We have very hard water where we live. Does this charcoal stick help filter limescale from tap water for making tea etc.

Yes it does. I live in a hard water area too and the charcoal makes a significant difference. I have a glass kettle and it's very easy to see the difference between boiling water straigh from the tap and after it's been charcoal filtered.

Is it safe for filter water for pets?

yes it is. I use it to filter water for my dogs and cats.

Can this be used in a stainless steel (Yeti) water bottle for on the go ..

Needs minimum 4 hours to work, but if you fill the night before then yes

I have an 8L kilner jar. How many would I have to use in this, or is the volume of water irrelevant?

I’d use the special container for the charcoal as it fits in nicely
