Wildo Camp-A-Box

Most ultra-light backpacking gear is frighteningly expensive. When you start counting ounces, it often feels like the main place you are lightening up is your wallet.This is a rare exception.You get a really well-designed, ultra-light mess kit that packs down to almost nothing, and the whole thing costs considerably less than what you might pay for even a single, titanium mug. The folding rubbery/plastic cups are the key thing that makes this kit possible. They unfold to double in size and handle even hot food just fine. You get two of them - the big one unfolds to become either a huge mug or a small bowl, and the smaller one unfolds to make a like a coffee/tea cup size. The little cup could be bigger, but it is big enough to still be functional.Then you get a fairly decent, heavy duty plastic spork, a little melamine style cutting board that also doubles as strainer for pasta, a decently sized bowl/plate with a handle, making it easy to use without a table, and a lid that can become a second, larger bowl/plate. Finally you get this thing that looks like a small salt shaker but is actually cleverly divided into three sections. You can put pretty much whatever you want into those segments. The bigger compartment takes up 2/3 of the space, with two, smaller additional compartments as well. So like salt, pepper and sugar could all fit in that single little shaker, or you could put cinnamon or some other spices in there. With two people each carrying one of these kits, you could have a selection of seasonings in the back country that would be the envy of everyone.All of that folds down into a very small package that weighs just a few ounces. Wow.Negatives: There isn't much. The cups don't come with lids/covers or much insulation - just enough to keep you from burning yourself. So that means you'll have to drink your coffee quickly in very cold weather. Just use the smaller cup and plan to refill it frequently if the weather is cold. Getting everything back together is easy, except for when you want to include the spork. It does fit, but it is harder to get back together when you include the spork inside. There is no latch or anything that keeps the kit tightly together, it is just held together by friction. I am probably going to put a single rubber band around it, just to make sure it stays together in my pack.All in all, this thing is pretty sweet. When you add in how little it cost, it is a screaming deal. If you need a back country mess kit, just buy it. You won't regret it.

struggle couple of days before placing order yet now feel it worths the investment.quite a handy box that i can stuff sundry items into it then stacked it in my GO bag.the box with that little drain plate work quite well as my fruit plate during a recent trip

It just seems a little flimsy. The top doesn't hold the bottom, the spork doesn't quite fit and salt & pepper shaker has the same issue. Wildo makes the greatest folding cup/ bowel in the outdoor game. They should work on the kit or stick to the cups.

Excellent product. Have not gone out on a camping trip to test it out, but the material and feel of this product, I know it's going to work just fine for me.

This has everything you need if you're just camping or hiking by yourself. Though the entire container becomes lop sided with the shaker in the container. Everything else worked perfectly.

My son loved this for his summer overnight camp.
