands to these frames so you'll be adding your own which was a little upsetting cause these will not stand up alone so you figure they would at least include some hardware for hanging.After our projects wee done they did come out cute, everyone loved. I was able to add a wire to hang at later date to most again just using my hot glue gun. Painting you'll need a few coats as the wood just seemed to eat this right up. But I did get smooth even coats.

Glass a little more fragile than expected but perfect for crafting

I just tried using the frames I bought last month and every single one is flawed. Some had a indent in the glass, others have a large scratch on the glass, others are warped and the glass of coming off of the wooden part.

You get what you pay for, these shadow boxes are very cheaply made. I thought I was saving money but I should have spent a little more and gotten a quality product. I gave 2 stars because I am using them, but I should have paid more attention to the other reviews. The wood is thin and very porous, took 3 coats of paint - $. They don't have any way to hang, which was stated in reviews BUT.... I assumed they would stand alone on a shelf, wrong. The wood is so thin that it would be difficult to attach a hanger without splitting. I have to find easels to display them - again more $$. Not to mention the time it has taken me to paint & to find reasonably priced easels - even more $$$. On a positive note, all arrived in good condition. Next time I will follow the reviews more closely. Buying cheap isn't always the more economical way to go. SAVE YOUR MONEY!!
