[NON-U.S. FORMAT (PAL) Region 2 U.K. Import - This will not play on U.S./Canada DVD players or those from most other countries outside of Europe. You would need a "multi-region" or "region-free" PAL compatible DVD player or computer.] SYNOPSIS: Four spectacular episodes in which the Top Gear boys travel to the four corners of the earth to tackle their toughest challenges to date, featuring extreme cold, extreme rain, extreme dust and some extremely angry locals with guns. Polar Special - The Director's Cut: Clarkson and May, in a seriously modified Toyota, take on Hammond and his dog sled in a 450 mile race to the North Pole as they drive over thin ice to face in-tent hostilities, polar bear fear and desperate food fantasies. U.S. Special: The ultimate American road trip finds the guys driving $1000 wrecks over 700 stifling miles to New Orleans. In a Chevy, a Caddy and a Pick-up, their challenges include preparing a road kill 'feast' and baiting the rednecks of Alabama without getting shot. Top Gear in top form
UK car show Top Gear specialises in an irreverent look at vehicles and stupidity surrounding them. At the time of writing the show has cranked up around twenty seasons and innumerable specials and product tie-ins as well as spawning a slew of franchises around the world in countries such as Germany, the USA and Australia. One of the tie-in style shows they specialise in is to go to some seemingly random country or continent, grab some dodgy second hand vehicles and try to go on some sort of epic adventure with their horribly out of their depth vehicles. This journey sees all three of them wind up in rather disastrous looking cars bought on the cheap and then proceed to attempt to drive them across much of Botswana, crossing rivers, getting along on soft sand roads and somehow trying to coax them over massive salt pans.It is highly entertaining fare. It is fun, pure and simple, and that is the real appeal here. An excellent gift for the Top Gear fan in your vicinity.

Three go abroad
Top Gear at its best - brilliant camaraderie between the three presenters, and beautiful filming from the crew. The Vietnam special in particular is absolutely stunning (there are commentaries from the director, film and sound men in the extras, revealing a behind-the-scenes perspective that is entertaining as well as informative). The Botswana adventure is basically a rather exotic Top Gear challenge - travel across Africa in cars that are not designed for the rugged and harsh terrain (no 4x4s or off-roaders). Clarkson and May are forced to strip their cars until they resemble props from 'Mad Max', but Hammond bonds with his Opel Kadett, nicknamed 'Oliver', and eventually has it shipped home with him! Vietnam is more of a travelogue, focussing on the three guys and their practical but less than glamorous transport - motorcycles (much to Clarkson's chagrin). The scenery is gorgeous, and there are some hilarious moments along the way - Hammond's pink bike (and helmet), Clarkson failing his driving test multiple times ('Jeremy Clarkson - FAIL'), and May wearing a colander for a helmet. This film shows the guys at their best and worst - winding each other up, bickering, sulking, but remaining firm friends throughout. For once, the cars are not the stars.Recommended, even for non-petrolheads.

Order with confidence. Hasn’t been edited/butchered like so many others.
Doesn’t appear to have had the soundtrack on either altered (That I could personally notice anyway). The use of the Transformers theme on the Botswana adventure is a good indication they left it alone. Big relief on this point as so many of these DVD’s have been butchered. The extra few scenes on the Botswana special add that little something, although I can’t figure out why they weren’t in the normal transmission to begin with.

The best that top gear will ever be!
This is top gear at its finest. So funny and entertaining! An absolute joy to watch. I love these specials and would recommend to anybody. I also brought the set for my dad who also loved top gear. Jeremy, Richard and James are absolutely hilarious as always and their antics never fail to make me laugh and these really help to brighten up a rubbish day. Top gear will never be the same again now so I shall treasure these DVDs for years to come. This was the time when top gear was at its absolute best. I would totally recommend buying these.

BACK TO THEIR TRICKS AGAIN..................
I cannot really say too much about it. Two discs to this set and both brimming up to the eyes in laughs. The exploits of Lofty, the Hamster and Captain Slow, in Botswana and Vietnam, where they could not buy any cars in spite of the Millions supplied to them by Auntie Beeb. Unfortunately it was neither Pounds or Dollars.Lofty Clarkson was not amused. The Botswana DVD saw them beset by pitfalls owing to the dramatic landscape and to top it all, they were followed everywhere by a VW beetle.I will not spoil this set for you, but it is an absolute MUST-SEE.BRILLIANT................

The two BEST challenges in box!
These were, to this Top Gear fan's mind at least, THE best overseas challenges. Not only were they hilarious - but you also got to see both the countries in a breathtaking way. Let's face it, even Clarkson was silenced in wonder at the views in Vietnam.....that just says it all. if you love Top Gear and these are your kind of challenges; if you just want to see the countries - this is the dvd set for you.
