We the People: The Story of Our Constitution

Good
This was a good overview of the constitutional convention, why it was necessary, and some of the controversies involved. I deeply appreciated how it covered that politicians have to make compromises to get the constitution approved by the majority of states - a process that still happens today. In particular, the book reveals how some founding fathers had a deep hatred for slavery and found certain compromises with Southern states over slavery to be detestable. Many today are not aware of how much slavery was hated by our country's founding fathers. My only two issues with the book were three sentences seemed to have typos or were poorly worded - I had to re-read them a few times. I also did appreciate that on the last page discussing our rights added to the constitution that it left out the right to bear arms. Without the people being armed there is no intensive for the government to respect their citizens or even follow the constitution. In general I use this book to teach that power corrupts completely - so the power must always be held by the people themselves. Never align yourself with one party, one group, or one news outlet - or you will be manipulated and lied to by those in power. Question everything. Always seek the truth even if its uncomfortable or opposite of what you had hoped. Don't be afraid to vote people out of power because that is how we hold them accountable. Seek equality - where everyone is held to the same standards even the politicians. That is when you know that you are really free.

A wonderful introduction of our Constitution for children of all ages........
WE THE PEOPLE: THE STORY OF OUR CONSTITUTION is a factual and beautifully illustrated book about how and why our Constitution was created, including the compromises that had to be made in order for all the states to accept and ratify it. This is the kind of book that can pique a child's interest in history at an early age. I think many adults will find they have forgotten or were never taught the real history behind our Constitution. This book could take weeks to read completely as discussion and additional research on the side naturally occurs. I recommend this book for children and adults alike. Lynne Cheney did a really good job, in my opinion.

Great for young kids
I think itโs a great introduction to the Constitution for young children. I bought it for my 8 year old that is academically advanced for his age and it wasnโt enough content for him. He only reads non fiction books and when he reads he wants it to go into great depth so he can really learn about whatever topic heโs reading about. So for other parents that have those kind of children. Then I wouldnโt recommend buying it. Otherwise it is a really good book and well written for young children

Good, but wish the Constitution was included
My almost 9-year old says reading about the Constitution & how it was formed was pretty cool. I only gave it four stars because it gives you all this history about how the document came about, but then the Constitution isn't included, so I had to go out to the Internet to read it to my sons. It would be better if this were included. However, this is a good & interesting story. It held my 9-year old's attention, but not my 6-year old's - not surprising as only superheroes do! Also, I believe my 8 (almost 9) year old can read this on his own, no problem.

Not Happy a happy camper
I have not a clue if I would like this book. I ordered it on my kindle and when I open the book the print and pictures are so tiny - no one could possibly read it. I tried to change to a larger print and that did not even help. I feel cheated and that I wasted my money.I am a regular customer of Amazon and this is a first - I would have purchased hard copy had I know that the book is unreadable on my kindle.

This book should be required reading in all levels of education.
Since our history isn't focused on enough in our public schools, this book would do well to inspire further research by children upon reading this. It was wonderful to read and fostered many m questions.

Great little book. I was recorded reading this for our Constitution Week celebration for our county library and local tv for education.
