Great camera, what a bargain!
I continue to be impressed by Foscam cameras! I have the R2, which I really liked, so I decided to go all out and give this one a try too.I mostly use these cameras inside my house to watch my small pets while I am away. My main concern is actually at night, because they are nocturnal. I am always a little leery of getting cameras because if they don't work well in the dark, they aren't useful to me. This cameras truly does allow me to see every little detail of what my fuzzbutts are doing and who is doing what in their little homes. I can see them very clearly, and I can also hear them and talk to them. Too bad they don't really like it when I do that. Haha. Truly, I like them more than they like me. <3Installation/setup of the camera was pretty smooth, and the app is super easy to use. I can use the app on my phone to watch from anywhere. I can also change the view of the camera in the app, which is very useful (and a feature that was not present in my more expensive camera by another company, which I will not be buying again). I don't often have to change the view because the viewing angle is pretty wide. Even at night, this camera allows me to see all of what I usually want to see without having to move it up, down, side to side, etc. But if I want to, I can turn it!There is also a whole bunch of other settings that I can imagine I will find useful in the future. I can set the camera to move continuously, and of course I can have it alert me to movement in the room (and it stores the alerts so I can check them at a later time!). I can snap a photo (which the app saves for me), I can flip the image, I can change to night mode or day mode or simply have it on auto. I can adjust the image quality/smoothness, and I can have both of my foscam cameras on one app. I can even name them by different rooms of the house for easy reference. All of these features come at no extra charge. I do believe this camera is going to save me a lot of money on house sitters when I'm out of town. :)Overall, I cannot think of anything more I would ever want in a camera like this. I actually wouldn't have been able to think of half of the things that Foscam already included in this camera. Highly recommended!!

jaw dropping clarity for daytime and infrared pictures.
Update post purchase: I've had the camera now for two weeks and it worked fine. However, with no warning, no changes to my settings, the camera, etc. nothing changed, I'm at work and it I cannot connect via my cell data or my work wifi. I came home, reset, rebooted, reloaded, reconfigured, deleted the app, added the app, called tech support, language barriers in trying to reset, reconfigure, reboot, reloaded, etc. and nothing. I'll get an email telling me other means of how to fix this. Well that's not comforting. I see a return to Amazon in my near future.I purchased this for home viewing / security use. I've used this camera for over a week and love it so far for the clarity of the picture and ease of the app. Extremely easy Plug&Play, 5-7 minutes start to finish. The 4.0 Pixel pictures are jaw dropping clear, infrared pictures too. I like the ability to adjust the sensitivity of the noise and motion detection as the notifications were going off constantly at first. When inside my home with the wifi, the connection to live feed is quick and moving the camera lens up/down, side / side, zoom in / out moves almost instantly as you touch the controls on your phone screen. However, when away from the house and using cellular connection there is a bit of lag time, sometimes 2-3 seconds, which can mean a lot depending on how you have the camera angled for the view of the room it's set up in. Not sure if that's due to cell tower, cell service or what. I tried using the sim card and after inserting, it hosed up the feed so I removed it, unplugged to re-calibrate, plug back in, still didn't work. Haven't had time to contact customer service yet to get this to work (I'll follow up on this when I get an answer). The two way audio is great and clear in sound. There is a subscription fee for 7 day storage and 30 day storage but I found the fees much less than other companies of the same type of service. I found the app very easy to use. The attached pictures are of my open kitchen, living, dining area at 11AM, the infrared is of the same area at 11PM. Live feed of both is just as clear. I've already recommended to friends.

Great, Great Camera
I've been using various brands of cheap PTZ cameras for over 10 years, and this one is definitely a home-run by Foscam. I installed it under an overhanging eve outside, and it has already gone through wind, ,and snow without a problem (like all these kind of cameras do). I wouldn't just put them directly out it the elements, tough. Amazing picture quality during the day, and the zoom is the best I've seen (even in other Foscam cameras). Night time viewing is also quite good, and the onboard LED infrared illumination lights adjust to reflected brightness which is something new and a great feature. Also alarm sensitivity is amazing on the "high" setting. My camera triggers on people walking at about 100 yds from the camera during the day, and at about 30 yds at night with the LED lights.Very easy to set up, too. I always do it the old fashioned way (i.e. discover it's ip, then log directly on, and configure it). I haven't use the simple auto-config with a phone. It went smooth as silk, and it was up and running in about 15 minutes ... The only thing I'm not a fan of is the way the alarm area is set. I liked the old checkerboard method better, but truthfully it's a miner issue. ... Get this camera. It truly is a bargain. One important thing to know . ... is that this camera does not support POE without a power injector. Most will get it to be used in a wireless network. So that's probably not important to them. However, for security reasons, I wanted this camera on a wired network. So it now sits on the end of a 100ft cat7 cable, with a power injector and high power, GBit POE switch ... It's working great.

A great camera with some major downsides
A great camera with some major downsides.Pros:-Surprisingly good low light sensitivity even without the use of IR.-Wonderful quality 2K live stream over a local network, great for local monitoring. Just open a network stream in VLC and use this for the URL: rtsp://USERNAME:PASSWORD@IPADDRESS:PORTNUMBER/videoMain-The panning can go around almost 360 degrees, which makes it nice to keep in a window with the option of turning it around to point inside.-The remote iOS app mostly works to view the stream over the internet.Cons-The iOS app is missing the vast majority of the options accessible from the desktop browser plugin version.-The desktop browser plugin only works in Windows, and then only in Chrome (as of this writing) or the older IE. Since browser plugins are becoming deprecated across all browsers this makes it concerning how I'll be able to access all the features of the camera in the future.-I was hoping to use this as a web cam to periodically upload a snapshot every few minutes, but the setting to use a static file name does not work. So I can't save snapshots directly to an ftp server, I have to save it to a local ftp server setup on a computer, have the computer rename the file and then upload. I need it to go to an amazon S3 bucket anyway which the camera doesn't support, and probably never will since they want you to use their subscription cloud service.Overall really good hardware for the money being held back by sloppy and poorly maintained software, kind of expected for most of these IOT devices.

Little To No Visual Noise at Night
I have been a Foscam customer since 2010. I have always been happy with this brand, so I stay with it no matter what else comes out on the market. Contacting customer service has been challenging at times but has gotten much better over the years. I started with 2 of their F18910w cameras and later added 2 of the R2 models. This purchase of the R4 is replacing one of the R2 cameras. Nothing wrong with it, I just wanted to upgrade the camera facing outside of the front window. Because I have the camera situated close to the glass, I can not use the LED lights as it creates a blinding reflection. No matter how I changed the settings, the R2 produced a lot of visual noise at night. I thought I would take a chance and upgrade the camera to the R4.I was amazed at the clarity of the R4. Brilliant during the day and very little noise at night. Easy installation and port forwarding with Comcast Xfi app. Comes with all the same great features of the R2. I like the white because it blends in well with the blinds. I use the OWLR app to view my camera's when away from home. Extremely happy with this purchase. Some of the features I like about the R2 and R4:-Sleek design-Motion detection (Option to select up to 3 areas of the viewing screen if you want the alarm tripped on a specific area such as the door or where your car is parked.)-3 different recording modes (scheduled, motion and local - records to a computer)-Privacy Zone ( You can block a part of the screen to prevent unnecessary recording such as a fan that is always in motion.)-Two-way audio/mic-Easy playback-and several other featuresUPDATE: 8/8/18: I could not log into the camera. It told me the username or password was incorrect. I hadn't made any changes. I reset the camera so that I could reset the password. Now, the camera will not connect hardwired to my network. It does not show as connected either through the "Search Tool" or by looking on my network device list. Sending an email to [email protected]. Will update results. Note: I bought this on May 8 and it's now Aug 8. So it's only been in use for 3 months. Not happy.
