Easy on the eyes and truly wonderful coffee
Would have given 4.5 stars. Easy on the eyes and truly wonderful coffee, but some important weaknesses.Strengths: One of only a small handful of coffee makers that meets the demanding standards of the SCAA. It really does make amazing coffee. Would give it 6 stars for that if I could. And it's beautiful. At the intersection of Technology and Art. I'd give it 6 stars for that as well. True, the Bonavita's are great coffee making machines, but did they have to make them so ugly? They have all the aesthetics of Soviet-era factory equipment.Weaknesses. Maximum volume brewed is 40 oz. That's only makes 6.5 standard (6 oz) cups of coffee. The way they claim it to be an 8 cup coffee maker is by dropping the cup size down to 5 oz. So be warned. Second - amount of coffee it makes when you select a small number of cups to brew various TREMENDOUSLY depending on how much water you put in the reservoir. Asking for 2 cups when the reservoir is filled up to the 3-cup line yields 10 oz of fluid, filling it up to the 8-cup line yields 17 oz. That's a BIG difference. Lastly, the basket for holding grounds is really too small for even their downsized 8 cups. The bloom created during the initial wetting. tends to overflow when "8 cups" are brewed. Using a coarser grind helps prevent this, but KitchenAid really needs to address this issue in R&D. Still, I forgive all these faults because it does make a great cup of coffee. And it's beautiful, to boot.

Great value and coffee, with less daily coffee usage
I'm not one to write these reviews. This might be my 2nd ever written. However, having used this for 2 1/2 months, after reading several of the reviews before purchasing this, my enthusiasm for this purchase seemed needed to counterbalance some of the things I read. We've used expensive and inexpensive machines and liked the idea of something for everyday that duplicated the single cup pour over method we were using when we just wanted a better tasting mug of coffee. The Black & Decker we got at Wal-Mart was still working, but not impressed with it. Some of the reviews about this Kitchen Aid had puzzling comments like "it takes too long" and the "build quality wasn't that good". From our perspective, for the very high level of quality of coffee this produces, I'm not sure those are all that critical to the decision. This is designed to duplicate the "pour over" method my wife and I were using; where, we were using some ceramic smaller cones we purchased from Starbucks that were doing a good job. However, they were designed for a large matching coffee mug. The coffee was very good but a repeat process if you're working on a project and want another cup. So, our intention was to replace that process with a similar level of good tasting coffee. The unit takes about 9 minutes to cycle. Maybe that's too long for some, but not us, knowing good coffee is worth a few minutes. The secret benefit was we ended up using about 40% less coffee to produce better tasting coffee than the Black & Decker drip.Lastly, yes the unit is plastic. It's not a hard metal like a Kitchen Aid mixer we have that is very heavy. However, it is very nice looking on the counter, and much nicer looking than many we've seen...while producing really good coffee for a lot less than the much more expensive machines we've looked at and owned. This is the only thing we found "in between" in cost, while still producing excellent coffee and using less coffee grounds than the cheaper machines.

Sip on really good coffee while complaining about you coffee maker.
I am sipping an amazing cup of coffee while I summarize my list of complaints on this coffee maker.PROS:Great cup of coffee. Hands down this coffee maker is amazing. We buy pre-ground inexpensive coffee (cheaper the better). I'm over 50 and have never had a better cup of coffee from a home coffee maker! I can only attribute the fine taste to how it brews in cycles. It showers the grounds, stops to let it steep, then repeats. My guess is this how it extracts "flavor" from the coffee. My old Bunn system ran water through the grounds as fast as possible. It was very fast, but I now know it only stained the water coffee color.CONS:1. Fill hole is too small.2. Recessed area surrounding the fill hole will ALWAYS get water in it (because the hole is too small). But this area acts like a gutter with no drain, and traps any over spill. Very messy, unsanitary, and an awful design flaw.3. Stainless steel panels wrap each side of the unit... The right side of my unit came (out of the box) with this panel separated from the body and the clips would not hold it back together. But I loved the coffee taste so much, I glued the body back together, rather than deal with returning it.3. The pause-n-serve is simply a bad design idea and should be removed! The 1st cup of coffee out of a brew cycle is way to strong to drink and if you do take the 1st cup, the rest of the pot is too week to drink. The correct way to steal a cup of coffee, is to take it from the MIDDLE of the brew cycle by removing the pot and letting it brew directly into your cup. So, you see, any pause-n-serve coffee maker only destroys the correct mixture of coffee in the pot if used. They also prevent you from stealing a cup the correct way.4. The burner is only on for one hour and cannot be turned on again unless you make more coffee. This is my wife's #1 complaint. I am a pretty handy guy and plan to add a 3-position switch (on, auto, off). So we could have it work as normal, have it on all the time, or turn if off and brew into a thermal carafe (if i can find one that fits).5. The filter clip in the brew basket is another poor design. Try flipping it up after it's filled with wet grounds and it will catapult grounds all over the counter.6. Over-fill or moving it while full and it spills out the back side of the unit. This is very annoying, messy and difficult to clean up after. Since you have to pull the unit out to fill it, you also need to push it back under the cupboard when it's full. This usually results in water spilling over and out (behind) the coffee maker. Also, since this unit has a brew-size selector, you often need to add odd amounts of water. The only way to know when it's really full is when water starts to pour out the back of the unit. It would be SO MUCH better if tank had no hidden over-spill port so you could tell when it's topped off from seeing water at the top of the fill hole. The little fill gauge is very dark and hard to see in certain lighting.

Quite pleased
People have complained about the build materials, honestly it's a coffee maker and not an espresso machine so I can't really say that I'm disappointed, it has the look I've come to expect from higher end Kitchenaid products, and is in fact very easy to use.1. When I remove the pot to pour I don't get coffee drips all over the hot plate.2. When I go to change the grinds I don't find that it's overly difficult to get the filter and grinds in and out of the machine.3. The coffee is consistently excellent.Having said all that, I do have a few small gripes.1. Pouring water into the machine while the sliding cover is 'cool' it also results in a very small area in which to pour and it is very easy to end up with water all over the top of your machine.2. The fact that you cannot buy a carafe separately is rather -- annoying and I pray daily I won't break mine.

Total waste of money and a fraud
This a misleading product and fraud. It is 110 volts and not compatible in India. On top of that it does not heat the coffee properly and when asked to repair it The KitchenAid India office refused saying no parts for 110 volts are available in India. Total waste of money and a fraud.

Great coffee maker
Works great. No issues pouring the coffee. (some reviews state having issues... I don't see how).Easy to clean. Tastes much better than the generic drip unit we had before. Use the auto start feature almost every day.Metal reusable filter fits great. Just remove the plastic tab that holds the paper filters before inserting it.
