The New Jedi Order series picks up
Conquest by Greg Keyes is the first book in the Edge of Victory duology and the seventh book in the New Jedi Order series. I found it to be particularly refreshing because we didn’t have to deal so much with philosophical questions among the Jedi regarding the appropriate use of the force. Rather we focused on Anakin and his friend Tahiri and some real action. Things were happening. The Yuuzhan Vong so far have been unstoppable. Now they have demanded the capture of all the Jedi and have offered to stop all hostile actions if the Jedi are turned over to them. They particularly want Jacen Solo. The Peace Brigade will do anything the Yuuzhan Vong want, and they are searching for Jedi. The students at Luke’s Jedi Academy on Yavin 4 are in significant danger because the Peace Brigade ships are already in the Yavin system and a Yuuzhan Vong fleet is following along close behind. The leadership of the New Republic is refusing to take any official action to rescue the students on Yavin 4 so Anakin acts on his own initiative to fly to the Academy and see what can be done. He is particularly worried about the safety of his best friend, a 14-year-old girl named Tahiri. The two of them were often a team working together when Anakin was attending the Academy. Anakin arrives in the nick of time and does what he can. Most of the students are recued, but Tahiri is captured and Anakin remains on Yavin in a perilous situation. At this point the story takes a dramatic turn when Anakin receives help from a rogue Yuuzhan Vong. Vua Rapuung is a warrior who offers to help Anakin for his own purposes of seeking revenge for serious wrong done to him by another Yuuzhan Vong. The two of them work their way back across Yavin, infiltrate the alien compound, and do what they came to do. Tahiri especially needs help because the Yuuzhan Vong are using extreme measures to turn her into one of them.Conquest is a fun book to read, and Anakin and Tahiri are excellent characters. Maybe the New Jedi Order series will remain that way. One can hope. This book was definitely a highlight of the series so far.

Insight into Vong
Great addition to the Vong War that gives personal insight into the Vong through an unlikely ally and adds characterization to returning characters.

Pretty good insight view of the Yuuzhan Vong
In this book the Vong have come up with an efficient way of capturing the Jedi, a way that also helps introducing more dissent among the already divided New Republic, and that's when Anakin Solo appears and tries to rescue the Jedi Students from this new cruel and evil opponent. The best feature of this novel is that it introduces and develops a vivid description of the Yuuzhan Vong society, their beliefs, motivation and even technology. Most authors in past New Jedi Order books just give you a brief glimpse of this new enemy, not a deep description. Keyes tells the quest of young Anakin and in the way makes a great development of this enemy, going beyond the rage and technology we have seen in previous books of this series and going deep in their belief system, social structure and motivation, and finaly gives us a hint of something we have never ever seen: there could really be some dissention among the Vong. The reason I did not rated this novel with five stars was because you get the feel that the timeline extends for quite a while (the events in the book develop in more less a month, and believe me, it's A LOT), and also because there are a lot of situations and characters borrowed from the Young Jedi Knight Series (a series that, by the way, is the lousiest writting ever done around the SW Universe, even for kids), as well as a poor depiction of characters we have come to love like Mara and Talon Karrde (well, this guy definitely isn't Zahn). There are no appearances by Han or Leia, but it really doesn't matter, since the story does pretty well without them. But besides this flaws, the book is entertaining, and even if the plot is slow at some times, you will be more than satisfied with the depiction of Vong society.

Short Review for a Short Book
EDGE OF VICTORY: CONQUEST is a great addition to the New Jedi Order series. The book mainly follows Anakin Solo (son of Han and Leia Solo) as he tries to protect and save a few Jedi Knights in training on Yavin 4 from the Yuuzhan Vong. While this is a shorter entry into the series thus far, it reveals more about the culture and mind of the Yuuzhan Vong than any of the books before it through Anakin's pseudo side-kick Vua Rapuung--a Yuuzhan Vong outcast that is on a quest for revenge--and through the "villain" Nen Yim as she struggles to maintain an appearance of devout loyalty to Yuuzhan Vong doctrine while secretly conducting blasphemous experiments that she thinks will further their cause. The main reason that this book is such an amazing part of the series is because it is an incredible "coming of age" story for Anakin Solo. His character is developed more in this book than all the other EU books combined. Reading it will provide insight into his mind and actions in the books and stories that follow.Greg Keyes knows Star Wars. His vocabulary and word choice are perfect. All our favorite characters have perfect representations except for very few occasions when the dialogue may seem a bit off.If you have felt worried or doubted the direction this series has gone up until this book, this one will sway you and make you excited for what comes next. Read it!

New author, great writing.
After reading Vector Prime, I was excited to delve into this long series, but as I read the books by Stackpole, Luceno, and Tyers, I was completely disappointed. Instead of substantially advancing the plot, these books meandered aimlessly and I pretty much ended up skipping over them.So here comes a new author with a new duology, and he does not disappoint. This book was so gripping I finished it in a single sitting over a couple of hours. Restricting the novel mostly to Anakin, the story is focused and terse. We learn a lot more about the Vong and even come to sympathize with one of them. This is a great entry into the series and I'm looking forward to reading the next one.

Is one of the latest star wars saga. A new specie attack the known galaxy and every hero has to give everything. The writting is good (not amazing) but the story is very interesting. I liked it.

Edge of Victory I
This book pulls you right into the story. The bond you feel with Anakin is strengthened. This book also helps one understand more about the Vong. I actually had trouble putting it down. One chapter after another. A great read for any Star Wars fanatic!

One of the best of the new jedi order series
This has Anakin Solo as the lead character and is about an Yuuzhan Vong attack on Yavin four and their continued efforts to desriy the jedi, but this time they have a different strategy. The book also offers new insigth into Vong culture and psychologi!

New Jedi Order. Edge of Victory
Excellent continuation of the story. A little slow to begin with but the growing character of both Anakin and Tahiri was well handled. A good read.
