Description

Patrick Stewart stars in this 1975 adaptation of the novel by Elizabeth Gaskell. When the family of Margaret Hale (Rosalie Shanks) relocate from a peaceful village in southern England to a northern industrial town called Milton her established views on life are posed a stern challenge. Whether witnessing first-hand the poverty of the town's workers and the bitter struggle between the classes in the grim, smoky town or falling for the charms of the self-made industrialist Mr Thornton (Stewart), Margaret's fate becomes inextricably bound up with her new surroundings.
