Does this jacket have functional pockets?

Yes it does. Many jackets come with the pockets sewn shut like this one. You just rip out the seam if you want to use the pockets.

i am 5'6, 34 d and about 135 lbs. should i get small or medium?

I would not recommend getting the small. I'm about 5 feet tall and only weigh about 90 pounds, and it was too small for me. I did order the medium which fit much better across the back, but the sleeves were too wide, so it didn't look right on me.

I would go by your bust size and have a little extra room for wearing a blouse or sleeveless top underneath.
