safe, fun, and cute toy
I bought this toy when my son was around 5 months old and he still likes it. Now he is 8 months old and he's not old enough to understand to put the blocks in the corresponding holes, but loves sounds and textures. These toys are nice and soft, with big pieces, and each one has its own color, texture and sound. The sides of the box also have a color that corresponds with the shape. The fabric is really colorful and eye-catching, good quality and durable.Nice toy for young baby

Great beginner soft sorter - start with this one and upgrade to plastic later
I actually bought two of these. The story is as goes - when my oldest nephew was eight or nine months old, we got him this toy and he loved it to bits. When he grew older, however, (he is four now), he thought it would be a good idea to let the doggies play with it, with rather predictable results. So, when my second nephew got old enough to be interested in such toys (he just turned one), we bought a replacement. He loves it, and the dogs are waiting on the sidelines for their chance to have a go at it :PKids learn shapes, colors, and you can keep them busy for literally minutes at a time! Different textures and sounds add to keeping kids interested. The fact that the pieces are soft is a plus as well - no collateral damage when the bits start flying around. While this is not dog-proof, and older kids can force the pieces through most any hole, Lamaze Multi Sensory Soft Sorter is a great beginner sorter nonetheless.

Another Great Lamaze Product
I remember reading a Victor Hugo novel when I was young and finding it so boring that I put it back on the shelf unfinished. There were too many characters, and I didn't understand why what any of them did mattered. Years later, I came back to the same book and loved it. I couldn't read the pages fast enough and when I finished I wanted to read it all over again! In a way, a lot of six to nine-month olds might feel the same way when handed this multi-sensory soft sorter. Not yet at the stage where putting things into something and taking them out is its own form of ecstasy, they might look at this box of fun and think: "So what?" If so, don't knock this sorter just yet; simply hide the toy away for a few months and reintroduce it later. The sorter has many features which make it a great one--for a kid at the right stage. The box has bright colors. Each shape has different sounds for your child's ears and different textures for his hands. It's completely safe. And the game of sorting itself is both challenging and fun! I'm rating this a five. For the price, it's proven a great value.

Lots of entertainment
We gave this to our son at 5 months, and he still uses at 18 months. The shapes have different noises/textures, so it keeps them interested. There are variable levels of interaction - when he was little, he just wanted to shake the shapes to hear the noise. Now that he's older, he likes filling it up and dumping them out. It's a great toy that will provide your child variable interaction as they grow.

Cute
Got this as a soft set of "blocks" for our baby to play with. Perhaps a 9 month old is still too young to get the most out of it. however, the purple and white blocks rattle to baby's liking and that is what it is all about :)

Good toy
For right now, the balls are more fun than the educational properties (1 year olds). Especially the red ball (I'm not sure why, but that's the one they both crawl towards every time). The yellow one is more like a dog toy... squeaker.... which is very hard for the little to make squeak (if at all). The red ball rattles. The glue square rattles and the green triangle crinkles.

Lamaze makes the best baby toys
Lamaze makes the best toys for babies hands down. I like that their toys are soft so when children accidentally hit themselves in the face or someone else due to their lack of coordination that no one gets hurt. After mom testing these with my children, I have now bought them for several other friends who were expecting and they have told me that they now love Lamaze toys too.
